THE COMPARISON OF GROWTH AND PRODUCTION OF SOME TYPES OF RICE IS

PLANTED IN WET LAND AND DRY LAND

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Time and place

Research will be held in the district of West Java province in September 2017 until December
2017.

Materials and tools

The plant material will be used is Gogos Rice Seed consisting of Mayas Varieties, Inpago 10
varieties, IPB 86 varieties, Mentik Wangi varieties, Inpari 13 varieties, IPB 3S varieties, and Ampibi
Jatiluhur varieties. Fertilizers that used include urea and NPK fertilizer by a dose in accordance with local
recommendations. The tools that used are ruler, meter, digital camera, an analytical weigher, Plant
Canopy Analyzer (Li-Cor Lai-2200) and Oven

Research design

Research using nested pattern design consisting of the main factors (A) and the free factor
(B). The main factor consists of two levels are wetland and dryland. In the main factors, there are the free
factor (B) consisting of 7 varietatas are Mentik Wangi varieties, Inpari 13 varieties and IPB 3S varieties,
and Ampibi Jatiluhur varieties. The experiment was repeated 3 times for a total of 56 experimental
plots. The mathematical models:
Yijk = + Ai + Bj (i) + ijk
i = 1, 2, 3, ............, j = 1,2,3 ........... a, b and k = 1.2.3, ....... u
here:
Yijk : Observation Factor A level of the i-th level of factor B to - j and replicates to -k
: Mean General
Ai : The Influence of Factor A on the level of the -i
Bj (i) : The influence factor B on level j to Ai
ijk : The Influence Factor A level to I, factor B to -j and replicates to -k

Implementation of the Research

Stages of implementation consists of two, namely the implementation of the wetland and dry land, the
implementation of the following activities:

1. On Wet Land

Land preparation will be done by twice soil processing in order to obtain good soil
puddling. The size of each experimental unit is 5 m x 5 m. To separate between plots, its made
dike with a width of 25 cm, while between replications were made dike with a width of 50
cm. Total unit trial at 56 units for a total area of land used 1520 m2. Seedlings will be
transplanted after the age of 15 days after planting. spacing used is 20 cm x 20 cm. Seedlings
planted on one seed each hole. To optimize the growth of crops cultivated in accordance with
local fertilizer recommendation. Watering is done in accordance with local farmers irrigation
practices. Control pests and diseases is done optimally, while weeding is done by using dibble
and manual way.

2. On Dry Land.

Land preparation is done with the cleaning of weeds, crop residues, and without tillage. The size
of the unit and number of units of the same experiment in wet land. Planting is done by ditugal
with a spacing of 20 cm x 20 cm. Watering is conditioned by the availability of rainfall conditions
or by looking at planting conditions. Provision of fertilizer tailored to the dosage
recommendations on the research area. Weeding is done by manual and pest and disease control

Observation

1. Plant height, measured from the ground to the tip of the highest panicle hedge against the 5
samples. Plant height measurements carried out before harvest.
2. The number of vegetative tillers time, calculated from the number of tillers at the time the plant
was 50-60 days after planting.
3. The number of productive tillers, calculated based on the number of tillers that produces panicles
of each clump. Counting the number of productive tillers do before harvest.
4. Panicle length, measured from the base of the panicle (panicle neck) until the end of the tassel.
5. Age flowering, observed from planting to flowering plants 50% in each experimental plot.
6. Age of harvest, calculated from the start cropping up yellow rice (cooked) has reached 80% in
each experimental plot.
7. The number of total grains per panicle, is calculated from the number of grains in each panicle of
5 main panicle. Total number of grains per panicle comes out of the total grain or grain fill a
vacuum in each panicle.
8. The number of grains per panicle and grain pithy hollow per panicle, is calculated from the
number of grain-filled and empty of 5 main panicle.
9. Percentage of filled grain, calculated using the formula:
Percent filled grain = Amoint filled grain x100%
Amount Filled grain total
Gabah
10. The results of dry grain per total
plot, carried out on all panicles crop in one swath minus 2 rows
around (as the plant sample and border). Total harvested clumps counted and weighed dry grain
harvest (GKP). The water content is calculated based on the average value of 3 times the
measurement of moisture content of grain crops (GKP). After the grain is dried until it reaches
the water content of approximately 14% and cleaned then weighed milled rice (GKG) each plot
11. Weight of 1000 grains (g) weighed 1000 grains of each plot pithy with moisture content of 14%.
12. Closing of the canopy and leaf area index were observed by means of Plant Canopy Analyzer (Li-
Cor LAI-2200), conducted every week. Tools Li-Cor LAI-2200 automatically shows the leaf area
index calculations when the tool is directed to the top of the plant canopy (approximately 10 cm
above the header) and under the plant canopy (four points around the plant canopy closure).
13. Dry weight of roots and canopy (stems and leaves) were observed when transplanting, 20 Days
After Planting (HST), 49 days after planting and harvest time (dried in an oven at 80 C for 48
hours) (Lakitan 2011). At the age of 20 HST is a growth phase at the start of the active form of
rice tillers, while the HST 49 is the last phase of growth tillers and panicles of rice started to
form.
