I. Section: General

1 Scope, jurisdiction, purpose

(1) These regulations govern the requirements, the procedures and institutions of the
examination in the international and interdisciplinary Master's program Commercial
Vehicle Technology (CVT). In addition to this order there is a module handbook for
orientation and planning of studies. It is not part of this order.

(2) The master's degree is an academic degree program, leading to a further

qualifying academic degree. It has to convey the objective scientific basis, technical
and methodological expertise and career-related skills. It is a bilingual (German /
English) Program.

(3) The master's examination is to determine whether the student has acquired in-
depth knowledge, overlooks the scientific foundations and correlations of the field
Nutzfahrzeugtechnik, has the ability to solve scientific problems in the field of
technology commercially used vehicles independently, the importance to evaluate
new scientific knowledge for professional practice and critical and responsible
manner with the acquired knowledge in an international context.

(4) Due to the Master's examination, the Technical University of Kaiserslautern gives
the academic degree Master of Science, abbreviated "M.Sc." by the competent audit
committee.

2 Admission Requirements

(1) Requirement for the Master's degree course Commercial Vehicle Technology
(CVT) of the University of Kaiserslautern is a completed bachelor, master or diploma
in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related
subject at a German university. Graduates of foreign universities may be admitted to
the master program when the local degree program corresponds to the type and
scope at least a bachelor's degree of the above mentioned disciplines. Applicants
must present skills of German language level A2 additionally. This is demonstrated

2
by an examination at a testing point of the Goethe Institute or an equivalent test site.
The equivalence is checked by the VKB e.V., resident at the University of
Kaiserslautern.

(2) About the access to the Master's program will be decided for each each candidate
as part of an aptitude test. The assessment procedure is set out in Annex 1. About
the access Audit Committee decides. The implementation of the aptitude test can be
transmitted to the office of the Graduate School CVT by the Audit Committee.

3 Admission to the Master examination

(1) The application for admission to the Masters examination must be submitted to
the chairperson of the Audit Committee before registration for the first examination.

The Audit Committee decides on the admission. The admission is granted if the
student is properly enrolled in the degree course and not granted leave.

4 Beginning and normal period

(1) The program begins only in the winter semester. The standard period of study is 4
semesters.

(2) For the sake of compliance with the standard period of study, the study is
designed so that all examinations can be secured until the end of the 4th semester.

5 Structure of the program, the Master's examination

(1) The course is divided into modules. Modules consist of one or more thematically
and temporally coordinated, self-contained classes (for example lectures, practicals,
seminars, laboratory work, field trips, exercises) and are usually completed by a
module examination. The contents of the study program belonging modules are listed
in the Annex 2.

(2) For each passed module examination Credit points (CP) are awarded, which
approximates work load, which is usually needed by the students for the visit of all
courses of this module, the preparation and review of the curriculum, any required
purchase of credits, exam preparation and passing the module examination. The
criteria for allocating credit points correspond to the European Credit Transfer and
Accumulation System (ECTS).

3
(3) The master examination includes achievements in the amount of at least 120 LP
and consists of
1. Compulsory and elective modules totaling at least 80 LP, of which at least 60
credits are graded (see Appendix 2),
2. The project work within the scope of 10 credits,
3. The master thesis including Colloquium of 30 LP.
The compulsory and elective modules are to be chosen so that the required number
of credits in accordance with the individual test areas in 5 (5) per subject area by
more than one module is exceeded. The credits over 120 credits must be shown in
the certificate and to be considered in the average grade.

(4) The audit committee of the Graduate School ( 9) determines the curriculum and
the organization of examinations in consultation with the departments involved.

(5) The Master's program is divided into the following examination areas:
1. in the first two semesters compulsory modules (content see Appendix 2) from the
chairs of Mechanical Engineering in the amount of at least 16 LP, Computer Science
equaling at least 16 LP, Electrical Engineering equaling at least 5 LP.
2. The elective modules of the teaching area Social Sciences totaling at least 10
credits (see Appendix 2) can be freely selected from the range catalog of Social
Sciences. The 10 LP set for each student individually according to his or her choice
of courses and to ensure credit points (these are outlined in detail in the individual
curriculum scheme signed by the mentor). The credits are to be acquired in the first
three semesters. Foreign students can acquire alternatively a maximum amount of 6
credits by passing the DSH exam.
3. There are to choose at least 25 credits as electives as follows: Mechanical
Engineering equaling at least 8 LP, Computer Science equaling at least 8 LP,
Electrical Engineering amounting to at least 9 LP.
4. In preparation of project work and master thesis elective modules about scientific
working and publishing have tob e taken amounting to at least 8 LP. These lectures
can be chosen from any modules of all four participating departments.

(6) In order to compensate differences in prior knowledge, compulsory modules of up

to 10 credits can be replaced by other modules from the range of subjects of the
participating engineering disciplines. This is done with prior consultation and approval
by the mentor ( 9 paragraph 4).

(7) Up to 20 credits from the field of electives can be provided in the third semester
as part of a semester abroad. The relevant subjects at the foreign university will be
established in consultation with the mentor. This serves to acquire students
international experience in the field of commercial vehicle technology. If the mentor
notices that the student already has international experience, a semester abroad
shall not be provided.

4
(8) The project work shall be written in the third semester. It is to be provided by the
students who complete a semester abroad, as part of the semester abroad.
Otherwise, the project work is to be done in the German industry. The project must
be approved by the mentor and is supervised and assessed by a professor and his
assistant. Additionally it is supervised by authorized persons in industry.
The project work has to be registered like the master's thesis at the Department of
Examinations. Registration can take place only if the approval of mentor or mentor is
submitted.

(9) The Master's thesis shall be written in the fourth semester.

6
Module examinations

(1) The contents of module examinations are listed in the Annex 2. The examinations
are knowledge- and skills-oriented. A module examination consists generally of one
examination. It generally finalises the module. In exceptional cases, a module
examination consists partial examinations.

(2) The module examinations can be taken in the form of oral examinations, written
examinations and other written performance or practical examinations. The
announcement of the nature of the examinations of each module must be carried out
as a rule before the registration deadline on the Internet portal of the Graduate
School CVT.

(3) The faculty of the department that offers the module decides which course work
(for example, exercises, midterm exams) are to be provided as a prerequisite. If
students fail the modular exam, the examination requirements must not be repeated,
the authorization in respect of the examination requirements for testing is also
maintained in subsequent semesters.

(4) The duration of a module examination is determined by the volume of the module.
Written examinations have generally a period of 10 - 30 minutes per LP, but at least
a minimum of one hour and a maximum of four hours. Oral examinations have
generally a period of 3 - 10 minutes per LP, but at least a minimum of 15 minutes and
a maximum of 60 minutes.

(5) Written tests are provided in the language of the corresponding course. For
processing it may be accepted by the examiner in German or English. Oral
examinations can be carried out at the request of the candidate, the examination in
question and answer in English or German.

(6) The module examinations are administered by examiners according to 10th

5
7
Accreditation of examinations and coursework

(1) Achievements acquired at an university are generally recognized. This does not
apply if substantial differences in acquired competences exist. For non-recognition,
the reasons must be communicated to the students. The University is responsible for
the evidence, that she has to explain the reasons to the students. During the
recognition there have to be observed the agreements approved by the Standing
Conference (KMK) and the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) as well as
agreements in the context of university cooperation agreements.

(2) Paragraph 1 applies accordingly to periods of study, examinations and

coursework in state-approved distance learning, for multimedia-supported or
provided by early student examinations and coursework. Paragraph 1 also applies to
examinations and coursework at other educational institutions, especially at state or
state-recognized professional academies, technical experts and engineering schools
and officer colleges the former German Democratic Republic.

(3) Outside the university area acquired equivalent knowledge and skills are
recognized maximum up to half of university studies at the request.

(4) Achievements that meet the deliverables only in parts, should be taken into
account as far as possible. In such a case, the Audit Committee shall determine what
services are to be provided in any form, within what period and with what repeat
options (recognition requirements).

(5) Failed examinations or examination-relevant coursework in the same course at

another university are to be counted as failures on the allowable number of retests.
Further to be counted as failures are failed examinations or examination-relevant
coursework in the same modules or test areas of another degree program at a
university other than those for which the existence of equal or lower demands are
made.

(6) Insofar as the grading systems are comparable one shall proceed as follows: In
examinations and coursework recognized grades are accepted and included in the
calculation of intermediate grades and the overall grade. For non-comparable
grading systems, the remark "passed" is taken. In the certification an indication of the
recognition is stated.

(7) Students must submit the necessary documents for recognition before admission
to the course together with the registration or approval application or the request for
change of subject of the Division of Student Affairs. The recognition of achievements

6
in technical related studies are carried out on its own initiative, to other courses on
request.

8 Concerns of students with disabilities, Change Compensation

(1) Disabled students can be granted a disadvantage compensation in the form of

additional labor and utilities to achieve equal opportunities. This applies to those
disabilities that are outside the skills to be determined by the respective examination
and may adversely affect the examination result. Constitutional or otherwise suffering
lasting for indefinite period, and rooted in the personality of the candidate are not
considered, as they relate to the by the examination to be ascertained performance.
Achieving equal opportunities, for example, processing times can be extended as
appropriate or to pass the exam in another form to be approved. The disability is to
make credible. The university may require that the substantiation is done by a
medical certificate. For the disadvantage compensation a written application has to
be made addressed to the Department of Examinations, which makes a proposal to
the audit committee. The committee will decide. The application should be submitted
no later than the application for enrollment.

request as a listener if the student to be examined did not refuse this when
submitting the application for admission to the examination. The examiners decide on
such applications, which must be available no later than two weeks before the
examination by the competent department for examination matters. If the proper
conduct of audit risk, the listeners may be excluded during the examination. The
listener must not be present at the consultation and the announcement of the
examination results.

(7) On the request of the student, the commissioner for gender equality may be
present in oral examinations.

(8) If the oral examination is taken and evaluated by two examiners, the grade is
calculated from the arithmetic mean of the two reviews, which is rounded to the next
grade stage.

14
Written module examinations and written tests

(1) Within the written module examination the student should demonstrate that he or
she is able to edit an object field of the test area with the known methods in limited
time. Tools can thereby be allowed. The list of tools is set by the examiner and
announced together with the announcement of the exam date. Written examinations
will be stored in the form of written examinations (paragraph 2) or other forms of
examination.

(2) In an exam, one or more tasks asked by the examiner are to be processed under
supervision.

(3) The review of a written module examination is carried out by an examiner. If the
student fails in a last possible attempt, a second examiner must be consulted. The
vote can be changed in this case, at best, passed (grade 4.0). If both examiner do
not agree, a third examiner should be involved. The rating is then changed to pass
(grade 4.0), if at least two of the examiners make this vote. The duration of the
evaluation process, including the announcement of the examination results should
not exceed four weeks.

11
15
Master's Thesis

(1) The Masters thesis is an examination. It should demonstrate that a candidate is

able independently to solve in a limited time a scientific problem using scientific
methods under scientific guidance, to represent the results understandable in writing
and can explain results in a lecture (colloquium).

(2) It is a prerequisite for the topics issue that a candidate has achieved at least 82
credit points in the Master's program.

(3) The topic of the thesis given by the supervisor is announced to the candidate by
the Department of Examinations. The date of issue is to be recorded for auditing
matters at the department. The date of issue must be fixed at least in the following
semester after passing all other examinations or courseworks.

(4) The subject is to be limited on a pure processing time less than six months. The
period from the issue to the submission of written thesis work must not exceed six
months. An extension of the processing time up to three months is possible with a
substantiated request to the Department of Examinations. The Audit Committee or
the Chairman shall decide on the request. After the submission of the written thesis
work the candidate presents the thesis in consultation with the in a colloquium.

(5) The candidate may refuse a topic only once and only within the first four weeks of
processing time at the Department of Examinations.

(6) The Master Thesis shall be submitted in accordance with the Department of
Examinations, where the submission date is indicated on the work. After submission
it is to pass to the supervisor and a second examiner for assessment. If the
submission of the Master thesis is not in time it shall be rated as unsatisfactory (5.0).
The review procedure should not exceed six weeks.

(7) The Master's Thesis is issued and supervised by a habilitated scientist or a

professor or a junior professor or an associate professor of one of the participating
engineering disciplines. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, a second
supervisor or another supervisor from another of the departments concerned may be
involved. The assessment and weighting follows 17.

(8) An "insufficient" or rated as failed master thesis can be repeated with a new task
once. The topic of the thesis must be issued no later than within one month after
notification of the failure of the master's thesis. A rejection of the topic of the thesis in
the prescribed time limit is only permitted if the a candidate has made no use of

12
rejection during the preparation of the first thesis. A second repetition of the Master
thesis is excluded.

16
Additional Subjects

(1) The taking of non-compulsory coursework and examinations (additional subjects)

is possible. This additional performance tests may be registered at the oral request of
the candidate, according to the Grading (bill) in the testimony. However, they will not
count for the final grade.

(2) The process for the performance review of study modules outside the
participating departments (mechanical and process engineering, electrical
engineering and information technology, computer science and social sciences)
regulates the competent department.

IV. Section:. Review of module examinations and coursework

17
Grading of examinations and courseworks

(1) For the assessment of individual examinations and coursework (unless they
are graded) are to use the following scores:

1.0; 1.3 = very good = an outstanding performance,

1.7; 2.0; 2.3 = good = a performance that is considerably above the average
requirements,
2.7; 3.0; 3.3 = satisfactory = a performance that corresponds to average
requirements,
3.7; 4.0 = sufficient = a performance that is sufficient, despite its shortcomings still
satisfy the requirements,
5.0 = not sufficient = a performance that does not meet the requirements due to
significant deficiencies.

(2) The grade of the module examination is calculated as the arithmetic mean
value weighted with the number of associated credits. In the calculation of the
module grade only the first decimal place is taken into account after the decimal
point. All other places are deleted without rounding. The grade for the module
examination is:

very good up to 1.5,

13
well over 1.5 to 2.5,
satisfying over 2.5 to 3.5,
sufficiently over 3.5 to 4.0,
insufficient over 4.0.

To calculate the score for the thesis out of the individual grades of the two
examiners Grading code of (1) applies. The grade is calculated from the arithmetic
mean of the two reviews, which is rounded to the next grade stage.

18
Deadlines for module examinations and repetition of study modules

(1) Each module examination must be offered at least twice a year.

(2) Each module examination must be registered for the first time at the latest in
the 4th semester. If this deadline is missed, the candidate has the opportunity to
register within two semesters. If this is not the case, the missed examinations are
considered as failed.

(3) The distance between a module examination and its repetition has to be at
least one month. In oral examinations, the examiner shall make an appointment
with the Department of Examinations for the date of next attempt with at least
fourteen days before the examination date. The repetition shall be completed
within one year. If the examiner is not able to offer the exam a second time within
one year for good reason the Audit Committee determines a new date and/or a
new examiner in consultation with the relevant department. Written examinations
must be taken in the next available exam date.
If the deadline is missed, the missed examinations are considered as failed.

(4) If the student opts not for the repetition of a failed elective module examination,
he or she must take another elective module examination instead with at least the
same number of credits and within a period of six months after the failure of the
first elective module examination. A substitute failed elective module examination
is considered as a failed second attempt. It can only be repeated once.

(5) Passed exams and passed coursework can not be repeated.

(6) A maximum of two module examinations can be taken a third time. If third
attempts of more than two module examinations is needed or a third attempt failed
or is considered not to have been passed, the entire master examination is
irrevocably failed. Beyond this the Audit Committee decides about a hardship
application in individual cases on a reasoned request. The hardship application

14
shall be submitted to the Department of Examinations and will be forwarded for
decision to the Audit Committee.

19
Absence, Withdrawal, Deception, Breach

(1) Module examinations are considered failed (grade 5.0), if the student without
good reason
1. has not registered for it bindingly in time and the deadline is missed at least two
semesters,
2. does not appear after binding registration for it or withdraws from it after its
commencement,
3. does not comply a deadline for delivery of the examination,
4. does not provide the examination in the case of a written examination within the
specified timeframe.

(2) The reasons for the absence or withdrawal referred to in paragraph 1 have to be
asserted to the Department of Examinations immediately in writing and have to be
made plausible. If the reasons are accepted, the closest possible date is assumed.
Already present examination results are to be charged in this case. Success failure or
withdrawal due to illness of the student must be confirmed immediately by a medical
certificate. If examination inability appears first time a simple medical certificate is
sufficient in which the testing is to certify incapacity by physicians. (A form of such a
certificate can be downloaded from the website of the University of Kaiserslautern.) In
case of recurrence, the submission of a qualified medical note is required including
the timing of the medical care, the nature, extent and probable duration of the
disease and its impact on the audit capability or a certificate of a medical officer
without this information is required. Equally to the disease of the student is the illness
of a predominantly cared child or other family member.

(3) If the student attempts to influence the result of an examination by cheating or

using unauthorized aids, the examination is deemed failed (grade 5.0). A student,
who disrupts the smooth conduct of an examination can be excluded by the
respective examiner or the invigilator usually after a warning from the continuation of
the examination; in this case the examination is deemed failed (grade 5.0). In serious
cases, the examination board can exclude students from taking further examinations.

(4) The students may request within a period of one week at the Audit Committee
that decisions under paragraph 3 sentence 1 and 2 will be reviewed by the Audit
Committee. Decisions that incriminate him have to be notified immediately in writing,
reasoned and with instruction on right to appeal. The student must be given the
opportunity to submit any statement prior to the release of a stressful decision.

15
20
Meeting deadlines, extension and interruption of periods of study

(1) For compliance with deadlines extensions and interruptions of study periods
are not recognized unless they were related,
1. through participation in law or statutory bodies envisaged a university, a student
body or student work,
2., through illness, a disability or other reasons that can not be held by the
students
3. pregnancy or raising a child; in these cases is to allow at least the use of
statutory maternity leave periods and the periods of parental leave after
Bundeselterngeldgesetz and Elternzeitgesetz,
4. by taking care of a dependent relative or
5. by proper and relevant study abroad for up to two semesters.
The student has to prove.

21
Successful Master examination, Certificate, Diploma Supplement

(1) The Master examination is passed if all coursework provided, all module
examinations, project work and the Master's thesis have been passed.

(2) If an examination can not be rendered or repeated the final examination is finally
failed. The chairperson of the Audit Committee issues to the student a written
notification with instruction on right to appeal.

(3) For a passed Master examination a grade is calculated. The overall grade listed in
the certificate is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the weighted credit points
marks of the graded study modules, project work and the Master's thesis. All
compulsory modules and all elective modules approved by the mentor are counted.
120 LP have to be reached or exceeded.
(4) If the Master examination is passed, a certificate is usually issued within six
weeks to the student. It shall state the degree program, the overall grade with their
credit points, the marks of the module examinations and the Master's thesis. It
includes the topic of the thesis and project work. If an at another university
completely secured module examination or thesis is counted, this is indicated by
specifying the University in testimony. The necessary documents are submitted at the
latest with the submission of the thesis at the Department of Examinations.
(5) The certificate bears the date of the day on which the last examination was taken
(release date of the thesis or, if a final module examination after submission of the
thesis is provided, the date of inspection) and is signed by the chairperson of the
Board of the Audit Committee.

16
(6) Along with the certificate, the student gets a certificate with the date of the degree
certificate that certifies the award of the degree of a "Master of Science". They shall
be signed by the chairperson of the Audit Committee and the President and be
provided with the State seal.

(7) Additionally a graduate gets a Diploma Supplement (DS) in accordance with the
"Diploma Supplement Model" of the European Union / euro Europe / UNESCO in
English and German. It must be signed by the chairperson of the board of examiners.
As illustration the current version of the national education system (DS section 8) and
the text which is coordinated between KMK and HRK is to be used. In particular the
supplement contains information about the university, the type of degree, the
program of study, the admission requirements, the study requirements and study
procedures as well as the German academic system.

(8) Upon written request, which must be present at the submission of the thesis at the
Department of Examinations at the latest, to the students are also issued translations
of the certificate (paragraph 4) and the master document (paragraph 6) in English.

(9) Students who have failed or finally failed the Master's examination, leaving the
university without finishing the master's examination or those who change the degree
