Learning Plan

I. Lesson Basics
Class: 4th Grade
Time Allotted for Lesson: 40 minutes
Topic of Lesson: Division through the equal share method.
Materials:
Unifix Cubes
Color paper (marked at top with group 1, 2.)
II. Lesson Orientation
Specific Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to identify how many groups to set up.


Students will be able to divide the unifix cubes equally among the groups.

Prior Knowledge to Build On:


Students will have number sense. Students will have a strong understanding of multiplication.
Students will have experience with using unifix cubes.

Plan to Engage Multiple Learners:


Students will be working in a small group setting to allow more advanced students to explain an
assist lower learners. Additionally, the lesson will include a verbal and visual description of the
task. The students will be working hands-on with the blocks to build the model. For students who
struggle with muplication facts, subtraction, or number sense, they can do it one by one or
receiving scaffolding.
Interest Generator/Hook:
I will ask students, if they have ever had the problem of how to equally share a pizza. I will
explain how today we are going to investigate how we can equally share.
Learning Activities:

IV. Assessment Plan


There will be an informal assessment of each student as I walk around the room. I will ask
students questions to gauge their awareness and understanding of the topic, and I will look at
their work. Additionally, I will take a picture of each groups final work to conduct a formal
assessment of the final product the group came up with. Lastly, there will be the informal
assessment of the self-reflection the students complete.
