Description[edit]
It has a 35,000-seat amphitheater.[1] In addition, the site is also the new home for
the 45-acre (180,000 m2) Nayong Pilipino complex, an open-air museum featuring
miniature attractions of the Philippines and its culture.[2]
In early 2010, the site was relaunched as Clark Education City by the Australian
International Training and Management group (AITMG). Initial construction of the
campus costAU$6-million, with a capacity of 15,000 students. The institution delivers
a range of vocational courses accredited by the Australian Government, English
language, and customised training. The facility now operates as Site Skills Training
- [1].
Budget[edit]
The construction of Expo Filipino entailed a total budget of 3.5 billion (US$ 63.64
million). Then-President Fidel V. Ramos directed three state-run financial institutions
Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS),
and Land Bank of the Philippinesto lend a total of 1.4-billion (US$25.45-million) to
the joint venture.
Issues[edit]
The project was criticised for the excessive amounts of money that went to its
construction. Particular targets of criticism were: a "Freedom Ring" (>1.2-billion); a
parking lot (111-million); an entry zone (118-million); display villages (290-
million); and an artificial river (76-million) that had bridges spanning it (total 32-
million).[3]
Expo Filipino closed down in 1999 under President Joseph Estrada, after sustaining
heavy losses.
Reopening[edit]
After having been mothballed for more than five years, the site reopened as Clark
Expo on December 8, 2005, to host trade exhibits and cultural presentations headed
by the Clark Development Corporation (CDC). The park's reopening featured
concerts, world-class furniture exhibits, carnival rides, and major concerts.
CDC president Antonio Ng said the opening of the Expo Pilipino was realised due to
the directive and full support of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in
boosting tourism and investment activities inside the Clark Special Economic Zone,
with her Administrative Order (AO) No. 63 issued on February 17, 2003, directing the
transfer of certain assets and liabilities of the National Development Company (NDC)
in First Clark Centennial Corporation (FCCC) to CDC.[4]
In connection with the reopening of the park was the Clark National Duathlon
Championships on December 19, and the holding of the annual district assembly of
some 10,000 members of Jehovahs Witnesses in Pampanga and Tarlac on December
23-25. CDC spent some 2.5-million for the rehabilitation of the on-site replica
of Barasoain Church, an amphitheatre, trade halls, and convention centres.[5]

Published December 26, 2007 5:01pm

Dr. Jose Rizal, Emilio Aguinaldo at Apolinario Mabini.

at meditation gardens. -Fidel Jimenez, GMANews.TV

PGMA inaugurates Nayong Pilipino Complex at Clark Expo

Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga (22 December) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
inaugurated today the Nayong Pilipino Complex here to become the country's center
of living cultural, historical and custom heritage.
The President cut the ribbon that signified the formal opening of the Nayong Pilipino
sa Clark Expo (NPCE) at the Colonial Plaza in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
With the opening's December theme dubbed as "Pasko Sa Nayon: Nagniningning and
Pag-asa sa Kabila ng Lahat," she toured the cultural theme park featuring the replica
of the Barasoain Church, the Heroes' Plaza and the Ifugao Village.
Barasoain Church played a very important role in Philippine history. It was the seat of
the Philippine Revolutionary Congress where the Malolos Constitution was drafted
and the inauguration of the Philippine Republic on Jan. 25, 1899 was held. Within the
church and corridor areas are religious and historical artifacts on display.
The Heroes' Plaza replicates the houses of national heroes and showcases life in the
revolutionary period, where Jose Rizal, Emilio Aguinaldo and Apolinario Mabini were
important figures.
The President listened elatedly to a Muslim's ADHAN interpreted by Ustadz Ali Amer
and watched delightedly the dance of the TUKON Kalinga dancers.
During the inaugural program, the President distributed initial 50 gift packs worth
P250 each which contained rice, noodles, canned goods to 50 children from the
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) affiliated institutions.
The children also received from the President cash gift worth P100 each.
The 50 DSWD children-recipients were part of the 400 children and 600 indigent
families from its affiliated institutions, including the Haven for Children, Tarlac Lingap
Center, Home for the Kids of Nueva Ecija and several other institutions.
Atty. Charito L. Planas, NPCE executive director, thanked the President for being part
of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation's objective that aimed to reopen this cultural
theme park in Clark Expo Freeport Zone after its original park in Pasay City was
closed several years ago.
Planas said that there will be free admission to the public from Dec. 22, 2007 to
February 2008 and after this date, a simple token fee will be charged to the public
ranging between P5 and P10.
The park is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. with Sunday Mass at 9:30
a.m. only.
The Nayong Pilipino sa Clark Expo is a fully-developed cultural theme park with all its
attractions that include a museum, native houses, arts and crafts centers of the
Northen and Southern Philippines, restaurants, meditation gardens and special
features for events, exhibits and cultural performances.
