2. Explain why the light microscope is also called the compound microscope.
- Because it requires light to function it well. Thats why it is called light microscope.
3. Images observed under the light microscope are reversed and inverted. Explain what this
means.
- It is reversed anad inverted because the reflected image of the object to the mirror bounces
that makes the image reversed and inverted.
4. Explain why the specimen must be centered un the field of view on low power before going to
high power.
- To properly distinguish the position of the object while we moving it on its magnification.
5. A microscope has a 20x ocular(eyepiece) and two objectives of 10x and 43x, respectively.
A. Calculate the low power magnification of this microscope. Show your formula and all used.
- (20x)(10x) = 200x magnification
B. Calculate the high power magnification of this microscope. Show your formula and all used.
- (20x)(43x) = 860x magnification
6. In 3 steps using complete sentences, describe how to make a proper wet amount of letter e.
- 1. Cut a letter e from the newspaper.
2. Put the letter e on the slides then put a small amount of water using dropper.
3. Cover it with a smaller slide.
7. Describe the changes in the field of view and the amount of available light when going from
low to high power using the compound microscope.
- If you use the lower power magnification the specimen is not really that clear and magnified
plus you need a perfect lighting to see the image while when you use the high power the
specimen in zoomed clearly other than the low powered magnification.
8. Explain what the microscope user may have to do to combat the problems occurred in
question #7.
- The user may experience not seeing enough the image because of wrong using of lenses. The
user should use first the low power before dealing the high power to be able to see the image
well.
9. How does the procedure for using the microscope differ under high power as opposed to low
power?
- High power is not used with coarse adjustment at the same time. Because the focus to your
object will be move. So that the object will not be seen.
10. How does this activity help you in entering the world of microbiology?
- It helps me to be able to learn how to use a microscope properly. Including the small
functions of its parts.
