What This Show Will Be

ALT Magic is going to be many things. It is
both an homage to the superhero cartoon and a
fresh take on it. It embraces and twists the
tropes of the superhero and fantasy worlds, but
combines them to create a unique experience. The
characters will be distinct and dynamic, as well
as having growing, complex relationships. The
show will exist in a wider universe allowing for
spin-off material and guest appearances from
other heroes. Likewise, the show will occasionally
dip out of the superhero world to visit the
world of fantasy, introducing us to magical
worlds and creatures. Most importantly, ALT
Magic scratches an itch for many people. It will
be primarily an action show with a small amount
of comedy from the character interactions. In
recent years, there has been a lack of action in
animation and ALT Magic could hit this
demographic.

Setting
As ALT Magic is a superhero show, there will be multiple
different worlds for the heroes to inhabit. The primary
location is Grimmsville Heights.
Earth:
It is an Earth much like our own, however, it is
infused and infected by the tropes and rules of the
superhero and fantasy genres. There are spandex- and
armor-clad heroes battling mad scientists, evil
despots, and corrupt corporations alongside eccentric
wizards and witches, as well as bizarre creatures.
This Earth, dubbed Earth-AMF9, has always been
incredibly similar to our Earth, dubbed Earth-AAA1.
However, this Earth, along with its sister planet Gigas,
was infused with the power of Magic by the All-
Mother, this realitys creator goddess. Gigas was
infused with enough to create a world of magic and
mystical creatures, while Earth was only given enough
to allow human magic users to eventually develop.
These magicians kept themselves secret, associating only
with each other in secret meetings. While it was
debatable when, it was known that at some point, most
believe the Middle Ages, Gigas found a way to access
Earth. This allowed a transferal of knowledge between
the two worlds. However, magic was not the only
source of power in this world. Some were born with
the genetic capability to do miraculous things. These
groups had to keep their powers secret. That is, until
the Great War.

During the War, many of these people donned special

costumes to hide their identities as they joined the
battle. They were revered as heroes and saviors. When
the War ended, many of them continued their heroics,
either by cleaning up from the effects of the war or by
hunting down criminals. Sadly, some unsavory enhanced
humans chose to take this opportunity to don their own
costumes and take to the streets as villains.
When the Second Great War began, many of them went
into hiding, as the government temporarily cracked
down on supervillains. During the Second Great War,
many heroes tried their best to join, but even with
their aid, not much was different from our world. While
the heroes were still praised during the war and the
following cleanup, they were immediately criticized and
scrutinized during the Cold War. Many space heroes
fled the planet, while most magical heroes escaped to
Gigas. During this time, the UN formed as a proper
governing entity and cracked down on all superbeings.
Eventually, these policies would be repealed, leading to
most heroes having normal lives in the modern age. The
current generation is the first to not have to deal with
most of these policies, besides those kept up by private
company MaviTech.
Grimmsville Heights itself is a medium sized town
plagued by magic and villains. It contains everything
one would expect from a town and it's downtown
sector resembles a larger city. Underneath Grimmsville
is a mirror-world where magic and mundane mingle. The
main characters go to Gaiman High School during the

day.
Gigas, The World Of Magic:
Gigas is the sister world to Earth, created by the All-
Mother as the more magical realm. While it developed
similarly to Earth, the access to Magic meant there
was less focus on technology. Gigas is only recently
reaching something akin to an industrial revolution,
guided by the Magister Empire. The Magister Empire
claims their power stretches across all of Gigas, but
that is only technically correct. While they are in
power across Gigas, most of the world is still
controlled by the kings, they just give tribute to the
Empire. The Magisters which make up the Magister
Empire are the greatest and most manipulative magic
users on all of Gigas. The magic on Gigas is operated
in a fashion similar to Dungeons & Dragons, but with
some inspirations from folk lore. There are wizards,
sorcerers, and witches. Wizards utilize learned magic,
Sorcerers utilize natural magic, and Witches utilize a
unique form of magic based on folklore. Through Gigas,
many individuals can reach other worlds. Alfheim,
Arcadia, a form of Hell, and more.
Other Realms:
Other Realms: While Gigas and Earth are the largest
realms, they are not the only realms. There are many
distinct worlds with equally unique inhabitants. The most
likely to come up in the series are the Spectral realm,
the Lunar Sovereignties, the Celestial realm, and the
Feylands. The Spectral realm is the land where all
spirits and ghosts come from, and is the homeland of

Amadeus Ghast, a member of Alt Magic. While most

spirits are former humans, not all of them are. The
Lunar Sovereignties are two twin kingdoms, one
centered on Nightmares and one centered on Dreams
which orbit a massive Moon-based castle containing the
Lunar Sovereign. This land is the source of all dreams
and nightmares, as well as the source of Angie Yungs
power. Next is the Celestial Realm. The Celestial Realm
is home to the gods, certain dead individuals, and the
angels. It is split into three tiers. Eternal Arcadia is
the afterlife section which holds many dead individuals.
The Divine Kingdom is home to the Greco-Roman
inspired gods and Angels. Additionally, there is the
Tower of Truth, where, allegedly, the true Gods live.
Finally, you have the Feylands. This surreal, ever-
shifting realm is home to the Fey, namely fairies. It is
the source of both Wild Magic and Fey Magic, which is
divided into Contracts and Glamours.
The Universe:
Let us return to Earth. Surrounding Earth is the
greater universe, which contains many other planets with
similar, and different, races of lifeforms. One notable
group in the universe is the Omega Squadron, a galactic
police force utilizing advanced technology to prevent
crime in the universe. Other potential uses of the
universe are alien heroes, bounty hunters, and cosmic
powers. There are also alien magic users who may use
very different forms of magic from what we see.
The Multiverse
This wouldnt be a superhero series without a

multiverse, which provides limitless potential for

storytelling, both within the show and in spin-offs.
Before the multiverse can be explained, the origin of
reality has to be explained. The All-Mother came from
another world, where she had ascended to Godhood.
Using her newfound power, she created reality, but this
spread her strength too thin, weakening her. It is
unknown where the multiverse came from. (Though, I am
more than willing to explore other potential ideas.) In
the Multiverse, there is an infinite amount of universes.
Between these realities is the remaining Void. Including
a multiverse could allow for many story ideas, such
as alternate worlds based on other genres or
concepts (maybe in different art styles?) and other
versions of the main cast.

The Team
The lovable, inexperienced misfits themselves. While they call
themselves ALT Magic, they are officially named the Consortium
of Alternative Magic Users, or CAMU. They were brought
together by the Consul, Genevieve Greylens, to battle magical
villains and tackle abnormal threats. The membership is: Angie
Yung as Abyssal. Amadeus Amy Ghast as Ghast. Taylor Wald
as Tarot. Gwendolyn Greylens as Greylens. And Macy Lenahan
as Gemma.

Angie yung
CHARACTER LOGLINE: A Nightmare-empowered warrior in
the form of a fun-loving, semi-nihilistic goth girl,
destined to die by the hands of her greatest foe.
HERO IDENTITY: Abyssal
POWERS: Magical Girl-inspired form, Black Knight
Second Form, Enchanted Umbrella (Vehicle/Wand),
Nightmare-based Shapeshifting, Fear Manipulation
PERSONALITY: Fun-loving, Impulsive,
Fatalistic/Deterministic
BACKGROUND: Angie is the child of a female former
childrens TV host and a retired screenwriter. Despite
her parents offer to assist her in working in television,
she chose to live a normal life. She simply wasnt
interested in the idea. She went to school, hung out with
friends, did her chores, and all the usual teenager things.
All of that changed when Interitus, a demigod of Chaos
and Destruction was awoken from an ancient slumber.
For seemingly no understandable reason, he attacked
Angies parents, slaughtering them both. She fled from
the house and was rescued by the police. While staying at
their station, she fell asleep. In her sleep, she visited the
Sovereignty of Nightmares. She was given the powers and
title of the Nightmare Knight. Her new duty was to hunt
down certain threats, such as mutant Nightmares known
as Night Terrors and the Medrants, humans infused with
Eldritch Nightmare flesh. Later, she found out why she
was attacked and what her destiny was. She was destined
to die in battle against Interitus, the prelude to a

devastating thousand year long war. Instead of allowing

this information to drag her into a deeper depression, she
chose to embrace it. She believes that there is no point
in trying to fight against fate and instead she wishes to
enjoy life to its fullest. This has made her impulsive, but
also very fun and outgoing. She reluctantly accepted a
position on the team ALT Magic. Consul distrusts Angie
and thinks she is going to turn against the team because
of her darker appearance and nightmare powers.

Gwendolyn Greylens
CHARACTER LOGLINE: A folksy, kinda crazy hippie girl
with empath powers.
HERO IDENTITY: Greylens
POWERS: Sorcery, Emotion Sharing, Power
Trading/Sharing, Enhance/Weaken Powers, Fuse Others (a
la DBZ or Steven Universe)
PERSONALITY: Open-Minded, Naive, Excitable, Sympathetic
BACKGROUND: Before you can know who Gwendolyn is,
you have to know who Consul is. Consul, otherwise known
as Genevieve Greylens, is the chosen ambassador for
Gigas to Earth. She earned this title through her immense
skill in both magic and politics. She has lived on Earth
as the Consul for three decades. During this time, she fell
in love with two people: Arthur Kent and Lucille Diamond.
Using an advanced magical ritual, they were able to
create Gwen based on all of them. Consul took Lucilles
advice and chose not to force magical studies on Gwen.
Gwen chose to study magic, but in the way of witches,
treating it not as an alternative science, but as an
emotional force. This, combined with her birth, seems to be
the origin of her Empath powers. Gwen believes in giving
second, and third, chances to everyone. She is open to
many things, but also is rather gullible.

Taylor Wald
CHARACTER LOGLINE: An aggressive military brat and
abuse survivor with the ability to perform Final Fantasy
style summons.
HERO IDENTITY: Tarot
POWERS: Enhanced Strength and Agility, Signature tarot
cards able to summon weak, longer-lasting creatures
and/or powerful, temporary heroes/legends.
PERSONALITY: Perfectionist, Aggressive, Determined,
Emotionally Reserved
BACKGROUND: Taylors father knew he couldnt take care
of Taylor by himself. He asked everyone he could trust in
his family, but they all turned him down. They were either
too busy or couldnt handle it financially. However, he
eventually found someone. A cousin of his who had joined
the military years prior. He seemed like an upstanding,
responsible young man, but underneath that public
exterior lied a dark secret. He was incredibly aggressive
and controlling. As Taylor grew up, she suffered his
abusive personality. While his abuse scarred her with
anger issues and problems sharing and expressing her
emotions , his strict adherence to military standards did
shape her, making her the militaristic perfectionist that she
is today. One day, he went too far and she knocked him
out, fleeing from the home. She was taken in by a
mysterious aunt who revealed to her the family history.
Passed down from generation to generation was a deck
of Tarot Cards able to summon up mystical beings from
history and mythology. Taylor accepted the cards and

began her superhero career. Along the way, she found a

set of enchanted gauntlets that granted her super
strength. Taylor gladly accepted the position of leader of
the team ALT Magic.

Amadeus Amy Ghast

CHARACTER LOGLINE: The pompous half-human son of
the Specter King.
HERO IDENTITY: Ghast
POWERS: Partial Intangibility, Flight, Spectral Energy
Manipulation, Astral Projection, Possession
PERSONALITY: Arrogant, Pompous, Adventurous,
Argumentative
BACKGROUND: Amadeus was born under strange
circumstances. His mother is a human, but his father is a
ghost. Though, not just any ghost. His father is the
Spirit King, ruler of the Spectral Realm. Ghast was
raised in luxury by his father in the Spectral Realm. He
is one of the only hybrids of his kind. To help him better
understand his human heritage and discover his powers, his
father sent him to work with the ALT Magic team. Ghast
does enjoy the superhero image and the praise that he
receives, but doesnt really care for justice or doing
the right thing. However, he has a soft spot for the
poor and needy.

Macy Lenahan
CHARACTER LOGLINE: A Heathers-inspired popular girl
able to create pink crystalline constructs at the cost of
her life force.
HERO IDENTITY: Gemma
POWERS: Crystalline Constructs (saps energy from her
life force)
PERSONALITY: Charismatic, Abrasive, Clever
BACKGROUND: Macy is the second hero to adopt the
identity of Gemma. The first was her mother. Heather
Lenahan operated as Gemma during the 80s, but retired.
However, she was eventually kidnapped by MaviTech and
experimented on. The experiments caused her ring, the
same ring Macy uses, to dislodge. It proceeded to find
Macy, offering to give her a chance to be a hero and
avenge her lost mother. She reluctantly agreed, donning
her mothers identity as Gemma. Macy blends in with the
popular crowd, especially her posse of Heathers style
cool girls, and certainly agrees that she is one of them,
but she is also an expert on magical lore, just as much
as she is an expert on fashion. She is actually very
clever and friendly, but hides it behind her cool girl
persona. Will grow into a kind of parody of the typical
girls television hero.

Allies & Adversaries

Throughout the series, the team will battle a large array of
villains. Ranging from magicians and demons to aliens and
scientists, these villains will be the core of most episodes. To
help defeat these enemies, the team will occasionally ally
themselves with other heroes from throughout the universe.
This page is merely a sampling of heroes and villains that the
team will interact wiith

ALLIES
8-Bit: A hacker able to mentally interface with
computers. He is hunting down Phillip Brannon, the CEO
of TeknaCorp.
Seraph: A young Jewish woman bound to the soul of an
Angel. This gives her the ability to transform into
them.
Crusader: A young Mexican teen with energy absorption
powers. He is running from a thinly veiled metaphor for
a White Supremacist group.
Rot: A plant creature infected with a strange festering
spirit. Dislikes the main cast.
The Magician: A brutal vigilante utilizing a neurotoxin
to make people hallucinate that he is a Demon.
Thought: A secretive super-genius with a super
computer implanted in her brain. Usually operates using
robotic duplicates. Has a crush on Greylens.
Captain Omega: A space-faring college student who
utilizes a second skin style exosuit to battle space
pirates.

Technomancer: A young barista given the powers of

alien Tech-Manipulation Sorcery
Bazooka: A punk Rock Protester with the ability to
hurl explosions. A good friend of Angie.
Cosmic Quiver: The half-alien daughter of an Olympic-
level Archer. She is skilled at Archery and can
manipulate Cosmic Energy constructs.
Time-Belt: A young girl from the future, she was sent
back to prevent a villain from rising to power. She
can manipulate time within special bubbles.
Tina Turbo: A teen mascot-girl sent to the future
from the 50's by her eccentric uncle's time machine. The
latent energy allows her to move at super-speed.
ADVERSARIES
The Hellions: A team of Demonic villains created to
mirror the main cast
Poltergeist: Counterpart to Ghast. A thousand
spirits bound to a single, semi-physical body.
Hellfire: Counterpart to Macy. Heather Lenahan,
resurrected and bound to a Hellfire ring.
The Mad Creator: Counterpart to Angie. The son of
the Fear God, he is devoted to spreading fear
through his mad scientist form.
Mimesis: Counterpart to Gwen. Temporarily Steals
Powers from others, but must be in their vicinity.
Calamity: Counterpart to Tarot. Summons disastrous
effects to attack her enemies.
Lord Alistair: A demon trying to turn Grimmsville into
a Hellish plane of Hatred. Creator of the Hellions.
King Arthur: A delusional man operate a magical

exosuit devoted to slaying Evil

Jeremiah Mavis: The CEO of MaviTech. He operates as a
hero, but is involved in several unethical activities.
Spirit Master: A strange entity bound to a mannequin
body, he can control other spirits/ghosts.
Beyondos, The Lich Master: A powerful, otherworldly
Lich living on the edge of reality. He seeks to consume
the protagonists souls.
TeknaCorp: A rival company to MaviTech. They do
equally, if not more shady actions. They hide most of
their activities through shell companies and subsidiaries.
Blue Flame: An agent of TeknaCorp. She has advanced
gadgetry and pyromancy. Was kidnapped and brainwashed
by TeknaCorp. She is hunting the heroes and their
allies.
Onoskelis: A demon disguised as Jack The Ripper. She
doesn't have a personal issue with the heroes, they are
just in her way.
Nightmare Empress: An evil Angie from another reality.
She seeks to spread her rule to the core universe.
Mr. Middlekiff: A teacher at the school who is
obsessed with the occult and otherworldly.
TheGrumpyGamer: A youtube Let's Player with the
ability to manipulate people's minds.

Episode Ideas
What's a television series without episodes? Well, nothing,
actually. Here is a sampling of potential adventures for the
protagonists to go on.

Captain Omega visits the teams school and gives a speech

on knowing your future and your plans for the future.
This triggers Gwen to question what her plans for the
future are. She explores multiple options, such as
professional hero, the next Consul, or even just being a
witch, but finds a reason against each option. After
helping Omega defeat a space pirate, Omega explains that
she was in a similar situation and that there is nothing
wrong with not being sure of your future. She still has
time figure out who she is. Each future segment should
be in a different art style.
A mysterious thief is stealing occult items and rigging up
peculiar magical circles around the town. The team
attempts to investigate, but is unable to figure out who
could have done it. Gemma, Gwen, and Consul are
perplexed, as the magic isnt like regular magic on Gigas
and seems to be something new. They ask Mr. Middlekiff,
an art teacher at the school, for info on some of the
stolen materials. Unfortunately, he is the thief and now he
knows their identities. He rigs a circle up so that he can
trap Angie. The team has to free her and stop him.
The team tracks down a bank robber and find a
gemstone that he stole recently. However, when they touch
the gemstone, they are all whisked away to a High Fantasy,

Dungeons & Dragons style world. Angie helps defeat a

monster, but the people turn against her, as her Knight
form looks like one of the Sorcerer-Kings cronies. She
has to prove herself and help defeat the sorcerer-king
so that the team can go home.
A new hero arrives in town: King Arthur. While fighting
alongside him, he decides that Angie is worthy of joining
his Round Table. She agrees and begins to fight with him,
neglecting her duties to the team. However, when she
activates her Black Knight form, the sword tells him that
she is a villain and he turns against her.
Angie attempts to start a youtube Lets Play channel,
assuming that her unique personality will be enough to
get her views. However, it keeps bombing as everyone is
obsessed with some big-name youtuber named
TheGrumpyGamer. Angie tries to convince the team that
he is using mind-control, but they have trouble believing
her. However, they decide to give her a chance and they
investigate. At the end, they reveal that he does, in fact,
have mind control powers. They battle him and Angie tries
again at the whole youtube thing. It still bombs, but she
makes a penny from it.
The team is battling a scientist when he activates his
device, ripping open a hole between two realities. From the
other side, an evil version of Angie, Nightmare Empress,
arrives. She states that she is here to spread her domain,
but the team wont allow it. They are able to send her
back and close the gateway. However, in part 2, Angie
convinces the team to visit the other world and free it
from her tyranny. They gather a few allies, including

Thought, and rebuild the device, slingshotting themselves

to the other reality. They join the rebellion in the other
reality and take down Nightmare Empress, but she
secretly travels to their world.
After defeating Blue Flame, the team finds her TeknaCorp
issued phone. Gemma swipes it and begins to use it as
hers. The team is suspicious when no one arrives to get
the phone, but Gemma says they are being ridiculous. They
realize that the phone is taking all of her attention and
later, the phone begins to fuse with her. It's revealed
that TeknaCorp planned for them to find the phone.
The team decides to go to the Supers-Only Store for a
Black Friday sale, against Consul's orders. They must
battle through their allies to get a hold of the greatest
deals of the season!

Importance of Aesthetic
In ALT Magic, each character is accompanied by a musical and
visual aesthetic. This will be important, as these aesthetics
represent part of the character. Likewise, they will be used
for themes for the show. Theyll allow for a very dynamic
soundtrack and character design. To ensure these aesthetics
are followed, members of the development team should
research bands and influential figures in the accompanying
communities. Here is a list of the main characters and their
aesthetics:
Angie is primarily influenced by the traditional goth
aesthetic with a blend of Neil Gaiman-esque visuals. Her
primary outfit should look like something youd see
Siouxsie Sioux in. Her music should be fun-loving post-
punk style, heavy on synth. For inspiration, you can
analyze most of The Cures music.
Tarot is influenced by a mix of military, punk, and metal
aesthetics. Her primary outfit should be a punk-ified
military uniform, moreso military than punk. Her music
will be closer to metal than punk, but will have touches
of both genres. Not Nu Metal.
Greylens is influenced by folk and hippie aesthetics. Her
primary outfit should align with this, mixing a witches
costume with a folksy design. Her music should be
something between Neofolk and traditional folk.
Gemma, being a popular girl, should have a Heathers-
inspired aesthetic. Her primary outfit should essentially be
a Heathers outfit, but pink. Her music should be a
mixture of modern and 80s pop with some inspiration

from Broadway.
Ghast, a royal, arrogant brat, should have an almost
gothic royalty aesthetic. His primary outfit should be an
old looking royal uniform with some gothic flair. His
music should be primarily classical in style.

Random Cool Ideas:

This mini-section is to cover some ideas that I couldn't put
somewhere else.
The holidays are named after their Pagan counterparts:
Christmas = Yule, Halloween = Samhain. However, they are
actually fusions of different Holiday traditions.
Every episode will begin with the ending of an unrelated
battle, as a reference to old comics where this would
happen.
Background crowds in the distance are colored a single,
bright color, again, as a reference to old comics.
Instead of simple transitions, the series should use comic
book panel based transitions.
To represent dreams/hallucinations, there should be an
art style change.
References to Vertigo Comics and Neil Gaiman scattered
throughout the backgrounds.
