CASE MANAGEMENT COMPARISON PAPER 2
Case management workers have the same goal for their clients no matter if they work in a
community setting or a correctional setting. Their job responsibilities are the same as they work
with clients/offenders to make better decisions in life and to cut down on re-offenses. Case
management approaches are used to decrease the number of re-offenses by using unemployment,
clients/offenders with employment issues, substance abuse issues, and domestic violence issues.
Their clients range from adults to juveniles, probationers, parolees, and arrestees. Case managers
will use one of the known theories to address the clients issues in order for the client to start
probation. This is typically likely through the teamwork of outside associates as an assignment of
improving the protection of the community by efficiently managing the wrongdoers in the
communal. The primary goal of case management in a correctional setting is to increase public
safety by reducing the recidivism rates. The way to reduce recidivism rates is by managing
offenders within the community. Therefore, both community case managers and correctional
case managers have to work together to reduce and maintain recidivism rates. Community
corrections agencies should reach out to collaborative partners so that they have resources within
the community. Collaborative partners and resources are essential for the promotion of offender
success.
CASE MANAGEMENT COMPARISON PAPER 3
Case management is a process that should be altered in order to cater to various special
populations. In the case management of special populations the research and data analysis should
be within the system so that it enhances the understanding of common interest. This allows for
case managers to have a clear understanding of their clients allowing them to manage the case
and client effectively. Each case should be handled with professional developments which makes
for a sense of responsibility that is shared in the case management system. The case management
system is a system within a system. Case management has the responsibility to share the best
practices, data, and analysis that is needed in the assessment of local practice effectiveness.
When an individual falls into the category of a special population it means that they need extra
help and that is what the case managers are put in place to offer. Special populations can be an
addict, a mentally ill individual, or a homeless individual. Being classified as special population
just means that the person needs more services in order to successfully complete their
program(s).
Potential clients that would be in need of case management in both correctional and
community settings would be clients that suffer from addiction, clients that suffer from mental
illness, and clients that are homeless. Each of these special need groups would benefit from
having case managers both in a correctional setting and in the community. Of course, each of
these groups would only receive case management in the corrections setting if they are arrested
for a crime. While incarcerated these groups would have a case manager to help them with
counseling, appropriate programs, and medication. Once the individuals that fall within these
groups are released from jail or prison they would benefit from having a community case

manager. In the community the case manager would provide connections with doctors, housing,
employment, and programs within the community that would help the individual remain
successful in their lifestyle change (Collaborative Justice, 2015). Having access to case managers
in both setting allows for the individual to be able to feel secure in their process and feel
confident that he or she is not working alone. They know that they will have a case manager in
Why Ethics and Confidentiality Play an Integral Role when Working with Clients
One of the most important roles in working with clients is ethics and confidentiality.
When it comes to working in case management there are many ethical dilemmas that can occur
on a regular basis. The obligation, practitioners duties, and the conduct of the system as a whole
are just some of the ethical and confidentiality issues that occur in case management. Ethical
issues and confidentiality issues can have lasting profound effects on the clients so upholding the
ethical and confidentiality is very important for the case managers and the clients. Failing to
maintain high ethical standards and confidentiality can have devastating effects on the client, the
case manager, and the community as a whole (NAADAC/NCC AP Code of Ethics, 2013).
There are some ethical standards that should remain such as proscribed and prescribed
behaviors and obligations of human services workers. Each case that a case manager workers
should be include identification of ethics questions. The ethical questions help to maintain the
clients personal information is kept confidential which allows the client peace of mind that they
Ethics and confidentiality are important to case management because it allows the client
be reassured that their information, situation, and life problems will remain with the case
manager and those enlisted to help. Ethics and confidentiality make the clients feel safe which
leads to faster healing, them being more open, and them jumping into the road to recovery faster.
Ethics and confidentiality both ensure effectiveness in case management in both a correctional
Conclusion
Case management is in place in both correctional settings and community settings for the
same reason; to help clients that are in need. While the setting of community case managers and
correctional case managers may be different they are both in place to provide services for clients
that need their help if anything from employment to shelter, to addiction recovery resources.
Case managers can be the difference in a client being successful at their rehabilitation or failing
at their rehabilitation.
