INTRODUCTION
AutoCADis a commercial software application for 2D and 3D
computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting available since 1982 as a
desktop application and since 2010 as a mobile web- and cloud-based
app marketed as AutoCAD 360. Developed and marketed by Autodesk,
Inc., AutoCAD was first released in December 1982, running on
microcomputers with internal graphics controllers.

Prior to the introduction of AutoCAD, most commercial CAD

programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each
CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal. AutoCAD
is used across a wide range of industries, by architects, project
managers, engineers, designers, and other professionals. It is supported
by 750 training centers worldwide as of 1994.

As Autodesk's flagship product, by March 1986 AutoCAD had become

the most ubiquitous CAD program worldwide. As of 2014, AutoCAD is
in its twenty-ninth generation, and collectively with all its variants,
continues to be the most widely used CAD program throughout most of
the world.

1. The figures typed at the keyboard determining the corners of the
outlines in the above examples are two-dimensional (2D) x, y coordinate
points. When working in 2D, coordinates are expressed in terms of two
numbers separated by a comma.
2. Coordinate points can be shown as positive or negative numbers.
3. The method of constructing an outline as shown in the first two
examples is known as the absolute coordinate entry method, where the x,
y coordinates of each corner of the outlines are entered at the command
line as required.
4. The method of constructing an outline as in the third example is
known as the relative coordinate entry method coordinate points are
entered relative to the previous entry. In relative coordinate entry, the @
symbol is entered before each set of coordinates with the following rules
in mind:
+ve x entry is to the right
-ve x entry is to the left
+ve y entry is upwards
- ve y entry is downwards.
5. The next example (the fourth) shows how lines at angles can be drawn
taking advantage of the relative coordinate entry method. Angles in
AutoCAD are measured in 360 degrees in a counter-clockwise
(anticlockwise) direction the < symbol precedes the angle.
Command:_line Specify first point: 70,230
Specify next point: @220,0
Specify next point: @0< 70

Another method of constructing accurate drawings is by using a method

known as tracking. When Line is in use, as each Specify next point:
appears at the command line, a rubber-banded line appears from the last
point entered. Drag the rubber-band line in any direction and enter a
number at the keyboard, followed by a right-click. The line is drawn in
the dragged direction of a length in units equal to the entered number.
In this example because all lines are drawn in either the vertical or the
horizontal direction, either press the F8 key or click the ORTHO
Point to point method

Command:_
Line Specify first point: enter 65,220 right-click
Specify next point: drag to right enter 240 right-click
Specify next point: drag down enter 145 right-click
Specify next point or drag left enter 65 right-click

way to handle his all the customers and providing them a very easy way to get the better
designs.
SOLID WORKS

SOLIDWORKS (originally SolidWorks) is solid modeling CAD (computer-aided design)

software that runs on Microsoft Windows and is since 1997 produced by DassaultSystmes
SOLIDWORKS Corp., a subsidiary of DassaultSystmes, S. A. (Vlizy, France).
SOLIDWORKS is currently used by over 2 million engineers and designers at more than
165,000 companies worldwide. FY2011 revenue for SOLIDWORKS was 483 million dollars.[3]

SOLIDWORKS Corporation was founded in December 1993 by Massachusetts Institute of

Technology graduate Jon Hirschtick; Hirschtick used $1 million he had made while a member of
the MIT Blackjack Team to set up the company. Initially based in Waltham, Massachusetts,
USA, Hirschtick recruited a team of engineers with the goal of building 3D CAD software that
was easy-to-use, affordable, and available on the Windows desktop. Operating later from
Concord, Massachusetts, SOLIDWORKS released its first product SolidWorks 95, in 1995.[5][6]
In 1997 Dassault, best known for its CATIA CAD software, acquired SolidWorks for $310
million in stock.

SOLIDWORKS currently markets several versions of the SOLIDWORKS CAD software in

addition to eDrawings, a collaboration tool, and DraftSight, a 2D CAD product.

SOLIDWORKS was headed by John McEleney from 2001 to July 2007 and Jeff Ray from 2007
to January 2011. The current CEO is Gian Paolo Bassi from Jan 2015. Gian Paolo Bassi replaces
Bertrand Sicot, who is promoted Vice President Sales of DassaultSystmes Value Solutions
sales channel.

Market:-
DS Solidworks Corp. has sold over 1.5 million licenses of SOLIDWORKS worldwide.[7]
This includes a large proportion of educational licenses. The Sheffield Telegraph comments that
Solidworks is the world's most popular CAD software.[8] Its user base ranges from individuals to
large corporations, and covers a very wide cross-section of manufacturing market segments.
Commercial sales are made through an indirect channel, which includes dealers and partners
throughout the world. In the United States, the first reseller of SOLIDWORKS, in 1995, was
Computer Aided Technology, Inc, headquartered in Chicago. Directly competitive products to
SOLIDWORKS include Solid Edge, and Autodesk Inventor. SOLIDWORKS also partners with
third party developers to add functionality in niche market applications like finite element
analysis, circuit layout, tolerance checking, etc. SOLIDWORKS has also licensed its 3D
modeling capabilities to other CAD software vendors, notably ANVIL.[9]

Commands in Solid Works:-

1.) Line
2.) Rectangle
3.) Rib
4.) Sweep
5.) Slot
6.) Relation
7.) Re-design
8.) Control
9.) Extrude
10.) Loft is useful for building a surface through dissimilar profiles or bounding a four sided
shape using the option of guide curves.

11.)Fillis a catch-all for areas that can not be defined using Loft and Sweep. It should be
the only consideration when needing to fill 3 sided or 5 or more sided areas.

12.) Boundary is much like loft except that it does treats the first and second
directions equally. Loft profiles have influence over the guide curves which sometimes produces
un-predictable and undesired behavior. It also can match adjacent surfaces curve continuously
on all sides.

13.) Freeform is for modifying an existing surface by pushing and pulling on it with
control curves and points.

Workflow:-
1. Face Settings identify surface or face to modify. Optionally assign symmetry (if
applicable)
2. Control Curves create control curves or optionally assign matching conditions on
boundary tags in SolidWorks Window
3. Control Points create Control points on previous assigned curve or on existing boundaries
if they are moveable.
4. Display optionally control visualization of mesh, curvature etc.
