In Our Class…

In Mr. Dills’ science class, students will engage in and explore a variety of scientific content that is appropriate for their grade and developmental levels. We utilize the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to guide instruction in our school with emphasis on cross-curricular connections, so students continue to develop reading, writing, and math skills.

Students are allowed to engage the material from where they are – We tap into their prior knowledge and allow them to make connections between their personal lives and the content, thus proving the even the seemingly most obscure content can still have personal connections for our learners. Because of this, students are able to construct an understanding of the natural world that is meaningful to them. They are able to engage in deep learning and respond in thoughtful, educated, and scientific ways.

In our class, all students are scientists!

So Far…

Students have begun to learn about the environment and the ecological systems in place. Students are moving into a phase where they can discuss the human body and how the systems at work within it function, which will set the stage for a discussion about how we interact with our environment as humans.
