ASSESSMENT 2/ RATIONAL

"Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education ("Music Education,"

2016)." Performance arts moves the feelings of children, and expressing their feelings whether

for play or learn. The early interaction with music positively influences the children's life,

creativity, rhythmic movement, and improve their listening skills ("Early Childhood," 2017). So,

every classroom in kindergarten must contain arts and music so that the children can feel it

physically and emotionally. In my paper, I will talk about a general overview of the project and

learners, and a justification for implementing the performing arts in kindergarten, and the success

of the final performance and the areas of developments in children through learning performance

arts.

The project is all about performing arts specifically about music and movement while the

children are singing and moving fluently in the classroom. The song called "Let's Count to 20."

where the children will sing and move their hands in the air, move their body, and stop suddenly.

Students who participate in the project were six students. All of them are in KG2. They are five

years old. They are from different nationalities such as Emirati, Egyptian, Jordanian, and

Filipino.

Before I chose the song, I made sure to select a song that goes back to the curriculum and

to the current unit that the students are taking, to help them read the sequence of numbers, and to

save number's order. And I made sure to introduce music into the lesson to get an exciting and

useful lesson. An effective program in preschool and kindergarten include performance arts

curriculum, which is art, music, movement, and dance. Learning through the arts in kindergarten

is beneficial. The most apparent benefit of performing arts is the development of skills in self-

presentation because children at an early age should learn how to present their self in front of an

audience. Also, it will allow children to grow their self-confidence and self-esteem. Secondly,
participation in arts will enable them to build interaction and collaboration with the children. For

example, when children act together they will have to create conversations with each other which

will increase their cooperation. Thirdly, as is known, performance arts help the children to

express their feelings and develop new ideas to represent themselves (Duffy, 2006, p.84).

Fourthly, performance art is an essential means of stimulating creativity in problem-solving. It

can challenge children's perceptions about themselves and their world.

I faced many difficulties when I shoot the video, but I used strategies for overcoming

them during the implementation. The first difficulty I encountered is the children were lazy, and

they don't want to do the activity because it was the last period and they want to go home. The

strategy I used for overcoming this problem is I let them jump ten times, to keep the sleep and

laziness away from them. The second difficulty I faced is the students were very close to each

other. So, I made sure that the students extended their hand, to make a distance between them.

The third difficulty is the tallest students was standing in front, which made it difficult to short

students to look to their friends. So, I used the "long in the back and the short in the front"

strategy to organize them.

Because music is not only educational, the children have succeeded in providing a

fantastic video featuring distinct movements. Ensure they are accommodating the concept of the

song, which is counting. What led to the success of the video, is their love of songs and action,

and the spirit of cooperation between them. The most successful thing is all the children achieved

all the required objectives, namely, learn the numbers in order, count from one to twenty, move

children's body members and enjoy singing and moving.

Learning through the arts, music and movement has the potential to motivate and

stimulate children in various activities that encourage them to discover, invent and explore,
which contributes to children's development in all areas of learning. Children increase their

musical knowledge, abilities, and creativity while enhancing physical, social, cognitive,

emotional, and imagination development as they engage in performance. Physical development

will support children's small and large muscle development as well as they will develop their fine

and gross motor skills. Through music and movement children will sing and move together in the

circle area, which promotes their social skills, as they will learn how to interact with others, and

they will increase their self-confidence. Through the music and movement activity children will

learn the numbers and number's order which will develop their cognitive domain. During

creative and dynamic music, children may be able to act and present what they feel. For

example, if the children are bored, they will make strange movements to attract attention. Also, if

the child feels sad, he may not dance to reflect his grief. These actions evolve their emotional

sense. In addition, it will help their creativity as it will allow children to innovate and adapt, and

increase their abilities. Also, it will help them to solve problems that they encounter, and employ

new ideas and movements to improve their performance.

In the end, I advise all the schools, teachers and parents to include performance arts

within the lives of children at an early age, to have creative students, confident in themselves,

and collaborating with their colleagues. According to Montessori approach, "art is essential in

the environment of the child from birth on (Montessori, 2010)."
