1. Title: Blobs in a bottle

2. Learning Objectives: To investigate the density of water and oil.
3. Materials:
a) Alka-Seltzer or generic effervescent-antacid-and-pain-relieving tablet
b) Vegetable oil
c) Water
d) Tall clear plastic container
e) Food colouring (neon colours work well)
4. Procedure
a) Pour water about 1/3 of bottle.
b) Use a measuring cup or funnel to slowly pour the vegetable oil into the bottle
until its almost full. [You may have to wait a few minutes for the oil and water
separate but do not fill it to the brim]
c) Add 5 drops of food colouring to the bottle (Red, blue, green)
d) The drops will pass through the oil and then mix with the water below.
e) Break a seltzer tablet in half and drop the half tablet into the bottle.
f) Watch it sink to the bottom and let the blobby greatness begin!
