Acid rain and seeds

When sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides

incorporate into rain, snow or mist, the result
is acid precipitation: air pollutants that can
damage people and property miles away from
the industrial plants that caused them. Acid
rain is particularly deadly to green growing
things, impacting forest health, farmers' livelihood and the world's precious food
supply.

Acid precipitation is any type of precipitation with a pH lower than 5.6. There
are many variations of acid precipitation including rain, snow, dew, hail, and fog. Acid
rain specifically is an issue that affects both organisms and environments around the
world. Acid rain has been shown to affect many crops and plants.

Every seed contains a tiny living plant and a food supply to nourish that plant
when it first begins to develop. The plant and the food supply are enclosed in a
protective coat, which keeps the contents of the seed from drying out. The tiny plant
can survive for weeks, months, or even years.

Factors such as temperature and moisture determine when the plant within the seed
will start to grow again. This resumption of growth is
called germination. Before seeds can germinate, they
must absorb water, which causes the food-storing
tissues to swell and crack the seed coat. The root is
the first part of the plant to emerge from the seed.

All rain is mildly acidic because carbon dioxide forms a weak acid when it dissolves
in water vapor. If the pH of rain falls below 5.0, the rain is usually classified as acid
rain. In this lab report, we will test the same bean seed at different levels of pH in
order to simulate an acid rain, and be able to observe the effects it generates to the
plants growth.
Personal conclusion:

It is incredible to see the indirect consequences of the human activities in our planet.
Because that is the main cause of all of this. Acid rain was provoked because of the
emission of nocive gases. One more time I can prove how everything we do have a
bigger effect on the planet that what it seems. As a conclusion, I could say that it is
necessary to make the society concerns about the actual problems, before it is too
late.
