Juche
Juche is a political philosophy Kim Jong Il adopted to unify his people in
opposition to all things foreign, especially during hard times such as famine
and poor economy.

Juche means self-reliance and to the North Korean people this is a form of
national pride

The Juche idea is based on the philosophical principle that man is the
master of everything and decides everything according to the DPRK
(Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea)
Where is Korea?
Some History
When Japan was defeated in World War 2 its hold on
Korea was disestablished and the North part of Korea
was taken control of by the Soviets who established
Communism, and the south was taken hold of by
American Forces.
Extended History
Since the split of the
Koreas, North Korea has
become extremely
isolated. The leaders of
North Korea have been
Kim Il Song, Kim Jong Il
and now recently Kim
Jong Un.

Government & Politics
Kim Jong Un is an absolute dictator

- He is worshipped by his people

- The state controls the media and radio that is filtered and overloaded with

propaganda. There is not internet and cellphones are banned

- When outsiders are allowed in they are given a strict schedule and shown

only parts the government wants them to see.

Prison Camps
Prisoners do hard labour which includes coal mining, field work, logging and
factory work, with poor-unsafe conditions.

Torture is involves constant beatings, burning, thrashings, and other more

gruesome methods

- Camp 22 (and others) is a family camp,

which hold people who have not committed
crimes themselves but have family members
who have. Including extended family.
- I remember seeing kids fighting over a corn kernel they found
inside cow dung. A cow had eaten corn, and the
children eventually washed it in the water and ate it.
-Ahn Myong Chol (defected officer from Camp 22)
