Welcome!
We have been working hard this past year on our musicality in performance. In order to get a well-
rounded understanding of musicality, each performance group took on research of various eras of music
history, culminating in tonights event in which each group will perform pieces of various styles that
showcase what they learned about. In addition, youll find several written pieces and posters about
different musical eras and the pieces being performed tonight in the lobby. Please take a chance to look
over their amazing work before the concert, during the five minute intermissions between groups and
during the dessert reception afterwards. We have put in a lot of work and hope you enjoy our concert!

As stated above in the introduction for the program, this is meant to be an exploration throughout music
history. This would accompany a curriculum relating to history and would expose students to a variety of
styles. Each group has a spread of pieces from different eras and the Wind Ensemble even has a spot for
student compositions to be included. A lot of the material in the program comes from the book series
Teaching Music through Performance in Band and is tried and true repertoire. Each specific group has a
piece that I planed the rest of the works around, Beethoven Machine in the freshman band, Elsas
Procession to the Cathedral in the Concert band and Danzon No. 2 in the Wind Ensemble. These three
pieces get students performing pieces written bell well respected composers and feature styles that every
high school student should play.
