I. SUMMARY:

There was a newly built telecommunications facility in Antipolo Rizal and

Engineer Lorenzo de Guzman, an Electronics Engineering graduate was assigned by his

immediate superior, the VP for operations to head that facility and he was given three

months to make the facility operational.

The Kundiman Communications Corporation (KCC) Companys top management

is composed of the President, VP for Marketing, VP for Operations, and the VP for

Administration. It is a local company with more than 2,000 persons in its payroll.

Engineer de Guzman assessed that for the Antipolo unit to operate, it will require

the services of a number of persons skilled in the various activities that will be undertaken.

As he has been working with KCC for ten years (five years in the field and five

years in the head office), Engineer de Guzman is familiar with many aspects of the firms

operation. Some of the supervisors and three of the key officers are his friends.

As he was inspecting the building in Antipolo where he will hold office, Engineer

de Guzman wondered if he could convince top management to transfer some of

his acquaintances in the head office to his new assignment.

Engineer de Guzman felt that the various trainings KCC provided him had really

prepared him well for the technical aspects of his new job. His exposure to the different

units at the head office will also be useful in some ways to the administrative aspects of his

position. However, his trainings and experiences have not provided him with the expertise
to recruit qualified persons to occupy the various positions that will be created. To begin

with, he does not even have the information on the number and nature of the positions to

be created.

Engineer de Guzman knows that his next promotion will depend much on the

success of the new facility under his direction. He thought that if he could only get the right

persons, his job would not be too difficult. With this in mind, he pondered on what his first

move must be.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

How will Engineer De Guzman recruit qualified persons to occupy the various

positions that will be created? How will he be able to know the information about the

number of needed personnel and their job descriptions?

III. ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION

He may ask the management about the numbers and positions needed in the newly

built company. Moreover, he may seek help from his friends and ask them referred

professionals that will occupy the designated jobs. Lastly, he may attend a seminar that

will gain experiences and knowledge in recruiting.

IV. JUSTIFICATION

The best thing that Engineer de Guzman can do is to attend some seminars that will

gain his experiences in recruiting some employees that would fit the positions in the

company. In this way, he can explore his ideas about choosing the right people that can

help him or the company to be successful. Moreover, he can communicate to other people

what are the things that he would do or considered about choosing the right person.
V. COMMENTS

Based on the story situation, poor communication may lead to a problem. Engineer

de Guzman is lack of communication with his top management so that he was not able to

notice the numbers and positions needed in the newly built company. In this way, he does

not have any idea about the number of employees he would recruit. In addition, he is also

lack of trainings in recruiting employees so that, he did not know who are the people he

should hire for that position.
