Department Overview

Our mission and goals

The primary mission of the Department is
to serve society through research and
education in agricultural and
environmental technologies.
We take an engineering approach towards
developing agricultural production
systems in harmony with the environment.
This approach will help us realize our goal of an ideal rural
community, where the residents can enjoy the amenity and
beauty of rural lifestyles, and benefit from sustainable
agricultural production and efficient marketing systems.

Accreditation for education

Our education program was accredited by JABEE (Japan

Accreditation Board for Engineering Education) since
1993.
JABEE was established in 1999 for the purpose to promote professional education
and to support fostering international professionals. JABEE, as a third-party
accreditation body, accredits professional education programs in higher education
institutions fostering professionals with benchmarks required by the society by JABEE
Accreditation Criteria which is internationally equivalent. JABEE examination respects
the originality of education programs and encourages programs to continuously
improve education through examination.
JABEE accredits education programs with JABEE accreditation criteria in accordance
with the concept of each accord: Washington Accord for engineering education
programs, Seoul Accord for Computing & IT-related education programs and
UNESCO-UIA for architectural education programs.

Iiyama Lab. (Environmental soil physics)

To clarify the material cycling rates,

and to evaluate adequate rates with which
we can wisely utilize natural resources,
This lab.. evaluates transport rates and quantities
of water, gases and energy
in soils where
the material cycling
can be regulated.

Subjects in the lab. include

monitoring water or gas fluxes in soils
in seasonal or annual scale,
quantifying the transport and retention parameters,
and analyzing the water or the gaseous behaviors
in numerical schemes.

Osawa Lab. (Land and soil engineering)

Soil erosion on farmlands Active coral reef

Ecological farming

Damaged coral reef

Soil erosion and sediment and nutrients runoff have

led to agricultural and environmental problems in
Okinawa, and effective measures which can reduce
sediment yield in the farmland are necessary.

Research Interest:
Water quality, soil quality and watershed-scale
conservation effects assessment, especially soil erosion on
agricultural land and sediment management for agricultural
watershed.
Feature: 190cm (6 feet 3 inches) height
Home town:
Ota city, Gunma pref. <--> Sister city to Lafayette
In my home town, Ota city

There is big factory of SUBARU

From April 2014
Fortunately, I have got the fund to research abroad.
A professor (Taku Nishimura, The University of Tokyo) introduced
me a researcher (Prof. Chi Hua Huang) at the USDA-National Soil
Erosion Research Laboratory (NSERL) on the campus of Purdue
University.
I will spend one year at the USDA-NSERL to conduct cooperative
research in soil erosion processes and prediction.
