Math:
In math workshop last week, we hunted for shapes around our classroom and recorded
them on our shape charts. We read the book The Shape of Things by Dayle Ann Dodds
and then we turned a shape into a real-life object! You can see these in the hallway
outside of our classroom. This week we will continue to discuss shapes. We will describe
shapes and name their characteristics (i.e. a circle is round and has no sides; a square
has four equal sides and four corners). We will be making shapes on geoboards and
clay. We will also be using shapes to make pictures. We will continue to play Roll &
Record subitizing, which helps us recognize numbers instantly without having to count.
Social Studies:
In our content block, we explored our sense of taste. We talked about our taste buds, how our sense of smell
and taste go hand in hand, and the different kinds of tastes we have (sour, sweet, spicy, bitter, salty, etc.). We
got to taste different foods to see if we thought they were sour, sweet, or salty. At the end of the week, we
investigated with pumpkins. We measured them, found out if they sink or float, and drew observations of them.
This week, we will cut into them and count their seeds as well as talk about the life cycle of pumpkins.
