16 Marks Questions:
1. Write detailed specifications for earthwork excavation.
Starting of work:in all soils as per approved plan and lining
Workmanship: sides truly vertical and bottom uniformly levelled or as per approved slope
Excavated material: stacked away from sides of trenches by atleast 2 m for refilling in plinth in layers of 30
cm and well-watered surplus material spread out uniformly up to lead of 100cm
Protection to existing services: water pipes, electric cables, etc. carefully supported and protected
Measurement: exact length and width of lowest level as per drawing depth measured as vertical distance of
trench bottom from average ground level measured before excavation
Rate for payment: includes timbering and other supports for securing sides of excavations materials from

2. Write detailed specifications for plain cement concrete (1:1:2, 1:1.5:3, 1:2:4, 1:3:6, 1:4:8).
Proportion 1:2:4: 1 part cement: 2 parts sand: 4 parts coarse aggregates by weight

Fabrication and fixing: rate includes fabricating and fixing in position
Shutters: made from scanting of 40 mm thickness may be fully panelled or fully glazed or partly panelled and
partly glazed as per requirement thickness of 40 mm
Frames: size 100 mm x 80 mm provided with MS holdfasts made of flats 30 mm x 6 mm 3 on each side for

Fastenings and fixtures: included in rate of woodwork made of brass fixed as per requirements
Painting: frame facing brick wall to be painted with thick paint or coal tar painting other sides is separate item
Measurement: includes full frame and shutters no extra cost for wastages
8. Write detailed specifications for cement plastering (1:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6).
Proportion: 1 part cement: 4 parts sand (for 1:4 plaster)by weight thickness of course minimum 12 mm
Fine aggregate: clean and free from organic and vegetable matter coarse and angular
Cement: fresh and as per Indian standard codes
Water: clean and of pot-able quality as per Indian standard codes
Mixing: plaster mixed for only one bag of cement at a time when mixed with water, to be used within 30
minutes mixed on a water tight platform
Preparation: walls cleaned and wetted before plastering joints raked out to a depth of 20 mm
First coat: 12 mm thick coat markings made initially for final coat thickness
Second coat: with 1 part cement : 1 part sand 8 mm thick coat applied after 7 days of 1st coat
Workmanship: 1st coat is coarse finished with zigzag lines to give bonding with 2nd coat 2nd coat is fine
finished
Curing: 1st coat well-watered for atleast 7 days after laying 2nd coat watered for 15 days
Payment: for the superficial area plastered
Painting work
Preparing: painting area cleaned before painted rubbed with sand paper painting steel work first to be
removed from rust
Paint: only approved quality and colour ready made paint of water or oil based fresh and new stock
Painting: applied with fine quality brush cleaned with turpentine at end of every days work primer coat is
applied first next coat applied only after previous coat is dried stirred well before applying applied in
vertical strokes first and then horizontal strokes applied to create uniform coloured finish totally 3 coats
Cleaning: stains of white wash on floors and other areas to be cleaned before its drying
Measurement: paid for superficial area deductions made for openings for only once
