Helambu Gaupalika

Introduction.

A Helambu is the home to the Hyolmo people, situated at the north of Nepal in sindhupalchok
distt. It's a one of famous tourist destination in northern Nepal surrounded by high range of
mountains and naturally rich area. Its border touches with Rasuwa in the east north is Tibet and
north west is nuwakot distt. After a new local level system it become rural municipality. It
complying with the new Nepal government policy, Helambu Gaupalika consists of five earlier
VDCs (Village Development Committee) which are Helambu, Kiul, Palchok, Ichok and
Mahankal. Helambu becomes ward no 1, Kiul becomes ward no 2, Palchok ward no 3,
Mahankal becomes ward no 4 and 5 and Ichok ward no 6 and 7 respectively.

Geography

Helambu guapalika is located in distt. sindhupalchok, Pradesh no 3 in northern Nepal. Its


covered it is spread in about 287.26 km.

Ethnic Group

These are the few ethic group residing in Helambu gaupalika.

Hyolmo:-

Hyolmo is a ethnic group who live in the Himalayan zone north and north-east from Kathmandu
to the south of the Helambu mountains. The Helambu area is the central area of the traditional
Hyolmo population. This mainly falls into the Nuwakot and Sindhupalchok districts of the
Bagmati zone as well as the Rasuwa district.

Most of hyolmo inhabitants lives in ward no 1, 2 and 3 of helambu gaupalika.

The main profession of Hyolmo are farming. beside that Helambu region is also popular site for
tourism and trekking, and many Hyolmo are now employed in the tourism industry as tour-
guides either in their own respective villages or in various other parts of Nepal.

Tamangs:-

The Tamangs are the indigenous inhabitants of the Himalayan regions of Nepal. The
traditionally Buddhist Tamangs are the largest Tibeto-Burman ethnic group within Nepal.
Influence by both the Hinduism and Buddhism tamangs follow both of the religion and have their
dense population in helambu Rural municipality. they main occupation is farming however now
they are in other profession as well.

Chhetri:-

according to Hindu ritual, chhetri is a caste of warriors and people inclined to agriculture. They
are one of the residing groups of helambu rural municipality. they main occupation is farming
however now they are in other profession as well.

Brahman:-

Brahmin is a the one of the cast of Nepal. According to the Hindu tradition Brahmin is a caste of
priest who engage in teaching and sacred learning. Brahmins have their at feeble population at
halambu rural municipality. They belong to ethics Paharis in Nepal. Actually are the ones who
are specially designated for worshipping of god in Hinduism.

Dalit:-
Dalit, is one of the disadvantaged groups scattered in all parts of Nepal. They are densely
populated in helmabu rural municipality and are engaged in various profession. The term is
mostly used for the ones that have been subjected to untouchability.

Population

According to the Nepal National Census of 2011, and latest statistics shows that the population
of the Helambu Gaupalika is 17,671.
