CHAPTER 1

BACKGROUND

1.0 Engineering Employment and Training

In 1998, I joined the Central Water Authority (CWA) as Technical Officer. My

duties consisted of site supervision, surveying works and reporting/assistance to
the Engineer.

I spent a short time at the Waste Water Management Authority (WMA) on a one
year contract basis (2000) where I dealt mainly with survey works before
returning back to the CWA.

I graduated from the University of Mauritius in 2013 after completing a BEng Civil
part time course. It was high time for me to rise to another level in my Civil
Engineering career.

I was recruited as Trainee Engineer at the CWA in August 2013 where I

completed my two years pre-registration training as stipulated by the Council of
Registered Professional Engineers Act 1965, in the Planning and Design
Department from August 2013 to August 2015. I was under the supervision of
Mr. S.P Mohungoo, Senior Engineer.

During my training, I was assigned several ongoing projects and new projects in
the South and East Section where I was involved from conception to their
commissioning.

This report recapitulates my involvement and training experience gained while

working under the supervision of a Registered Professional Civil Engineer at the
CWA for the period 01st August 2013 to 31st July 2015 for an eventual
registration with the council.
