SPECIFIC TOPIC: Byaheng Bulacan: A Tour Guide Mobile Application for the
Province of Bulacan

DEFINITION OF THE TOPIC:

3.1 PROJECT CONTEXT

Nowadays, tourism is the flourishing industry. It became an important factor that creates
an impact in the development of countrys economy. The industry of tourism give us such
benefit as: provide employment for the people, engage business in services sector (airlines,
hotels, public transportations, and restaurants) and also in earning foreign exchange. Tourism in
one country is a source of income and it is also important for the growth and development of
developing country or third-world country like Philippines.

Philippines, as a tropical country, is attractive to tourists in many ways. It is home to

multiple cultures and traditions that have drawn interests internationally. Philippines is also
considered as an example of mixed economy, which is engaged in agriculture and in the industry
of tourism. Also, Philippines has splendid natural environment like the sea, beaches and other
inland attractions. The culture habits are also very attractive for tourists.

Bulacan is a province in the Philippines which is located in central Luzon region. The province
of Bulacan is so rich when it comes to historical heritage and industries such as marble and
marbleized limestone, jewelries, pyrotechnics, leathers, aquaculture, meat products, fine
garments, well-built furniture, high-value crops, and sweets and native delicacies and also high
quality native products. Many places and person from the province of Bulacan become part of
the national history. One of the historical places in Bulacan are the Barasoain church in Malolos,
wherein the first constitutional democracy in Asia was born. Bulacan is also called the cradle of
heroes because many heroes and national artists are came from the province of Bulacan among
them is Marcelo H. del Pilar the great Propagandist, the hero of Tirad pass General Gregorio
del Pilar. Among national artist, there are Francisco Baltazar Balagtas the legendary poet,
the musician Nicanor Abelardo, and the national sculptor Guillermo Tolentino, they are all the
pride of Bulacan. Bulacan become an ideal tourist destination, it owes a lot to its vital role in
Philippine history, and rich heritage sites, culture and arts. It is known for historical sites;
nostalgic old houses and churches, ecological attractions, religious attractions, fiestas or
festivals, swimming and various themed attractions, and it is also known for the native crafts and
delicacies.

Technology plays a major role in our daily lives. It is used to perform different task that
make our life easier. Gadgets are one of the technologies that we are using today. The rate of
people that bought gadgets is increasing at a fast rate. One of the gadgets that we are using right
now is mobile phones or smartphones. Philippines are one in Asian country particularly in
southeast that adopts smartphone and according to IDC (International Data Corporation)
Philippines is the fastest-growing smartphone market in ASEAN (Association of Southeast
Asian Nation). The popularity of smartphones and mobile application can be used in promoting
the tourism industry and can be also a factor in lifting the economy of a country.

Today, there are ways to promote the industry of tourism that do not need to spent too
much like posting pictures of sites in social medias, creating facebook page, writing blogs about
the places, contributing an article to a magazine, selling souvenirs and also by creating
applications that promote tourism. By the use of technology, promoting the industry of tourism is
now at ease. By using the proposed mobile application, the tourist can view information such as
location of particular place he/she wants to go in Bulacan, and also the route for the destination.
The route for the destination is accessible by using the mapping feature of the mobile
application. The map that is used in the mobile application do not require internet connection
unlike in using google maps, the user requires to have internet connection. The mobile
application also has notification feature s for the festivals that helps the user to plan or rearrange
their traveling plans in Bulacan province. Websites, blogs and social Medias are also a tool for
promoting tourism, but it requires internet access. By using mobile applications that do not
require internet connection provide convenience for the users.

Through this study, the proponents will be proposing a mobile application that can be
used for the tourism industry of the province of Bulacan. It can also help the province in
introducing the provinces culture, food industry, heritage places or sites, tourist spots or
destinations within the province, and also the festivals or the recreations occur throughout the
province. The proposed mobile application will also serve as a tour guide application that will
help in giving information in the places particularly tourist spots in the province of Bulacan. The
application has notification feature that notify the user if there is a festival that will occur in a
month. The proposed application has mapping feature that gives the user information about the
location and also the distance of the place where the user stands. The user can also view the
places in Bulacan province wherein he/she can spend vacation. The application also contains
information about the popular tourist destination in Bulacan, resorts or places for swimming,
ecological sites, shopping malls, restaurants, accommodations, local products, and also the
festivals all over Bulacan.

Objectives of the Study

3.2.1 General Objectives

The general objective of the study is to develop a mobile application that can be used for
guiding tourists in the province of Bulacan.

3.2.2 Specific Objectives

The study aims to achieve the following:

1. To develop a mobile application that provides fascinating information about the

tourist spot and its enticing images.

2. To develop a mobile application that can be an alternative tool that can be used
for tourist campaign.

3. To create an application that guide tourists and other people in exploring the
province of Bulacan by using the top-view mapping feature of the application.

4. To create an application that makes accommodation and hotel reservation

easier using the application as the substitution for reservation on the website of the hotels.

Significance of the Study

 In general, this study aims to develop a Tour Guide mobile application that can be an
alternative product to promoting tourism industry the Province of Bulacan.

3.3.1 Users/Tourists

-The study will help the users or tourist to choose and guide destination in
Bulacan where they can go also they can learn by the trivias and information in each of
the tourist spots included in the application.

3.3.2 Province of Bulacan

-This study will help the province of Bulacan in lifting the tourism industry.

3.3.3 Proponents

-This study is helpful to the proponents; it puts the required skills into actual and
applies the knowledge for the overall functionality of the application.

3.3.4 Future Proponents

-This study can serve as a reference of other upcoming program developer of the
android system implemented software.

Scope and Delimitations

The mobile application is a tour guide application that will be used for tourism industry
of the province of Bulacan. It contains Bulacans food industry, ecological sites, tourist spots or
destinations and also the fiestas or festivals that occurring within the province.

The local products button includes the delicacies, food products and restaurants that can
be found in Bulacan. The Festival Button, it includes the festivals that held throughout the
province of Bulacan and it will notify in the application if the festival is held that day. The
mobile application also has Municipalities Button that contains all of the pictures of each
municipality in Bulacan, if the tourist clicked one in the municipalities displayed it will
automatically show the map that will give you information where are tourist standing, distance of
the tourist location to the location of the municipality and the estimated travel cost. The Tourist
Spot button contains the following, if the user or tourist is traveling then he/she noticed or heard
that the place or a view is a tourist spot there is a button at the top named Camera that the
application will capture the photo of the spot then if the picture is detected the trivias, location,
and other information about the spot will show and there will be buttons hotels nearby and
restaurant nearby the tourist location. The button named All will show all the tourist spot in
Bulacan, if one of the choices is picked the application will show its other picture in different
view and its information. The top destination is included also it will display the most visited
tourist spot in Bulacan. The Resorts Button contains pictures of each resort in Bulacan with the
information like the price of cottage and entrance fee. The Hotel and Accommodation Button, all
hotels in Bulacan is included and its rental prices. The user can book in his/her selected hotel by
getting some personal information, the tourist can view deals in a particular hotel. After filling
out all the necessary information needed the app will send the information in the website of the
hotel.

Restaurants Button also can be seen in the application its location and also prices of
foods. The Travel Plan Button contains mark your location, this will set the users planned
destination in the map. Travel plan also contains calendar where user can do a planned trip if the
date is marked in the calendar the application sends a notification if it is fiesta or moving in such
locations. When the one of the menu was clicked there are several pictures, if the picture was
clicked it will display bigger size and the information are below. If one of the picture has a
website the link is included example the resort has website in the info there will be a visit
website link. Lastly the Directory button this consists of contacts for emergency purposes,
transportations, and government offices hotlines. This preview is in high-quality image.

It also has mapping feature, each picture has the button Go to Map that the users location
where he/she is standing is automatically generated by the use of GPS and the clicked pictures
location is also marked. The distance of a particular place depends on how near or far it is in the
location that the tourist inputs. It also contains the primary routes that is used in navigating. This
routes are high-lighted so that the user can see what route he/she can use. In using the map, the
user requires internet connection to access it.

Only the province of Bulacan is in the application. In making reservations or for booking,
the user cannot pay directly. The unofficial events that held in the province are also not included.
The proponents will be using Unity Engine 5.5 for the animation and building of the application,
Eclipse as the IDE (Integrated Development Environment), and Java as its programming
platform.
