Race relations, hate groups, and undocumented immigrants: State

actions preferred by Floridians differ most by age, race/ethnicity,
and education.

-- Floridas growth over the past four decades, fueled by people moving into the state
from other states and countries, has transformed it into the nations third largest state.
New arrivals, along with generational replacement, are constantly changing the states
population makeup.
In this population flux, the 2017 USF-Nielsen Sunshine State Survey shows
Floridians growing more critical of the States efforts to improve race relations. At the
same time, Floridians are highly supportive of protecting religious and educational
facilities from attacks by hate groups and of requiring employers to check the immigrant
status of new hires. Opinions are more mixed, but negative, toward expanding rights
and assistance to undocumented immigrants and creating safe spaces on college
campuses for undocumented immigrant students.
State falling behind in improving race relations.
Floridas minority population more closely mirrors the racial/ethnic makeup of the
nation at-large than any other state. As the minority population has grown, Floridians
have become more critical of the States efforts to improve race relations: 67% give the
State either a fair or poor grade compared to 26% who award it a good or
excellent grade. (A similar pattern has been observed nationally.) Poor ratings of
the States performance in improving race relations have nearly doubled since
2008, from 17% to 30%. Positive ratings fell from 42% to 26% over the same period.
Question wording: How good a job does the state do improving race relations? Would
you say excellent, good, fair or poor?

The most striking difference of opinion appears between blacks and other racial/ethnic
groups: almost half of black respondents (46%) give the State a poor rating, compared
to roughly a quarter of white (26%) and Hispanic (25%) respondents. Feelings of racial
injustice, especially toward the criminal justice system, are highest among the states
black population.
By age, younger (18- to 34-year-olds32%) and the oldest (80 and older36%)
Floridians are the most likely to say that the State government is doing a good or
excellent job of improving race relations. Working-age Floridians are more critical, in
part because they are more likely to perceive pay and promotion disparities through
racial lenses. By educational level, the most positive ratings come from those with only
a high school diploma or less, and the most critical from college graduates.
Negative ratings are highest in South Florida: Miami/Fort Lauderdale (71%) and Palm
Beach (83%) with their larger minority populations and Naples (72%) with its larger
share of older white college graduates. Slightly less critical of State efforts are residents
of North Florida and the I-4 Corridor regions: North Florida (61%), Tampa Bay (63%),
and Orlando (61%).
Two-thirds favor State funding to protect religious facilities and schools against hate
group attacks.
Two-thirds of Floridians (66%) say that it would be going in the right direction for
the State to provide funding to protect religious facilities and schools from attacks
by hate groups. Relatively few say that this would be going in the wrong direction
(13%). Twenty-one percent did not express an opinion on the issue. Opinions differ
most by gender and race/ethnicity.
Women (71%) are more likely to support this State action than men (60%), a difference
that can be explained in two ways. First, women are more religious than their male
counterparts. Second, women are more likely than men to volunteer at their childs
school or place of worship, making security of these facilities more important in their
daily lives.
Blacks (71%) are slightly more likely than whites (66%) or Hispanics (64%) to view
protection of religious facilities and schools as a step in the right direction. FBI
hate-crime statistics show higher rates of hate crimes against blacks than other
races, especially crimes committed at churches.
Two-thirds of Floridians say providing funding to protect religious facilities and
schools from attacks by hate groups is going in the right direction.

Ironically, I had a lot of break-ins to my home; my vehicle had been temporarily
disabled, strange phone calls about an appeal for a murder trial in Charleston Sc.
Which in the end of the trial the Lorne George that had three life sentences was
set free.Then out of nowhere, on June 30, 2004 Pamela Moore from California
assaulted me which caused great bodily harm. Ms. Moore told me she hated me,
read off my tag number to my truck, spat in my face then commenced to fight
with me in my own driveway. I did not once hit this strange woman. I restrained
her. I was holding her down on my driveway asking who she was.
I asked the witness that was accompanying Ms. Moore, if he was her man and
requesting he come and get her. He just laughed and shook his head no. Later the
man was identified as W. Atkins on Deputy Flints computer. I asked if she was
going to stop fighting, Ms. Moore answered, yes. As I was letting her up off the
driveway, at that moment she bit me on my right wrist then she was pulling me
by my arm. After this, I realized I had a dislocated arm and fell to my knees. I
was crying but still asking, who she was. Ms. Moore answered your worst
nightmare! Teia came to rescue me and demanded Ms Moore, to get the hell
off her property. Ms. Moore told my thirteen year old daughter go dig a hole so
I can finish her off. Again, I did not know this woman or any of the witnesses.
Including the new neighbor across the street.
The hospital episodes are mind-boggling. I was drugged with morphine then
coaxed into receiving a shot to specifically erase my memory while the doctors
reset my arm. I was very hesitant in accepting this shot. But the doctors insisted.
I agreed with one condition, that I was not to be separated from my family.
I requested my mother or daughter stay in my presence the whole time I was
sedated. The doctor agreed under those terms. The doctor said because of the
small space in the room, the only time my family cannot be by my side is when
they reset my arm. It took them two tries to reset my arm. I remember vaguely an
officer standing at my bedside. When it was all over I was walking out by the
guidance of Tia, everybody in the ER was clapping and causing a big scene.
They were congratulating us.
Later I was informed of the events that took place in the ER. The officers pushed
Tia out of the room and caused a stir. She didnt want to leave my side. The
doctor allowed an interview by crime scene, in a heavily sedated condition.
Meanwhile another crime scene officer showed Teia pictures of Pamela that were
very traumatizing for her.
I called Deputy Allday, I wanted to know about his discoveries of the assault.
Deputy Allday stunned me when he said right away; he knew this assault had
nothing to do with my son. I asked how you know anything about my son. You
had mentioned something about him in the hospital, Deputy Allday explained. I
was at a complete loss, I didnt remember the interview. I asked, what did you
asked me to get that information. He reminded me I was pretty drugged at the
time and was saying all sorts of things, including something about.next Page

trial. Pamela said she jumped me cause she
thought I was sleeping with her man. I had
been selibat for five years and I was going
to trial because somebody thought I was
sleeping with her man? Easy way out!
Domestic dispute. I say it was a hired hit.
After several weeks had elapsed, to a long
drawn out debate of the law with the
funeral home, I had the transit order signed
and awaiting at Parks Funeral Home. It
seemed Dr. Berkland was stalling.
Supposedly, he was buried in work. He
also had a so-called conference in St. Louis
Missouri. Dr. Berkland could not get Cody
soon enough. Therefore, On August 02,
2004 Parks Funeral Home of Summerville
SC. exhumed Cody and he was put in my
possession. Once Mr. & Mrs. Helderman,
Katrina Tohosky (friend from earlier) and I
crossed the South Carolina state line with
the remains; I gave a call to Dr. Berkland
on his cellular phone and asked, What do
we do with Cody once we arrive in
Florida ? To my surprise Dr. Berkland
said, Take Cody home with you and set
him on an air vent to keep him cool.

God's glory is
revealed when he
gives the dumb a
voice.
What is God's glory?
It is a manifestation of his power.
The attributes of the God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob are: all powerful, all
knowing, and ever present.
Mankind is made in his image. He has
an eternal body consisting of a
consuming fire. Christians receive an
eternal body upon their earthly death.
Revelation 1:15.
And his feet like unto fine brass, as if
they burned in a furnace; and his voice
as the sound of many waters.
A powerful waterfall could be like the
voice of God. He created the earth
through his Holy Spirit.
Jesus is sitting in heaven, today. His sits
at the Father's right hand.
Revelation 4:3 And he that sat was to
look upon like a jasper and a sardine
stone: and there was a rainbow round
about the throne, in sight like unto an
emerald.
Sardis is a brownish stone. It was used to
make sharp edges in Lydia. Lydia was in
Turkey.
Jasper consists of quartz crystals. The
imperfections are orange. In heaven, the
Son will shine through it like the sun. It
will be very bright.
I saw a bright silver and white light in
my mind's eye. This was in the late
eighties. It was an epiphany.
An epiphany is defined as a
manifestation of a divine being.
This event happened while I was riding
in the car with my daughter's father. He
was being a jerk.
Before I could get upset, the epiphany
occurred. God protected me. I didn't say
anything about this for years.
The epiphany seemed to be distant. It
was a small white and silver glowing
silhouette. It was a partial silhouette.
God has chosen to use me. I can't get the
big head. In the Bible, he used a talking
donkey!
God's throne is symbolized by the
church altar. It is a holy place. The
church altar is God's footstool.
Kneeling on a pillow at home pleases the
Lord. He hears and answers prayer.
Prayer works.
I urge you to practice his presence in
worship, prayer, and study.

Greetings from the Mayors Office
Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving with
family and friends as we begin this holiday season.
On Friday November 10th, we held our annual Veterans Day Ceremony with
the dedication of the new monument The Purple Heart monument and the
attendance were phenomenal, we were blessed with 350-400 people attending
a great program honoring our veterans of the past and present. Many thanks to
Tim Ard for his leadership and community involvement for this program many
long hours went into the process of it being a success.
Also thank you to all the others who participated to make this event a success,
especially the St. Joe Foundation for their generous donation of the monument.
November 11th (Veterans Day) the committee offered a free concert held at
Hammock Bay and presented by local talents as a fund raiser and collected
donations towards the final monument to be added to the Veterans Monument
area, Fundraisers will be held throughout the next year to complete this last
addition to this area, it is called Walk of War and will feature bronze statues of
soldiers in the fields representing all branches of service.
Christmas decorations will be going up soon around the city and getting ready
for Christmas- the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade will be held this
year on Saturday, December 2, 2017 beginning at 4:45 PM, this is a trial for
changing the date to a Saturday instead of Friday, so please mark your
Tilman and many thanks go out to them for all their community efforts
The Annual Festival of Trees will also be open that weekend in the
Community Center and many thanks to all involved with the parade, tree
lighting and festival of trees. The city council had their regular meeting on
November 14th and this is the only meeting for the month as well as the
meeting scheduled for December 12th being the only meeting in December due
to the holidays. City Hall will be closed on
Nov23-27th.

To whom it may concern,
I, Michelle Helderman hired Michael E. Berkland DO. To perform an independent autopsy
and a DNA test to determine maternity for my son, Cody Helderman. Reason being my family
and I suspected he was switched at birth and I was given a stillborn to bury. Exactly, May 20,
2004, Dr. Berkland returned my call. He stated he wanted to help and would meet at my place
of residence to review my personal documents.
Oddly, on May 24, 2004, as a friend, Katrina Tohosky and I was about to get my files out of
my vehicle suddenly a shadowy white male chased us both into my house. 911 were called.
Deputy Flint arrived and made a report. Because of Deputy Flints behavior, I escorted him
off my property. It was very serious involving his gun. The white male was never identified.
On the morning of May 25, 2004, I hired Dr. Michael E. Berkland from Fort Walton Beach
Florida to exhume the remains of Cody Helderman from Parks Cemetery in Summerville ,
South Carolina ASAP. Before the meeting ended I was astounded while Deputy Flint walked
though my door, unannounced. He stared directly at Dr. Berkland and asked is everything
alright. Deputy Flint was aware of the meeting with Dr. Berkland and the principle. Katrina
Tohosky quickly led Flint out the same door he came through.
Dr. Berkland in turn, called his connection to validate there was indeed a Deputy Flint on the
police force. The reason being, he was not wearing a nametag. This concerned me.
Dr. Berkland confirmed it was John aka William Flint and he was a deputy, over the phone.
Following the meeting with Dr. Berkland, I received a call it was FLINT asking for me. I did
not want to talk to him. Katrina told him I was down the street. Afterwards Katrina went
home for a spell.
When everything calmed down Teia, my daughter was as serious as a heart attack when she
asked me to sit down; she had something to tell me. It has always been a mystery for years,
ever since Friday 13, March 1998. Teia wanted to tell what she saw and heard at the hospital
before Dave took her home. I listened and was in shambles. Later, Teia wrote a letter and
recorded her experience.
June 07, 2004 Dr. Berkland received a letter from the Parks Funeral Home in Summerville,
Sc. on the subject of the disinterment of Cody. I met Dr. Berkland in front of the Pensacola
Court House onBaylen St . The letter was addressed to Dr. Berland. I was told his name was
B-e-r-k-l-i-n by Dr. Nicholson, whom referred Dr. Berkland back in 2002. I questioned Dr.
Berkland about the spelling of his name. He stated, They can call me whatever they
wanted. insinuating, it was just a simple mistake, a typo. He was acting a little shifty and not
making much sense. The letter stated (both) parents of Cody Helderman needed to sign for
the disinterment, reinterment. Dr. Berkland was signifying me to get the father of the babys
signature by hook or by crook. With the risk that was involved by this exhumation of Cody, I
knew that getting the signature of the F.O.B. Wilber Davis Marsh Jr., A.K.A. Dave was
unthinkable. On the other hand, I looked-into the regulations and found that to be fictitious. I
did not need the signature of Dave after all. Accordingly, On June 18, 2004, I had the order
for disinterment signed for Parks Funeral Home in Summerville, Sc. with the aid of Bayview
Memorial of Pensacola Florida. Afterwards, I was waiting for the transit order to be signed
by a Judge.
My purpose is to get public awareness for my story and if someone has more information or
just wants to help, Ill appreciate it. If you want more information about my cold case, there

Thompson inducted into USM Hall of Fame

James H. Thompson, Ph.D., owner and CEO of Healthmark Re-

gional Medical Center, was recently inducted into the University
of Southern Mississippi Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony
was held at the Thad Cochran Center on the university campus in
Hattiesburg on Oct. 13, 2017.
For 53 years, James Thompson has owned, managed and devel-
oped hospitals, home health agencies, physician office practices
and durable medical equipment companies. He also has experi-
ence in consulting for teaching and non-teaching hospitals in the
public and private sectors.
Thompson has been extensively involved in the development of
facilities, including functional design, space programming, de-
partmental layouts, equipment specifications and construction
monitoring.
He is a 1958 graduate of Mississippi Southern College, with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administra-
tion. In addition, Thompson earned a masters degree in hospital administration and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Health Facilities Management.
Thompson is an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He served as Preceptor and Adjunct Professor for the education of graduate students in his profession. Thomp-
son also served as chairman of a school board (K-12), hospital boards, civic and industrial boards and a mental health association. He is also a U.S. Air Force veteran of the
Korean War.
Thompson is a Life Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives (LFACHE) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health (FRSH-England). In service to
The University of Southern Mississippi, Thompson has been a member of the Business Advisory Council for the College of Business, the Deans Council for the College
of Health and the Department of Athletics Circle of Champions. He also served as president of the USM Foundation and is a Presidents Circle member of the Founda-
tions Honor Club.
Thompson has been the recipient of many honors and awards for his leadership ability and accomplishments in management. Thompson is partially retired. He and wife,
Mary Margaret, reside in Milton, Florida.
