Song head, shoulders, knees and toes Lesson Reflection

Select (S):
The lesson I taught today was a song but it can be a lesson about the human body parts, the song introduce
the body parts to students such as; head, shoulders, knees, toes, eyes, ears, mouth, and nose. Students was
able to meet my standards, they were able to identify body parts, to copy & demonstrate the movement, and
to recognize body parts.

Describe (D):
The lesson was for 4-5 years old students in KG2 & it take place in Al Darari Kindergarten. What I was
trying to achieve is letting the students identify the body parts and to let them know what does each part
called in English. The students did draw themselves, they color a human girl/ boy, and they matched the
word with the picture body parts matching.

Analyze (A):
The lesson was in between were some students was able to understand what I meant by body parts and other
didnt, but most of them was able to understand the meaning of what I said when I started pointing at the
body parts for example I would say the word nose and point on my nose, that way the students was able to
develop an understanding of a second language which is English, by connecting what they heard and what
did I point at, also it was simpler when I point at the body part with saying the word in Arabic and English,
they connected the meaning of it name for example the word head in Arabic we call it ras and so on.
Students was able to connect their prior knowledge with the lesson when I start saying the names in Arabic
and English, students was well engaged because they showed me their excitement while singing, dancing
and drawing themselves. At the activity were I asked the low students to draw themselves, most of the
students wanted to do that so I let them do it after they finish their activity.

Appraise (A):
Students at first were lost to hear the new words, they were used to taking sounds and letters, but on this
lesson were talking about the body parts, after a short while students was able to connect their prior
knowledge with what I was saying, and at the end of the lesson I could see that they were enjoying it when
they understand it, as teachers who teach native language we must not expect the students to understand
what were saying, we must understand that its like a whole new world to them, they will look lost very
lost when we teach them in a language they dont know, so when we teach students native languages I would
recommend us teacher to not force the students to say or speak in other language instead we should make
sure that our students acquire rather than learn the language, because when they acquire it, the language
itself will take a place in their daily life and it would be easier for them to communicate with others, but
when they learn a language its hard to say a full correct sentence. By the end of the lesson I met my teaching
goals and the students did develop an understanding of the words meaning in English and Arabic.

Transform (T):
In the future I might keep my lesson the same I would just add pictures of the body parts in the beginning
to make it easier. For every lesson we must focus on eye contact with each students, and make sure that all
of the students with different levels participate during the lesson.
