Vaccinations
Listen to and read the passage.
Vaccinations are very important in first years of a persons life. Today
Mrs Smith is at the local medical clinic with her
son, George. George is six months old and he has
an appointment for a routine check-up and an
injection. The nurse weighed him, measured him,
and took his temperature. George is thirty-four
inches long, and he weighs twenty-eight pounds.
His height and weight are average for his age.
His temperature is 36.6 degrees, which is normal. Mrs Smith is grateful
that her son is a healthy baby boy. Now, the nurse is preparing to give
George a vaccination. A vaccination is an injection. Babies are given these
injections to prevent them from getting serious diseases throughout
their life.
