A Peek at this Week
Math: This week we will finish Topic 4: Multiplying 2-Digits by 2 Digits in
math. We have learned various strategies to determine the answer: Box/Area Model,
Distributive Property, Partial Products, and Standard Algorithm. We will take our
unit assessment this week after two days of review in class. I will send a home a
study guide to help students prepare on 11/3. The unit assessment with only be 8
questions. These questions are word problem based. The students will be asked to
solve a 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication problem using any 2 of the above listed
strategies.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.B.5
Multiply two 2-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties
of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular
arrays, and/or area models.

Reading: As we continue our unit on reading nonfiction, we will be reading and

analyzing more than one text about a topic so we can learn that we acquire
knowledge by reading different texts. Students will continue identifying main ideas
and supporting details and using those to summarize text.

Writing: We will be working to finish our realistic fiction writing. Our in class
celebration will be on November 17 (students only)! But you should look forward to
seeing a published piece soon!

Social Studies: Students will continue their study of Government through next
week. We will continue using Weeks 9 and 10 of the Studies Weekly newspapers. Next
week, students will use the information they have learned (and the newspapers as a
resource) to create a Google Slide presentation. They will have a rubric to guide them
through the assignment. This task will take the place of their usual weekly tests and
will count as a Formal grade. Students will be explaining the governments functions,
the services provided by the government, and information related to North Carolinas
government. This will be an in-class assignment. Im excited to see what the students
can put together!

Science: We will begin our study of Earths History and fossils. Students will be able to
answer these questions:
1. How do fossil characteristics differ based on age, origin and environmental factors?
2. What are the similarities and differences between fossils and existing organisms?
3. Why do some living organisms eventually become fossils?
