RESUMO
The policies developed in Brazil involving the multiple dimensions of food and
nutrition have gained new direction from the Organic Law of Food and
Nutritional Security (LOSAN). The National Food and Nutrition Policy (PNAN) of
2011 brought as purpose the improvement of food, nutrition and health of the
Brazilian population, by, among other strategies, the promotion of appropriate
and healthy food practices. In this context is inserted the Food and Nutritional
Education (EAN). The Landmark of EAN for Public Policy is a national
document that sees education as a path to the realization of the human right to
adequate food and for building a healthy Brazil. Along with their preparation
comes the challenge to all government sectors and civil society to disseminate it
among the more diverse actors and agents that promote educational activities
in the area of food and nutrition in the country. The Mesa Brasil Sesc Rio
Programme, like one of these agents promoters of EAN is the area of this study,
whose general objective is to perform an analysis of educational activities
developed in the unit under the light of the Landmark of EAN to Public Policies.
This study is characterized as a qualitative research and has descriptive and
analytical character. Three projects developed by the unit served as objects for
the study and were analyzed from reading two chapters of the Landmark. It was
concluded that the scarcity of scientific material related to the practice of EAN in
food banks suggests this as a comprehensive theoretical-practical field to be
worked. Particularly in Mesa Brasil Sesc Rio unit, is necessary a restructuring of
the planning and support of its activities. The application of the principles of
strategic planning is an alternative to be obtained better results in the short and
long term.
