Google

Google, the search engine of the world, started off as a research project in 1995 by two

doctoral students at Stanford University. Google started off as a project and turned into a

company that trajectory has always been up. Google has grown exponential, professional and

technologically, it has definitely grown over the years. Google has been at the one of the the

leaders of innovation for years.

Google is all about teamwork and collaboration which makes them so effective

professionally. Google has branched out a plethora of times and dabbled in philanthropy and

NASA. Googles climate allows for employees to be creative and feel good about themselves, all

while still offering incentives such as; gaming areas, painting, and learning instruments. Google

loves to hire people to likes to have fun, know about the company, strong measure of

conscientiousness, people who want to lead, and people with high cognitive ability. Google also

seeks out diversity, Google wants diversity. The climate of Google incorporates very high

standards for themselves and for their employees. The environment at Google is professional yet,

fun.

Not only does Google represent professionalism in their company but they also represent

academics. Google has relationships with universities all over the country and some of the top

universities in the country are included in that list. They have helped fund hundreds of professors
in marketing based research. Not only do they fund professors but they offer a variety of apps

and helpful electronic tools to the public for academic purposes such as Google classroom.

To work at google a varied amount of education is needed. An opening at Google is highly

sought after. Most of the employees at google have some sort of college degree but that isnt

their only criteria. Academics is very important to Google. For the most part to get a job at

Google, you must be very academically sound. According to Abigail Hess from CNBC out of all

the tech giants Google has the highest number of employees with a Ph.D. (Hess). 16.2 percent

of employees at Google have their Ph.D. While it is possible to get a job at Google without a

Degree, it is clear that a degree would be very helpful. Clearly while trying to get a job at Google

academics is taken into account.

Google offers its employees many different ways to further educate themselves. Google

actually has a program where they offer classes through the company. Google believes it is

important for all employees to work together so their educational opportunities are a way to do

that. The classes arent taught by professors but instead are taught by other employees who are

well versed in the chosen topic. Adam Green calls this program Googler to Googler (Kessler)

or Employee-to-Employee learning. They also offer classes that are taught by educational

professionals but according to their date Employee-to-Employee learning has yielded the same

results as the classes taught by education professionals.

Not all the classes that employees are able to take relate just to their job. A class that

Adam Green teachers to his fellow employees is part of the Google core curriculum, which

includes courses on management, orientation and skills such as public speaking (Kessler).

Google believes that it is very important to have a well-rounded academic career. That is why

they offer social classes to engineers. Google doesnt just offer classes to help their employees to
be more well-rounded but they also offer classes in the employees specific field of work. Lately

they have been shifting to more of the academics that are field specific. In relation to Pace,

Google clearly represents academics very well in every aspect.

In an ever growing and connected world, it is more important than ever for one of the

largest industries of todays society, technology, to be dedicated to being culturally competent

and inclusive. Google exemplifies this by ensuring benefits to their employees, encouraging

Googlers to celebrate diversity and inclusion, and empowering those to address unconscious

bias.

In a world where our personal life has a way of catching up with us and interfering with

our daily tasks, Google recognizes this. One way they have chosen to treat this is by serving their

employees and providing them with benefits to meet their needs. Google has many on-site

amenities tailored toward support for growth within an employees family, including parental

leave, retirement savings plans, and death benefits. Healthcare services, fitness centers, and

vacation are all small ways Google allows the employee to feel comfortable within the

workplace.

Google has made efforts to create a Diversity Core program. This is a program designed

to give Google employees time to work on side projects and create support groups within the

corporation. There are currently 20+ resource groups for employees to connect with to thrive in

with people of similar interests or backgrounds. Some include: Google Veterans Network,

Women@Google, Asian Google Network, and Gayglers. These are only a few among the many

different groups in existence within the company.

In 2013, Google started talking about unconscious bias and how it can lead to more

conscious decision making. Now, over 74% of Google employees receive training on it.
Managers receive more detailed training and there is now a program designed to help educate

people on unbiasing. Google states, ...now, anyone from any industry can create unbiasing

trainings for their team.

Google has made multiple efforts to give back to the community and get engaged. One of

their many company goals is to make information accessible to everyone in the world that way

no one is left out of the constantly changing world. They are constantly looking to improve and

get active within the community. One of Googles awards include being the Happiest Company

in America which shows they care about their employees (Manning).

When Google was asked why it is crucial to be a caring company, Chief People Officer

Laszlo Bock stated, It turns out that the reason were doing these things for employees is not

because its important to the business, but simply because its the right thing to do. (Caroline).

Google is a company that thinks about people first and business second. Along with this its the

right thing to do attitude, they announced that it will run on one hundred percent renewable

energy by the end of the year (Cohen). This shows that Google not only cares about people, but

is willing to get involved in a greener way. This involvement in going completely green with

energy shows what kind of company google really is.

Google is also looking out for small business in forms of advertising. They are launching

a service called engagement ads where small businesses can promote their company across

global google pages to help get their company recognized (Purple Goldfish.com). They have

many programs based on getting involved with the community. Google is a fantastic company

that gets involved with the community.

Google also has a highly rated twenty four hour seven days a week customer service

calling center that is happy and willing to help with any problems related to google and their
services. Google also has a service called Google Giving which is where any employee can

start a group to help with any organization or something that they have a passion about. It is a

nonprofit service which focus is to help out in any way they can.

These are just some of the activities Google is doing to help be apart of something bigger

and get involved in the community. Google is a people company who thinks about the customer

first and is always willing to help out. Google is a perfect example for a PACE business. It

exceeds all expectations as far as professionalism, academics, character, and engagement with

its many services and caring company mission statement.
