GRAMMAR

The Focus of this Lesson is the Usage of the Vrb mau, or "want"
Mau makan apa?
"What do you want to eat?"

When you want to express a desire to do something, you simply use the auxiliary mau, or
"want," followed by some verb. The verb, as typical in Indonesian, does not need to be
conjugated in any way, unlike in many Indo-European languages.

mau + verb

Apa (or)

To express two or more options in a list, the interrogative pronoun apa, or "what," may be
used as a conjunction with a function similar to the English word "or," which is to give an initial
option and its alternatives.

Noun 1 + apa + Noun 2

The Most Popular Indonesian

Breakfast

In many areas of Indonesia, one of the most filling meals you can have is bubur, a porridge
made by boiling rice in plenty of water over a low flame. Regional variations and flavorings
are possible by the blank slate provided by the porridge. Some versions include a chicken
broth and various condiments like noodles, chopped garlic and scallions, and chili sauce.
This is a favorite meal in the morning, but most people enjoy bubur at any time of the day.
