ASSIGNMENT- 7
1. DOS - Problem 6.5. Calculate the response of the system shown in example 6.3 with damping equal to
zero. Plot the response of the system for n = 1; 3; 5; 7; 9. Compare with the results obtained for non-zero
damping by plotting the amplitude spectra of the loading function and the amplitude spectra of the
displacement.

It is seen that as the frequcny increases the amplitude of loading reduces but at N=5 cycle the system is having maximum displcament,
however it is noticed that at n=5 the frequency ratio1, which means its in quasi resonace. Also when compared with =0 and 0 the
response of system is more conservative without damping.
For a conservative system response of periodic loading is given as
2. DOS - Problem 7.1. The single-story building shown in Figure 1 is subjected to a load generated by
an explosion that can be represented by a lateral force applied at the roof level, with the indicated time
variation. The total lateral stiffness of the building is 7000 kN/m, and the total mass of the roof is 12000
kg. Calculate the maximum roof displacement and the maximum base shear for the building.

3. DOS - Problem 7.5. Carry out the calculations of example 7.1 for a conservative system using the rec-
tangular method to numerically evaluate the Duhamel integral.
