Objective(s): At the end of this lesson my students will be able to review facts about famous
astronomers they have researched. Students will work in groups to create a poster or Power
Point Presentation about a famous astronomer. Each group will research the history of a different
astronomer, present their findings to the class, and analyze scientific discoveries the astronomer
had made.

Resources/Materials List:
Research sheet
Scissors
Glue
Pencil
Markers/Crayons/Colored Pencils
Construction paper
Computer (for P.P.)

Procedure:
Tell students that we will be talking more today about some of the famous astronomers.
Ask the students: who knows what an astronomer is? Why are astronomers important?
Explain to students, to learn more in depth about famous astronomers we will do a
research project on some of the few important astronomers. We will group up, each
group focusing on a specific astronomer, gather all the essential information about the
assigned astronomers, and create a poster or Power Point about the person.
As a team, you will make a presentation about the astronomer you are assigned. On the
poster it must include pictures, information about the astronomers life, what they
are known for, and their discoveries. (Minimum of five index cards worth of
information with complete and full sentences.)
For homework, students will go home and find information about their astronomer. The
next day, students will join their groups and share the information they found and decide
which are the most important to write on their poster.
Students will follow the rubric and will be graded on neatness, organization, grammar,
spelling, creativity, most importantly content and presentation.
At the end of the week students will present the presentation to the class. The group will
teach the rest of the class about their astronomer.
Students will also take notes on everyone elses presentation. Gathering the vital
information, they learn as they will use those notes to study for their astronomers test.
Plans for differentiation:
Teacher will walk about the room and make sure everyone is correctly completing the posters. If
students are having a challenging time, guide them to where they can find the information,
whether it is online or in their text book. If students/a group needs further support they may stay
after school to work on the presentation where the teacher can focus more on their needs.

Assessment:
Students will follow a rubric to make sure the are following the right guideline for their project.
That same rubric will be used to grade their poster and presentation performance.

Plans for accommodation/modification: N/A
