PROJECT R&D+I

TITLE
IBEROMARE / NOVOMAR - MULTIPOLAR CENTER FOR VALUING MARINE RESOURCES

HIGHLIGHTS
Creation of a Multi-polar Center for the valorization of marine resources

ABSTRACT
The IBEROMARE project aimed at creating an interregional competitive capacity based on the
creation of a Multipolar Center for the Valorization of Marine Resources and Waste, which
functions as a specialized R&D network for industries connected to the Sea sector, with the
capacity to present proposals for the valorization of marine, river and marine biological resources
and waste / industrial by-products resulting from fish and shellfish food processing and
aquaculture residues, resulting in high added value products with applicability in several
technological areas, with emphasis on the biomedical industry, Pharmaceutical and food industries.
In more specific terms, the IBEROMARE project had as its objective: a) increase the added value of
natural resources of marine origin, allowing the continued exploitation of these resources in a
sustainable and economically viable way; b) foster R & D activities to strengthen the
competitiveness of border areas; d) organize a set of public actions to disseminate the generated
knowledge. The objective of NOVOMAR project was to consolidate the Multipolar Center created
in the previous IBEROMARE project, which aims to find alternatives for the valorization of marine
resources and waste from the fishing industry, aquaculture and food (fish processing and algae).
The actions included: a) applications for various sectors from resources and by-products of marine
origin; b) consolidation of the Multipolar Center (including the inclusion of new partners, leading
to the establishment of an understanding protocol for collaboration and the development of an
electronic platform that includes a challenge driven innovation platform); c) Coordination,
Management and Monitoring of the Project; d) communication and Dissemination.
