MY REVIEWS

The concern of the high level education and in conjunction with the essentials of master in
English language requires most of the teachers should be master with all the requirements
needs as English teacher. What we are going to discuss today is related to what we as an
English teacher needs to concern in order to provide high quality education to our students.
As we know, our main topic to discuss is the ELT curriculum reforms in Malaysia have been
attributed to the process of globalization. These reforms are made in line with the changes
based on local, regional and global needs. As what I said earlier, the concern about the
importance of English language bring us here in this round table to discuss more about what
we have collected all these while.

I have been collected more than six articles related to our topic today but after do some
reading and summarising; I decided to select the best six articles that I want to share today.
All the articles were written by students or lecturer from different university or college. I hope
that what I am going to share here is acceptable because I get these articles from one book
entitle Englishes in Asia: Communication, identity, power and education. This books
consists lots of articles written by different people from different universities and colleges.
One of the articles in this book is written by Azirah Hashim from Faculty of Languages and
Linguistics, University of Malaya. She was concern in her writing about the multiracial in
Malaysia and the needs of compromise among racial and the focus of the national and
ethnic culture although social grouping may often not have any significant ethnic or national
qualities. English was given the status of official language for ten years after independence
and after that, it became the second language of the country and it continuously until now.

My second article was written by Bawani Selvaraj from UT MARA Kedah about the ELT
Curriculum Reforms in Malaysia which is crucial to the educational development of this
country. She mentions about the phase of the educational development in Malaysia and how
the ELT curriculum became the cornerstone of reforms in Malaysia. Curriculum reform is
about changes to the content and organization of what is taught, within the constraints of
social, economic and political contexts. The third article was written by Mina Patel about the
ETeMS project in Malaysia: English for the Teaching of Mathematics and Science. The
project was to ensure the people will try to master in English prior to the need of this
language in business.

The fourth article is about the and ELT Teacher Training curriculum: The Learner Variability
by Abdul Ghani Hj. Abu from University Pendidkan Sultan Idris and Prof. Dr. Hj. Rosli Talif
from University Putra Malaysia. They were mention in their writing how difficult to designing
curriculum for the teaching of English and the challenges that await the teachers in the
classroom. They also mention about the important of independent learning in the 21st
century education system and we can see it now where the Ministry of the Education
introduce the KSSR and KSSM.

The fifth article is about the Recognition and Respect: Globalization Culture and Malaysia
Education by James Campbell from Deakin University. He was mention about the educators
need to adapt in order to compete or maintain relevance in contemporary society. Besides,
the author tried to make people concerned about the progress of the identification of some
languages with modern progress and other languages. The sixth articles is entitle from
curriculum reform to classroom practise wrote by Nor Haslynda A. Rahman. She wrote
about the effectiveness of the Standard Curriculum for Primary School (SCPS) for English in
three dimensions such as the clarity and usefulness of the curriculum documentation, the
effectiveness of the curriculum dissemination process and the implementation of the
curriculum in the classroom.
