What is culture?
The 4 Cs framework: content, communication, cognition, culture.
Developmental model of intercultural sensitivity (DMIS).

UNIT 2:

Only one cultura and one language?


English as lingua franca
Meanings of: multiculturalism, pluri-cultural, socio-cultural and intercultural.

UNIT 3:

History and culture of English speaking countries.


Cultural competence in the English classroom.
Methodology and activities to develop cultural awareness in the lessons.

UNIT 4:

Intercultural understanding projects.


Ideas and practical resources to promote teaching culture in the classrooms.

SUBJECT GUIDANCE

The teacher will:

make oral presentations in class;


propose questions for debate or discussion;
carry out online tutorials to answer students questions, doubts, etc.

The students are expected to participate:

in class: answering questions, participating in debates or discussions, join in the activities


at home: preparing the activities assigned by the teacher, participate in the forums and
study.

Final test: 40%


Project: 50%
Participation: 10%

PARTICIPATION (it can be achieved by participating in the online sessions or in the forum) :

Answer the questions from the teacher.


Participate in an active way.
Reflect and write your thoughts down in the available forum (ONCE IS ENOUGH).
Forum deadline: Wednesday 31st May 2017

PROJECT

Create a PowerPoint presentation to teach your students in the bilingual programme socio-
cultural aspects about a English speaking countries (20-50 slides).
You will check some examples in our four lessons.
Upload it to the platform.

Deadline: 31st May 2017

FINAL TEST:

Online multiple choice test with questions about the four lessons.
To be completed once the lessons have finished.
The exam will be available from June 13th -16th .
You can take the exam one or two times. If you decide to take the exam twice, you final
mark will be the average of the grades obtained in those 2 attempts.

CONTINUOUS EVALUATION:

Grammar and vocabulary accuracy


Adequacy of points made
Use of creative ideas and personal thoughts
Adequacy of answer
Spelling and punctuation
Clarity of ideas and their organization
Adjustment to deadline and extension
