Torque limits for mounting screws

Do not exceed the maximum torque limits for the mounting screws when you install the
DIN rails and DeltaV S-series and CHARMs hardware.

Hardware Torque limit on mounting screw

DIN rail stop 0.9 Nm (8 in-lb)
Power terminations on carriers 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)
Terminal block field terminations 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)
CHARM terminals 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)

Wiring guidelines
Stranded or solid wire and shielded or twisted pair wire can be used with a DeltaV system.

Stranded or solid wire

The power and grounding terminals and field termination points on the carriers' terminal
blocks are 2.8 mm by 2.5 mm (2.8 mm x 2.5 mm). The maximum recommended wire size
for the terminals is 14 AWG, stranded or solid gauge wire or a 14 AWG ferrule. To select
wire, calculate the maximum current limit expected for each wire and refer to your local
electrical codes that define the wire size required for a specific current.

Shielded or twisted pair wire

Shielded twisted pair wiring is recommended for low-level signal wiring to reduce
susceptibility to noise. A shield ground bar to isolate and drain field noise away from the
DeltaV system is integrated into the 8-Wide I/O Carrier and the CHARM Baseplate.

CHARMs Smart Logic Solver (CSLS) SIS

hardware overview
CSLS SIS hardware consists of:
CHARMs CSLS process LS CHARM signals and run the SIS modules that contain
Smart Logic the safety system logic. Redundant CSLS can support up to 96 LS
Solvers (CSLS) CHARMs. The maximum number of LS CHARMs (96) are organized in

3
Installing CHARMs Smart Logic Solver SIS hardware

eight banks of 12 LS CHARMs. Each bank of 12 LS CHARMs is held by a

CHARM Baseplate. CSLS mount on CHARMs Smart Logic Solver Carriers
and connect to the Local Safety Network through connectors on the
carriers.
SZ Controllers SZ Controllers mount on the SZ Controller Carrier and connect to the
Area Control Network and the Local Safety Network through ports on
the carrier. SZ Controllers isolate CSLS from the rest of the system. SZ
controllers receive redundant 24 VDC input through the carrier. A
Modbus/TCP port on the carrier enables an SZ controller to support
standalone SIS installations.
CHARMs CSLS Carriers are DIN rail-mounted carriers that hold simplex or
Smart Logic redundant CSLS and Power Modules. The CSLS Carrier provides 24 VDC
Solver Carriers input to the CSLS and to the Power Modules. The Power Modules
provide 6.3 VDC to the LS CHARMs. The CSLS Carrier houses primary
and secondary Safety Network Ports for connections to the Local Safety
Network and a keylock switch that restricts how and when the CSLS can
be unlocked for downloads and upgrades.

SZ Controller SZ Controller Carriers are DIN rail-mounted carriers that hold simplex or
Carriers redundant SZ Controllers. The SZ Controller Carrier houses primary and
secondary Ethernet Isolation Ports for connections to the DeltaV Area
Control Network and to the Local Safety Network.

Baseplates CHARM Baseplates hold Logic Solver CHARMs (LS CHARMs) and I.S.
Baseplates hold LS Intrinsically Safe CHARMs. The baseplates connect to
the CSLS Carrier and to other baseplates through connectors on the
baseplates. Each baseplate holds up to 12 terminal blocks that hold LS
CHARMs, and an Address Plug that determines the address of the
baseplate and the CHARMs installed on the baseplate.
Logic Solver LS CHARMs are single I/O channels that plug into the CHARM Terminal
(LS) CHARMs Blocks on the CHARM Baseplate. The DeltaV system supports analog
input, discrete input, discrete output (including LS DO redundant DTA
and LS DO redundant ETA CHARMs), LS DVC HART simplex and redundant
DTA, LS power output, LS thermocouple input, LS RTD / Resistance Input,
and LS voltage CHARMs as well as LS Intrinsically Safe analog input,
discrete input, RTD/ Resistance input, and Thermocouple / mV input
CHARMs.

Recommendations for installing vertical DIN

rails
CHARMs hardware is designed for installation on vertical T-type DIN rails in an enclosure
suitable for the location in which the equipment is installed. Use standard, 3.5 cm (1.38
inch) T-type DIN rails to hold the equipment.

Suggested spacing for DIN rail installation

Maintain 2.5 cm (.98 inch) from the top of the carrier to the bottom of the wireway
mounted above or to the top edge of the enclosure's mounting surface.
Maintain 2.5 cm (.98 inch) from the left side of the carrier to the right side of a
wireway mounted on the left of the carrier or the left edge of the enclosures
mounting surface.
Maintain 5.0 cm (1.97 inch) from the right side of the carrier to the left side of a
wireway mounted to the right of the carrier or the right edge of the enclosures
mounting surface.

Install an SZ Controller Carrier on the DIN rail

The SZ Controller Carrier holds redundant SZ Controllers. It has redundant 24 VDC
connectors for providing power to the controllers, redundant (primary and secondary)
ethernet ports for connection to the Area Control Network, and redundant (primary and
secondary) ethernet ports for connection to the Local Safety Network.

No tools are required to install the SZ Controller Carrier on the DIN rail. A latch on the back
of the carrier snaps it into place on the DIN rail.

Extend CHARM power to other baseplates

When CHARM Baseplates in a 96 LS CHARM system are installed on multiple DIN rails,
CHARM Column Extenders and cables are used to extend redundant 24 VDC power and
communication busses to the baseplates. The bottom column extender can be connected
to CSLS carriers or to baseplates depending upon the physical location of the carrier and
the baseplate. The top column extender can be connected to baseplates only.

CHARM Column Extender cables are available in three lengths:

0.5 meters (1.64 feet)

1.0 meters (3.28 feet)
2.0 meters (6.56 feet)

A maximum of four extender pairs can be used and only one extender pair can exceed 0.5
meters (1.64 feet). The maximum bus length ( the total length from the CSLS to the
CHARM Column Terminator) is 5.5 meters (18 feet).

Note
Although LS CHARMs can be installed in any location, it is good engineering practice to separate low
voltage DC signals from high voltage AC signals. To ensure a safe working environment, it is
recommended that you wire AC signals to a different enclosure from DC signals.

1. Open the latch on a terminal block.

2. Insert a LS CHARM into the terminal block and push the LS CHARM until the latch
closes.

Note
Most CHARM terminal blocks are automatically keyed to the first LS CHARM installed.
However, the following CHARM terminal blocks have a fixed key setting: CHARM
Thermocouple / mV, LS DVC (simplex and redundant), LS Redundant DTA Relay, LS
Redundant ETA Relay.

Reset the keying mechanism on a CHARM

Terminal Block
The keying mechanism on most CHARM terminal blocks is in a neutral position when
shipped from the factory. In most cases, installing a LS CHARM sets the keying mechanism.
For most LS CHARMs you can reset the keying mechanism if you need to remove the LS
CHARM from the terminal block and install a LS CHARM of a different type. Some terminal
blocks have fixed keying and cannot be reset: CHARM Thermocouple / mV, LS DVC
(simplex and redundant), LS Redundant DTA and ETA Relay.

2. Flip the terminal block 180 and notice the two small keying posts protruding from
the bottom of the terminal block.
3. Push the two keying posts completely in to return the posts to the neutral position.

You will hear a click when the posts are completely pushed in.

4. Verify that the keying posts are in the neutral position.

In the neutral position, the ends of the posts sit slightly inside the bottom face of the
terminal block. That is, the keying posts are sub flush to the bottom face of the
terminal block. If the keying posts are flush with the bottom face of the terminal
block, the keying posts are not yet in the neutral position. In this case, use your
fingers to push the keying posts to the neutral position.
5. Snap the terminal block back into the slot on the baseplate.

You can now install a LS CHARM of a different type into the terminal block.

mechanism. For most LS I.S. CHARMs you can reset the keying mechanism if you need to
remove an LS I.S. CHARM from the terminal block and install an LS I.S. CHARM of a
different type. However, the IS CHARM Thermocouple mV Terminal Block has a fixed key
setting to allow only an LS I.S. Thermocouple / mV input CHARM .

Label the CHARMs installed on each baseplate

The CHARM labeling component consist of a label support that holds a label and its
protective plastic cover. Remove the label support from the baseplate before writing or
typing the CHARM IDs on the label.

Note
The image shows the labeling component on a CHARM Baseplate. If you are labeling I.S. CHARMs,
install the labeling component on an I.S. CHARM Baseplate.

4. Slide the label from the label support being careful not to bend or fold it.
5. Write or type the CHARM IDs in the preformatted areas on the label.
6. Slide the completed label back into the support from the top, being sure that the
label passes under the label retainers and is properly seated under the top and
bottom corner tabs.
7. Repeat the previous step and insert the protective plastic cover over the label.

Communication in a CHARMs Smart Logic

Solver SIS system
In a CSLS SIS system, communication occurs over the DeltaV Area Control Network and a
Local Safety Network.

DeltaV The DeltaV Area Control Network is an Ethernet network that enables
Area communication between the nodes in a DeltaV network. SZ Controllers
Control connect to the Area Control Network (as well as to the Local Safety
Network Network) and isolate the CHARMs Smart Logic Solvers (CSLS) from the rest
of the DeltaV system. Refer to the DeltaV S-series and CHARMs Hardware
Installation manual for information on setting up the Area Control Network.
Local The Local Safety Network is a Ethernet network that enables
Safety communication between CSLSs and a single SZ Controller. The CSLSs
Network communicate secure parameter and input data to other CSLSs over the
Local Safety Network. The SZ Controller communicates configuration,
parameter changes, and module data over the Local Safety Network to the
CSLSs. SZ Controllers provide the DeltaV interface to multiple CSLSs on the
same Local Safety Network. All CSLSs under one SZ Controller share the
same Local Safety Network.

Important
The Local Safety Network must be treated as a dedicated standalone Local Area
Network (LAN) and must not be connected to any other network including other
DeltaV Local Safety Networks. Only DeltaV Safety Switches (LSN20 and SRM100)
and DeltaV SIS nodes are supported on the Local Safety Network.

The following figure shows an example CSLS SIS network. A redundant SZ Controller with
its redundant CSLSs and LS CHARMs connect to the Local Safety Network and to a DeltaV
Area Control Network with redundant CIOCs and standard CHARMs.
