Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Snow White. She lived with her

Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. There they found

Half of all heart patients make medication errors

(Reuters Health) - Half of all heart patients made at least one medication-related

mistake after leaving the hospital, and guidance from a pharmacist didn't seem to

reduce those errors, in a new study.

Consequences of mistakes - such as forgetting to take certain drugs or taking the

wrong dose - can range from side effects like constipation to more serious drops in

blood pressure. Two percent of errors were life-threatening.

Hospitals involved in the study were already taking steps to prevent medication

mistakes in addition to the extra pharmacist intervention, said Dr. Sunil Kripalani,

the study's lead author from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville,

Tennessee.

"We were surprised to see that in spite of these efforts that 50 percent (of patients)

were still having these medication errors," he told Reuters Health.

Although the pharmacist visits didn't help the average patient, he added, certain

ones seemed to benefit - such as patients who were on multiple drugs or had

trouble understanding health information.

As for traditionally lower-risk patients, he said other strategies to prevent errors

may be needed.

Use of Formalin and Other Additives in Foods

The use of formalin and other dangerous preservatives in food has been serious

problem for three reasons. Firstly, formalin is not for human beings, but it is for

biological specimens and experiments. Formalin in Biology is a 10% solution of

formaldehyde in water which is usually used as a disinfectant or to preserve

biological specimens. Thus, it is not for food preservatives. Of course when it is

used for food preservative, it will be very dangerous to humans body.

The second reason is that there is no tight control from the government. This

condition makes the peoples health is really in a threat. When the control is weak

and the use formalin was spread wide all over the Indonesian regions, and these
days it has really happened, the citizen's bodies will be badly contaminated with

the poisons. Fish or food traders still sell their products which contain formalin and

dangerous preservatives. Can you imagine that our digestive system absorbs the

substance that should be for the human and animal corpses?

Considering the reasons, we can make a conclusion that the use of formalin and

other preservatives is really a serious problem if it is not resolved immediately.

1. Why is formalin dangerous for human`s body?

A. It is not food preservatives.

B. It is a disinfectant for human beings.

C. It is used to preserve biological specimens.

D. It is 10% solution of formaldehyde in water.

2. The main idea of paragraph 2 is ....

A. the human`s bodies will be harmful after consuming the formalin

B. the government has not controlled the use of formalin firmly.

C. the weak control of using formalin is not threatening the human

D. the human`s bodies will be harmful after consuming the formalin

E. the use of formalin is known all over the regions

3. Based on the facts above, the writer suggest that ...

A. people have to avoid consuming formalin in their food

B. the use of formal dehyde is necessary to control the food

C. people should add 100% solution of formaldehyde in water

D. the food preservative is required to make the food delicious

E. food seller is supposed to pour formalin for vegetables and food products

Integrated Pest Management

There is no best way to deal with pests in agriculture. Pesticides which are

commonly used may cause many problems. I think combining different

management operations is the most effective way to control pests.

Firstly, the chemicals in the pesticides may build up as residues in the environment

and in the soil which absorbs the chemicals. This reduces the quality of farm

product.
Secondly, pests can gradually become resistant to pesticides. This means that

newer and stronger ones have to be developed.

Lastly, some pesticides affect non target plants and animals such as fish and bees.

This affects the ecology and environment as well.

So, understanding of ecology of an area helps a lot in pest control. Pesticides

should be chosen and applied carefully so that they don't affect the ecological

balance and environment.

Therefore, integrated pest management is a safe and more effective option to fight

pest in agriculture and livestock.

1. Which of the following is not directly affected by pesticides used?

A. Plants

B. Ecology

C. Animals.

D. Environment.

E. Human Beings
2. What can you say about paragraph two and four?

A. The fourth paragraph supports the idea stated in paragraph two.

B. Both paragraphs tell about the disadvantages of using pesticides.

C. Both paragraphs tell about how pesticides affect the quality of farm products.

D. The statement in paragraph is contrary to the statement in paragraph four.

E. The second paragraph tells about the effects of using pesticides on animals

mentioned in paragraph four.

3. One of the disadvantages of using chemical pesticides is

A. killing fish and bees.

B. increasing crops productivity.

C. creating balanced ecosystem.

D. causing the pests to become inactive

E. helping reduce pollutants in the environment.

4. Secondly, pests can gradually become resistant to pesticides. (paragraph 3)

The word resistant in the sentence above means

A. weak

B. fragile

C. damage

D. unaffected

Government should not raise fuel price to solve the problem of economic issues.

People were affected severely with the high fuel price like last year. Obviously

they cut their spending. As an example, they had to buy lower quality of rice or

palm oil. There were also fewer buyers of secondary commodities like flour, or

canned meat or fish.

Furthermore, the condition of low income family will become even worse because

their expenses will increase while their salaries will not. Many companies will
have to trim the number of employees because they are incapable of managing,

buying or selling price, standard wages and personal affairs.

Anybody who is over the age of six knows that there is nowhere safe for

skateboarders to skate. This prevents young people from enjoying an active,

energetic and adventurous pastime.

Just watch a local street for a short while and note the steady stream of skaters

speeding up and down the footpaths. Toddlers can be trampled on and old ladies

can be knocked down as they struggle home carrying their cat food from

supermarkets.

Skateboarding is a serious sport that improves young peoples health. It increases

fitness, improves balance and strengthens the joints in knees and ankles. Although

it appears to be a solo sport, when groups practice together and compete to perform

stunts or runs they form firm friendships.

Young people should be prevented from becoming overweight couch potatoes. If

they are actively involved in skating, they do not smoke, take drugs or break laws

for fun.
Kids will always seek thrills and excitement. They need to practice their 180s, 360s

For many years people believed that the cleverest animals after man were the

chimpanzees. Now, however, there is a proof that dolphins may be even cleverer

than these big apes.

Although a dolphin lives in the sea, it is not a fish. It is a mammal. It is in many

ways, therefore, like a human being.

Dolphins have a simple language. They are able to talk to one another. It may be

possible for man to learn how to talk to dolphins. But, this will not be easy because

dolphins cannot hear the kind of sounds man can make. If man wants to talk to

dolphins, therefore, he will have to make a third language which both he and the

dolphins can understand.

Dolphins are also very friendly toward man. They often follow ships. There are

many stories about dolphins guiding ships through difficult and dangerous waters.

explanation

Human body is made up of countless millions of cells. Food is needed to built up

new cells and replace the worn out cells. However, the food that we take must be

changed into substances that can be carried in the blood to the places where they

are needed. This process is called digestion.

The first digestive process takes place in the mouth. The food we eat is broken up

into small pieces by the action of teeth, mixed with saliva, a juice secreted by

glands in the mouth. Saliva contains digestive juice which moisten the food, so it

can be swallowed easily.

From the mouth, food passes through the esophagus (the food passage) into the

stomach. Here, the food is mixed with the juices secreted by the cells in the

stomach for several hours. Then the food enters the small intestine. All the time the

muscular walls of the intestine are squeezing, mixing and moving the food

onwards.

HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE

Have you ever wondered how people get chocolate from? In this article we'll enter

the amazing world of chocolate so you can understand exactly what you're eating.

Chocolate starts with a tree called the cacao tree. This tree grows in equatorial

regions, especially in places such as South America, Africa, and Indonesia. The

cacao tree produces a fruit about the size of a small pine apple. Inside the fruit are

the tree's seeds, also known as cocoa beans.

The beans are fermented for about a week, dried in the sun and then shipped to the

chocolate maker. The chocolate maker starts by roasting the beans to bring out the

flavour. Different beans from different places have different qualities and flavor, so

they are often sorted and blended to produce a distinctive mix. Next, the roasted

beans are winnowed. Winnowing removes the meat nib of the cacao bean from its

discussion

Muslim's Headscarf

The right to freedom of religion is enshrined in the UN charter and considered by

many to be a basic human right. Some religions require special diet, others prayer

at specific times. Why should a religious mode of dress receive as much protection

as these other aspects of religious freedom?

Many Muslim women view the veil as a means to protect their modesty and

privacy. Just as we would not force any women to be seen in public in her

underwear if she did not feel comfortable doing so, why should a woman be forced

to show her hair if she does not want to? Modesty is a personal judgment call;

some are comfortable in the smallest bikini while others prefer a lot more clothing.

No one but the woman herself should make that decision.

Muslim women are not the only ones to feel coerced over their mode of dress.

Most people are affected by the societal norms surrounding them. Fashion trends

could be seen in exactly the same light as religious traditions.

Banning head coverings is only likely to provoke a more extreme reaction among
highly religious communities. Framing laws to ban only Islamic forms of dress

could be considered an attack on one religion. Feeling under attack could cause the

Islamic community to close off into itself. They could set up religious schools

where their children can dress as they want them to and not mix with children from

other faiths. These effects could never be good for the integration of society and

would further the influence of extremists. Internationally, the perceived attack on

Islamic values would inflame wider Muslim opinion, feed conspiracy theories and

add to the dangerous feeling that there is a clash of civilizations.

Intolerant schools make up problems as an excuse for not allowing Muslims

freedom of religious expression. In a multicultural society, students should be

aware of the different religious practise and cultural traditions of their classmates,

and be taught to understand and respect these. Without such respect, Muslims and

other groups with distinctive dress, such as Orthodox Jews and Sikhs, will be

driven out of mainstream education and forced to educate their children separately,

which will really create divisions and alienation.

Based on the above discussion, the government should not banned Muslims

headscarf as a part of school or office uniforms.

1. What does the text discuss?

b. It is to protect their modesty and privacy.

c. It is a fashion trend among them.

d. They feel being forced to wear it.

e. It is what their parents told them to wear.

3. Paragraph 4 tells us that banning on Muslim headscarf could

a. arouse social conflict among social communities.

b. maintain solidarity among social communities.

c. provoke a more extreme reaction among highly religious communities

d. teach students social awareness.

e. make Muslim women lose their identity.

freedom of religious expression (paragraph 5)

The sentence implies

a. Muslims freedom of religious expression may cause problems.

Most people agree that some form of family limitation or spacing is desirable for

the good of the family and society. But individuals and groups especially

religious groupsdiffer sharply on the methods of birth control that they consider

moral and acceptable.

Couples that practice birth control do so for various reasons. They may want to

limit or space their children or to have no children at all. Young couples often

postpone having children so that both partners can work full-time. Other couples

space their children so they can give each child as much attention as possible.

Some women are advised by their doctors to avoid pregnancy for health reasons. In

many countries with rapidly growing populations, the government encourages

couples to limit the size of their families.

Even though birth control has gained in acceptance, opposition to the practice is

continuous. Some people fear that birth control encourages sexual relations outside

marriage or that government might impose birth control. Some religious groups

oppose birth control on moral grounds.

Some religious groups teach that artificial methods of birth control are immoral

2012 Film

2012 is Roland Emmerich's film which uses the Mayan calendar and other endof-

days prophecies for their doomsday scenario. It images the world coming to an end

in 2012.

2012 film brings off a series of wonders. The movie hits its peak early on. It starts

when Cussack drives a limo through the streets of Los Angeles as freeways and

skyscrapers crumble all round him from the shock of a 10.5 R.S. earthquake. The

preposterous flying sequence is equally thrilling. The climax occurs aboard the
giant ark, when an equipment malfunction threatens almost the entire mission.

Unfortunately, the crucial sequence is not filmed or edited with the necessary

clarity. In 2012 film, Emmerich leaves us confused as to exactly what is happening

to whom. However, Emmerich' 2012 deserves credit for casting Cussack.

McCarthy has perhaps his best role ever as Peet's cocky. Danny Glover lends

dignity to the role of the president. Chiwetel Ejiofor, as the chief scientist, brings a

moving sense of anguish to a stock role. Piatt has fun playing the villain of the

piece, and Woody Harrelson also chews the scenery as a bugeyed radio prophet

trying to warm his listeners about Armagedon.

All in one, 2012's cinematography, production design and visual effects are

awards-worthy. Music also propels the movie. It presents American Idol runner-up.

Adam Lambert, who provides a rousing anthem over the end credits.

B. Roland Emmerich will make a 2012 film

The Blonde and the Lawyer

A blonde and a lawyer are seated next to each other on a flight from LA to NY.

The lawyer asks if she would like to play a fun game.

The blonde, tired, just wants to take a nap, politely declines and rolls over to the

window to catch a few winks.

The lawyer persists and explains that the game is easy and a lot of fun.

He explains, "I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me

lawyer, "your turn."

She asks the lawyer, "What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with

references, no answer. He taps into the air phone with his modem and searches the

net and the library of congress, no answer. Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his

friends and coworkers, to no avail. After an hour, he wakes the blonde, and hands

her $500.00.

The blonde says, "Thank you", and turns back to get some more sleep.

Last holiday, my class made a trip to Anyer. We rented a bus to take us there. On

the way, I felt the urgent need to use the bus toilet.

I was sure that I had locked the door by turning the handle, but as soon as I slipped

off my pants. The bus hit a bump and then the door flew open. I stumbled out into
