Chapter I

1.1 Background

Millennium Development Goals (Millennium Development


Goals or abbreviated in MDGs), the agreement heads of state and
representatives from 189 countries of the United Nations (UN) which
has run from September 2000, has several points target one of which is
the achievement of the people's welfare and community development
in 2015 (Bappenas, 2004). Achievement of the welfare of the people
supported by public health one of which includes the health of
children. Public health is one of the principal amount in the context of
the progressofthenation.
A great number of children namely 30% of the total population
of Indonesia, or about 73 million people and school age is the golden
age for instilling the values of clean and healthy behaviors (PHBs) thus
potentially as the change agent to promote PHBs, either in the school
environment, family and society. Currently in Indonesia there are more
than 250,000 better than public schools, private and religious schools.
Schools in addition to functioning as a place of learning can also be a
threat of disease transmission if not managed properly. Moreover,
school-age child is also a period prone to various diseases.
There are several indicators that are used as a measure to assess PHBs
in school are: Wash your hands with running water and soap, eating
healthy snacks in the school cafeteria, use the toilet clean and healthy,
exercise regularly and measurable, eradicate mosquito larvae, do not
smoke at school, weigh and measure height every 6 months, dispose of
waste in place.

Brushing your teeth is an action that needs to be taught to


children so that they can be a good and healthy habits. Brushing your
teeth is the most convenient and effective way to maintain the
cleanliness of your teeth and gums of plaque and food debris. Brushing
teeth should be done properly so that debris or leftover food can
actually be removed from the surface of the tooth (Karinta,2011).
World Health Organization (WHO) in 2003 stated that the
incidence of dental caries in children - children are at 60-90%
(Kompas, 2009). Based Household Health Survey (Survey, 2004), the
prevalence of caries in Indonesia reached 90.05% and is relatively
higher than in other developing countries. Number of patients with
caries in Indonesia is dominated by a group of children aged less than
12 years 76.2% or eight out of ten children in Indonesia have problems
cavities caused by wrong toothbrushing habits (Dumiyani, 2012).
According to research conducted by Notohartojo (2011) brushing 90%
effect on the incidence of dental caries risk. In addition Worms: 40-
60% (Profile Dep Kes 2005), Anemia: 23.2% (Yayasan Kusuma
Buana 2007).

Health promotion is an effort to improve society through the


learning process with the community, especially people in school
education. Health promotion is done so they can help themselves, as
well as develop activities rooted in the community, according to local
socio-cultural conditions and supported by policies internally and
health oriented environment. In the context of self-help is intended that
the school community is able to act to prevent the onset of health
problems, maintain and improve the health and well able to cope when
these health problems already occurred in their neighborh
1.2 Purpose

Sensitize students about the importance of oral health, told about


how to maintain healthy teeth and mouth and tell the students how to
brush teeth properly. With that goal is expected that students can be
aware of and understand how to maintain oral health and know how to
brush teeth correctly

Chapter II
2.1 Contents

a) Healthy teeth
Healthy tooth is teeth clean what else there is no plaque tartar,
no pains or aches, and there are signs of dental caries.

b) Definition of Brushing Teeth


Brushing your teeth is to clean the teeth with a toothbrush and
toothpaste.

c) Benefit Brushing Teeth


be clean and healthy teeth.
Prevent caries or tartar, cavities and other diseases.
Provide fresh feeling in the mouth.
Preventing bad breath odors.

e) Caring for teeth, gums and mouth to Keep Clean and Healthy
Eat nutritious foods (four of five perfectly healthy).
Limit foods and beverages that contain carbohydrates (sugars)
such as ice cream, candy, chocolate and so on. Sugar content that
causes rapid tooth loss. Likewise, sticky foods, and not have
sufficient mastication process, such as fast food, which makes
dental plaque is formed.
Brush your teeth every day in the morning after breakfast and
after dinner / bedtime in a way that is good and true.
Use toothpaste that contains fluoride, because fluoride has been
shown to reduce the incidence of dental caries.
Conduct periodic checks to the dentist every six months, so that if
there are teeth troubled start / cavities can be addressed before
already be great (early detection). It should be understood that
once the teeth start cavities, caries can not shrink again but slowly
but surely will be enlarged continuously.

1. How it Works
Washing hands.
Grab and lift equipment.
Remove the full content of toothpaste and toothbrush evenly on
the surface.
Close the toothpaste and return it to its place.
Begin rinsing with water.
Brush your teeth and gums with the brush head position 45

We should use the toothbrush it self.


Brushing teeth should not be too hard.
Do not swallow the water used gargle - gargle.
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush.

A. C0NCLUSION

Health promotion is used as a means of health care through the education


system of passive and active learning. Example simple as a toothbrush and wash your hands.
Both of these are simple examples of what can be done early. Brush your teeth and wash your
hands is a trivial thing, but both are very important for the health for children.

B. ADVICE

Therefore we as health workers should be aggressively promoting healthy living such


as brushing your teeth from an early age.
