Name of Article: Communication Disorders and Challenging Behaviors: Supporting Childrens

Functional Communication Goals in the Classroom
Author: Katy Gregg
Journal Name: Early Childhood Education Journal
Date of Article: July 2017
This article explores the challenging behaviors that children with communication
disorders face in social environments, such as the classroom. In this journal, the author explores
the social and behavioral challenges of two children, Olivia and Jacob, who have speech and
language impairments. While exploring the difficulties these children face in the classroom, the
author also develops strategies that will increase social communication for these children, and
hopefully decrease the behavioral issues, as well. The strategies include collaboration with
parents, teachers, and service providers, individualized communication modifications, and peer
support. After integrating these strategies in the classroom, Olivia and Jacob both improved their
communication skills, which lead to a decrease in challenging behaviors. In conclusion, finding
the appropriate communication techniques and strategies for a child with a speech or language
impairment will exponentially decrease their behavioral issues in the classroom.

Title of Article: Classdojo.com: The Effects of a Digital Classroom Management Program

Author: Wilson, Rhiannon Mechelle.
Year: 2017

Classroom management is a major concern for the majority of teachers. The concern is
teachers spend more time trying to control behavioral issues in the classroom than actually
teaching, and studies have shown that it is one of the most prevalent causes of teacher burnouts.
In order to aid teachers in the management of their classrooms, this dissertation focuses on the
effects of teachers using a digital program called classdojo.com. Classdojo.com is a digital
application that allows students to monitor their own behavior and track their progress by
looking at an avatar of themselves projected on the board. If the student engages in positive
behavior, the teacher rewards them by giving them feedback points digitally. There were many
benefits to ClassDojo.com because it increased the feedback loop between students and teaches,
and it gave immediate feedback to students individually.

Name of Article: The HOT new yoga

Author: Emerick, Jaclyn
Magazine
Year: 2016
There is a new hot yoga workout that has many fitness fanatics raving about, according to author
Jaclyn Emerick. This new work is not like your average Zen yoga class! It incorporates a
Brazilian martial art Capoeira with yoga, and the outcome is a workout that blows your mind. It
includes the stretch and strengthening poses of yoga and the dance-like movements of Capoeira.
These two collaborations complement each other because yoga is linear, meaning moving
forward and backward and up and down and Capoeira is curvilinear, meaning there are
movements of twists, turns, and circles. These two styles of fitness joined together keeps the
person working out in constant motion. The end result is a workout that is a high intensity body
sculpting and fat burning routine.
