A CHANGE OF

PLAN
CHANGING MY SONG
REFLECTION
As time goes on, the impending production stage grows closer and closer. In between
researching and beginning to make key planning decisions, Ive had a lot of time to reflect upon
all of the choices I have made, including the song choice I have worked with until this point.
Through the research I have been conducting, as well as the new direction I feel that this
product is taking, I feel that the song choice is not as fitting as it once was.

Firstly, it is clear for me after looking into photographers like Petra Collins, and musicians and
artists like Grimes, that I want strong links and references to femininity throughout my full
promotional package. This intimate, romantic, yet surreal, and empowering representation of
women would of course be best achieved by a female artist. A male voice over a feminine video
allows for a contradiction in messages, and I want to avoid this.

Also, as previously mentioned, at 4:12, this is a really really long amount of time to fill with
interesting and visually entertaining content. A much shorter song time would be preferable.
Keeping timing in mind, When You Sleep is a very high tempo song, and I feel that the visuals I
am aiming to produce as well as the actual exposition of the video, or lack thereof, would be
better suited to something a little more mellow and slow.
A CHANGE OF PLAN?

My research and planning up until this point still very much represent that
which I want to produce, and the whole package aesthetic will remain the
same, there will simply be a change in song, and genre.

I have chosen not to use my original second choice of song, How Long Have
You Known by DIIV, as this still presents many of the issues previously
mentioned.
A NEW CHOICE
My new song choice is Cupid by Alexandra Savior. She is a young female artist who
has recently released her debut album Belladonna of Sadness. Her music fits into the
genres of dream pop, and indie pop, and is very ethereal and romantic as well as soft,
and feminine in style.

Cupid is one of the most romantic songs from the album, and it also has the benefit
of a more reasonable 2:48 track length. The dreamy instrumentals paired with
laidback, almost swing-y, vulnerability of the vocals and of course a delicate and
loving set of lyrics, really make this song the ultimate choice for my music video and
the ideas I have.

This song also has its release date on its side- it is much more plausible to promote a
song and album from this year than it is for a song from 1992. Saviors fanbase will
be on the up and up, and the album is very new. Promoting this will be far more
accessible for me.
