Reflection

Self- reflection is an overarching concept and a series of specific reflective behaviour such as gaining
awareness of educational surroundings, planning deliberately and taking action, assessing the
impact of our decisions, adjusting out course of action based on feedback and engaging in reflective
cycle continuously (Hall & Simeral, 2015). Developing skill takes time, efforts, energy and a hefty
dose of self-reflection. Self- reflection is a serious thought about ones character and action which
examines and contemplates our thoughts and actions (Bisson, 2017). Initially when I started MBA
programme I used to work for an MNC in India as a Financial Analyst. There were many people from
different cultural background and because it was an MNC there were many foreign people working
with us. At that time I didnt focus on communication values and cross cultural differences. But after
going through this module I have realised that the role of cross cultural communication is very
important in any business. I have learned the key aspects of communications that is required for a
leader to carry out business in such a rapid changing environment. This module has also familiarised
me with different techniques, models and theories of communications.

The communication module has also made me go through different companies case study and their
knowledge management system. I have learned how knowledge strategy helps to preserve
information and all the important documents at one place, and how effectively it can be used by
everyone in the organisation. I went through different models of Knowledge management which I
never heard of before. I came across different information systems that help in preserving
companys information. In the previous modules I didnt went through theories much which affected
my marks however, in this module I tried to cover as much theories as I could cover. I appreciate the
way lecturers split all my colleagues in different groups and asked us to work together as a team for
presentation. I consider this as an opportunity to work to other people and apply and share our
views. The theories have helped a lot during the presentation to express our views. Based on the
theories and lectures I was able to recommend some suggestions which suits bests to the
organisation.

Initially, I had no idea what is the role of knowledge and communication and how are they
interlinked. The communication module has covered various knowledge management models,
information systems, interpersonal communication, business communication models and
communication plans. The key learnings from my point of view is the knowledge management
strategies and interpersonal communication. In the interpersonal skills there are internal and
external communications whereas, in knowledge strategies there were different models of
transferring knowledge to internal as well as external audiences. The module have also emphasized
on the all non-verbal communications such as, body language, gestures and body postures which
usually differs from person to person. Non-verbal communication describes the process of passing
on the signals to other people which includes eye contact, gestures, facial expressions, postures and
more (Mehrabian, 1972). To be honest I have realised that I need to improve my non-verbal
communication. While giving the presentations due to lack of confidence I dont realise the body
posture and gestures Im using. If I am working with a company where there is cultural diversity
some gestures transfers wrong message and sometimes it becomes offensive.
In the knowledge management part, while giving the presentation and writing assignment I learned
how a message can turn into an offense if its not delivered properly. I also learned that a message
can have more than one meaning if its not delivered perfectly. And many times people get offended
towards the brand. Through a lot of discussion with my colleagues we came up with some
recommendation to improve such mistakes with the help stakeholders analysis, knowledge transfer
improvement plan and knowledge management models. From communication part, I have learned
how important it is for a leader to effectively communicate with the audience. Both internal and
external communication plays an important role for any business to run successfully in the long run.
Further, I have evaluated my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats on my personal and
professional level. SWOT analysis is an analytical framework which helps in identifying current
position, determines objectives and analyses obstacles (Sarsby, 2016).

Strengths

I always try to understand things before jumping in to the conclusion.

I prefer two way communications and provide opportunities to others to express their thoughts.

Weakness

Lack of confidence to speak in front of the people, this affects my body postures and facial
expressions.

Try to complete the sentence faster which affects the listeners to understand the meaning of my
context.

Opportunities

Engage in group activities and cross cultural activities to raise the confidence in me.

Add the weaknesses in my career development plan (mentioned in DPPLP) and set a target to
complete it.

Threats

The time is very less because after few months Im going to join a company for placement
opportunity.

To complete all the tasks I need a lot of training and hard work. I have a habit of getting laid back
which also needs to be overcome.

Thus, the overall communication module made me understand different channels of communication
and different technologies available to enhance knowledge management strategy. With all these
information I can prepare myself for the future challenges and resist towards changing environment
in the business.
