What is Tungsten Disulfide?

Posted on October 28, 2014

When it comes to industrial coatings, nothing compares to Tungsten Disulfide. Also known as WS2,
tungsten disulfide is a thin, dry film lubricant coating, and is known to be one of the most lubricious
materials in the world.

Why is Tungsten Disulfide the Best Choice for Industrial Lubricating Coatings?
The main aspect that sets WS2 apart from other coatings is its coefficient of friction. In dynamic
applications, the coefficient is rated at 0.07, and in static applications, the coefficient can be as low as
0.03. The reason for this is the lubricants overall structure.

The coating consists of a hollow sphere that is layered with hexagonal crystals. These crystal clusters
are formed by networks with S-W-S molecules. The molecule layers are linked to a binding force
called Van de Walls Force, which sets up tungsten disulfides low friction factor. Continue

Why Tungsten Disulfide is the Leading Choice Among

Industrial Lubricants
Posted on August 26, 2014
Are you looking for a dry film lubricant to protect your components against friction, wear and
corrosion? Are you finding it difficult to choose from the range of lubricants available in the market?
Well, the answer is extremely simple. The best dry film lubricant for your industrial applications is
tungsten disulfide.

Also known as WS2, tungsten disulfide is a slick, dry film lubricant coating, and it is known to
provide a low co-efficient of 0.03. It is also chosen for its incomparable properties such as long wear
life, high load rating, low drag, non-sticking, and lubricity. WS2 has the capability to take loads of up
to 300,000 PSI. This is higher than any other lubricant including Molybdenum Disulfide, Teflon, and
Graphite. Continue reading

How to Coat a Part using Tungsten Disulphide

Posted on July 14, 2014
Tungsten disulphide or WS2 as it is called; is a synthetic powder that is often converted into and used
as a lubricant. Various elements present in the powder such as hexagonal crystal clusters and lamellar
lattice structure create a certain amount of friction. This makes tungsten disulphide a very lubricious
material, and thus a perfect solution when it comes to applying protective coatings on various
products.

There are many types of processes used to apply a coating of tungsten disulphide:Continue

Why is Molybdenum Disulfide the First Choice among

Industrial Lubricants?
Posted on July 7, 2014
Industrial lubricants can be seen as one of the main factors for increasing the lifespan of a
component. They are used to protect machinery from excessive friction, reduce energy loss, and
enhance a machines overall performance. There are various types of dry and synthetic lubricants
being used in industries today. One of the most well-known lubricants is molybdenum disulfide.

Molybdenum disulfide is a dry, solid film lubricant. Also known as MoS2, it can be used in
applications where there are extreme changes in temperature, with great weight loads and high
speeds. It has the ability to maintain its basic structure and strength while reducing considerable
friction within the machine. When combined with resins or binders, it has the capability to protect a
component from corrosion. Continue reading

Molybdenum Disulfide Paving the way for Future

Electronic and Thermal Devices
Posted on June 23, 2014
Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) is widely known for its excellent lubricating properties. It has a low
co-efficient of friction. It has the ability to operate in a variety of temperatures up to 600oF. When
combined with resigns or binders, molybdenum disulfide can also be very effective in preventing
corrosion.

The versatility of this coating has made MoS2 a popular choice among research facilities for
experiments to find more conducive coatings. Recently, such a breakthrough was reached at Kansas
State University. Continue reading

An Overview of Molybdenum Disulfide as Dry

Lubricant for Coating
Posted on June 11, 2014
Are you tired of using messy, oily coating lubricants that are hard to apply? Well, then you can turn
to a technologically advanced and highly effective alternative: the Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2/
Moly) dry lubricant. One of the most widely used lubricant of this type; MoS2 plays an important
role in providing exceptional resistance against corrosion to industrial as well as domestic products.
What are the benefits of using Molybdenum Disulfide for dry coating?
MoS2 is an immensely high performing dry lubricant, thanks to its effective particle size range (1 to
100m) and a very low friction coefficient ( 0.1). While flowing/ moving lubricants cause high
friction, loss of energy, and below-par performance, MoS2 provides excellent coating to a product
for durability and resistance to wear. Continue reading

What are the Different Types of Coating

Posted on May 30, 2014
Coating is a technique that involves applying a material (usually in a lubricant form) on to a surface
for increased aesthetic appeal and protection against contamination, corrosion, and oxidation. , This
process helps in enhancing the durability of the product.

Based on the applications, coating can be:

Industrial
Commercial
Architectural
Special Purpose
Various materials are used for the purpose of coating a particular object. Similarly, the technique of
coating differs too based on the type of object, what material it is made from, and what the final
applications of the object will be. Here, we will have a look at 3 main types of coating. Continue

Taking Inspiration from Nature to Create New

Protective Coating Solutions
Posted on May 23, 2014
Nature has always been a huge inspiration for some of the worlds greatest inventions. Now Nature
has lent another helping hand in inspiring the creation of a new protective coating at Harvard
University.

Taking a Tip from Mother Nature

Many plant leaves are naturally capable of repelling liquids. Commonly known examples are rose
petals, lotus leaves, and rice leaves. One plant that caught the attention of Harvard scientists is the
tropical plant Nepenthes. Commonly known as the pitcher plant, Nepenthes is a carnivorous plant
usually found in countries like Malaysia and Australia. What makes this plant different amongst
others is that it has a unique ability to create a near frictionless surface. It is also has immense self
healing capabilities.

The Need & the Solution

There has been a need to create a protective coating that prevents the formation of bacteria,
corrosion, and natural substances like ice on vital industrial instruments. The scientists at Harvard
were able to create a transparent coating that emulates the frictionless surface of the pitcher plant.
