Automatic Voltage Regulator Using PID

Abstract:
Our aim to develop a controller based on PID Controller to simulate an automatic voltage regulator in
power system analysis. The PID controller is developed to improve the performance of the Automatic
Voltage Regulator. The controller is designed based on the mathematical model of the system. It was
Simulated a one machine control to check if the PID controller is possible to increase or decrease voltage
according to requirement. The automatic voltage control quality influences the voltage level during steady
state operation, and also reduces the voltage oscillations during operation, affecting the overall system
stability.

Introduction:
Automatic voltage regulator is able to control the system voltage as per to our requirement having
operation on of different electrical systems it is necessary to maintain a desired level voltage because all
of the electrical appliances have to be operated on a constant voltage and if we are having high voltage or
under voltage at consumer end then this can be harmful for the system to overcome upcoming fault we
can use AVR to maintain voltage. By using this technique we can easily maintain voltage. We use PID
controller to feed back system and as the voltage is to be reduced or to high we have to just tap the system
with sensors. It is shown that the appropriate selection of PID controller parameters results in satisfactory
performance during system upsets. Thus, the optimal tuning of a PID gains is required to get the desired
level of robust performance. For better performances a fuzzy logic controller is used which improves
stability manifolds.
