E-GYAN, PART-37
SEPTEMBER-2016
FOREWORD

An elephant and a dog became pregnant at same time. Three months down the line the
dog gave birth to six puppies. Six months later the dog was pregnant again, and after
nine months, it gave birth to another dozen puppies. The pattern continued.

On the eighteenth month the dog approached the elephant questioning, Are you sure
that you are pregnant? We became pregnant on the same date, I have given birth three
times to a dozen puppies and they are now grown to become big dogs, yet you are still
pregnant. Whats going on?

The elephant replied, There is something I want you to understand. What I am

carrying is not a puppy but an elephant. I only give birth to one in two years. When my
baby hits the ground, the earth feels it. When my baby crosses the road, human
beings stop and watch in admiration, what I carry draws attention. So what I'm
carrying is mighty and great."

Don't lose faith when you see others receive answers to their prayers. Dont be
envious of others testimony. If you haven't received your own blessings, dont
despair. Say to yourself My time is coming, and when it hits the surface of the earth,
people shall yield in admiration.

Our small contribution to the SBI community in the direction of creating awareness is
the current release of e-GYAN for September, 2016 which emphasizes on conceptual
clarity, process integrity and procedural consistency in the field of day to day banking
practices and explores the causes and consequences of various typical situations.

Hope you like it!

We deeply acknowledge the inspiration derived from our Deputy General Manager &
Circle Development Officer Shri. Radhakrishna Rayabharam and Chief Manager (L&D)
Shri. K Muralidhar, which resulted in coming out with the e-editions.

THE 4 PARTS OF VISUALIZATION
Compiled by Sri. R Krishna Murthy, AGM

Did you know that there are 4 parts of visualization that you can learn and practice to assure
that you use this incredible power to its best advantage all the days of your life?

How Often?

The first aspect of visualization is frequency. This is number of times that you visualize
yourself performing in an excellent way, in a particular event or circumstance, to achieve a
particular goal. The more frequently you repeat a clear mental picture of your very best
performance or result, the more rapidly it will appear as part of your reality.

How Long?

The second element of visualization is the duration of the mental image, the length of time
that you can hold the picture in your mind each time you replay it. When you deeply relax,
you can often hold a mental picture of yourself performing at your best for several seconds,
and even several minutes. The longer you can hold your mental picture, the more deeply it
will be impressed into your subconscious mind and the more rapidly it will express itself in
your subsequent performance.

How Clearly?

The third element of visualization is vividness. There is a direct relationship between how
clearly you can see your desired goal or result in your mind and how quickly it comes into
your reality. This element of visualization is what explains the powers of the Law of Attraction
and the Law of Correspondence. The vividness of your desire directly determines how
quickly it materializes in the world around you.

Here is an interesting point: When you set a new goal for yourself, your image or picture of
this goal will usually be vague and fuzzy. But the more often you write it, review it, and repeat
it mentally, the clearer it becomes for you. Eventually, it will become crystal clear. At that
point, the goal will suddenly appear in your world exactly as you imagined it.

How Intensely?
The fourth element of visualization is intensity, the amount of emotion that you attach to your
visual image. In reality, this is the most important and powerful part of the visualization
process. Sometimes, if your emotion is intense enough and your visual image is clear
enough, you will immediately achieve it.

e-gyan by SBLC, Masulipatnam, September, 2016 Page 4

Of course, the elements of frequency, duration, vividness, and intensity can help you or hurt
you. Like nature, the power of visualization is neutral. Like a two-edged sword, it can cut in
either direction. It can either make you a success or make you a failure. Visualization brings
you whatever you vividly and intensely imagine, whether good or bad.

Action Exercise

Continually feed your mind with clear, exciting, emotional pictures. Remember, your
imagination is your preview of life's coming attractions.

ATM SECURITY TIPS

Compiled by Smt. B Savithri, Chief Manager (Training)

The Bank has been receiving complaints of fraudsters using debit card information, which
they source from our customers through phone calls, ATM skimming, photographing the
debit card etc., to withdraw cash or purchase items on e-commerce sites. While the facility of
restricting debit card usage is available on the Internet Banking platform of the Bank, we had
to find a way to provide our customers with a simple but effective solution to curb this
menace.

While restricting debit card usage would reduce the chances of misuse, customers are
advised not to share their card details and PIN number with anyone, not even with Bank
officials. Change the PIN to one that can be easily remembered but is difficult for others to
guess. When using at restaurants, supermarkets etc, never let the card go out of sight. When
using the card at an ATM, make sure to cover the view of the PIN pad with one hand while
entering the PIN with the other. Always keep the mobile number, email ID and other contact
details updated with the Bank for alerts on transactions that happen on the account.

The Bank has also started sending messages to a few customers who have not used their
ATM cards for online transactions for more than a year as a precautionary measure as
below-

Your debit card ending with xx6316 has been deactivated only for internet transactions. To
activate send sms "SWON ECOM 6316" to 09223966666 No change for ATM/POS usage."

The customer has to send SMS from his registered mobile number that is linked to his
account for switching on the service for his ATM card.

This facility is also available in SBI Quick Missed Call Banking which involves Banking by
giving Missed Call or sending an SMS with pre-defined keywords to pre-defined mobile
numbers. SBI Quick App can be downloaded from respective App store for Android,
Windows, iOS or Blackberry phones. Internet connection is not necessary for using this App.

Registration Process:

It involves a onetime registration from the mobile number available in bank's records for that
particular account.

SMS, REG (space) account number' to 09223488888

e.g. REG 12345678901

Confirmation message will be received indicating successful/unsuccessful registration.

e-gyan by SBLC, Masulipatnam, September, 2016 Page 6

If successful then you can start using the services.

If unsuccessful:

1. Check the format and destination mobile number

2. Ensure that your mobile number is updated with the Bank for that account number by
visiting the Home Branch.

This App can also be used for a few ATM related services too.

Blocking of ATM Card

You can block the ATM Card linked to the registered account in case of loss / theft.

Send a SMS BLOCK (space) XXXX to 567676

(XXXX represents last 4 digit of the card number).
On acceptance of the request for blocking, you will get a confirmatory SMS alert that contains
the ticket number, date and time of blocking.

Note that ATM Card can also be blocked through the following means:

By calling State Bank Contact Centre.

By visiting any nearest State Bank Branch
By logging on to OnlineSBI (only for personal segment customers).

SBI Quick: SMS and Missed Call banking service can also be used to activate/deactivate
usage of the debit card on the following locations/platforms:
ATM, Point of Sale (POS), E-commerce websites, International Usage, Domestic Usage.

ATM Card Usage Configuration

You can now control your ATM Card channel of usage by sending an SMS from your
registered mobile number. You can choose to activate/deactivate usage at ATM, POS,
E-Commerce, International and Domestic Usage with SBI Quick SMS service
Send an SMS SWON/ SWOFF ATM/ POS/ ECOM/ INTL/ DOM XXXX to 09223966666
(XXXX represents last 4 digit of the card number).
e.g. SWON POS 1234 to activate POS usage SWOFF INTL 1234 to deactivate International
usage

On acceptance of the request for activation/deactivation, you will get a confirmatory SMS
alert that contains the reference number, date and time of request.

BREACH OF SECURITY IN PAYMENT GATEWAYS

Compiled by Sri. P.Padma Babu Goud, Chief Manager (Trg)

According to a statement issued by the NPCI, 641 customers complaints from 19 banks
have been received and the amount involved is Rs1.3 Crores. According to RBI norms, if
the customer is not responsible for a fraudulent transaction, then the bank will be liable to
pay compensation.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the domestic payment gateway, has urged
debit card customers whose data has been compromised, not to panic as all the necessary
actions have been taken to deal with the fiasco. Necessary corrective actions already have
been taken and hence there is no reason for bank customers to panic, said A.P. Hota, MD &
CEO, NPCI. The advisory issued by NPCI to banks for re-issue of cards is more a preventive
exercise, he added.

Banks alerted:

All affected banks have been alerted by all card networks that a total card base of about 3.2
million could have been possibly compromised, the statement said. The total debit card base
of the country is 697 million.

According to the NPCI, the problem was detected when some bank customers complained
that their cards were used fraudulently mainly in China and U.S while customers were in
India.

Suspecting that it could be a case of card data compromise, all the three payment gateways
that operate in India RuPay, Visa and MasterCard swung into action in September.

It was established through the analysis after such frauds were reported that there was a
possible compromise at one of the payment switch providers system. Based on the analysis,
NPCI and other schemes identified the period of compromise and the possible card numbers
which could have been compromised during that period, the NPCI said.

State Bank of India (SBI), the countrys largest lender which is in the process of replacing
over 0.6 million debit cards, corroborated the NPCIs views.

Card network companies NPCI, Master card and Visa had informed various banks in India
about a potential risk to some cards in India owing to a data breach. Accordingly, State Bank
of India (SBI) has taken precautionary measures and has blocked cards of certain customers
identified by the networks, the SBI said.

e-gyan by SBLC, Masulipatnam, September, 2016 Page 12

Hitachi said it had appointed an external audit agency certified by payment Card Industry
(PCI) in the first week of September, to check the security of systems for any breach or
compromise based on a few suspected transactions that were highlighted by banks for which
it manages ATM networks.

Forensic audit:

Yes Bank has also appointed a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) for a forensic
audit of its systems and processes. It has proactively undertaken a comprehensive review of
its ATMs, and there is no evidence of a breach or compromise on Yes Bank ATMs - the bank
said. Yes Bank continues to work with relevant stake holders to ensure utmost safety and
security of its ATM network and payment services which are completely safe to use, it
added.

Onus on vigilance:

In the wake of skimming of data from several thousands of debit card accounts, cyber
security experts have suggested using the safe banking feature that gives an option to
generate virtual credit or debit cards with a set spending limit valid for a one-time use.

Banks should :

Establish real-time monitoring systems

Adopt solutions to proactively address adversaries
Create awareness among employees as well as customers.

Steps that Consumers should take:

Change ATM pins irrespective of whether the card is affected.

Use passwords with a mix of letters & special characters.
Never share ATM PIN.
Protect online transaction using security software
Think before you click on any link.

Customers must be doubly vigilant: Security experts

With India hit by one of its biggest financial security breaches compromising hundreds of
thousands of debit cards, customers need to be doubly vigilant. Consumers should consider
changing their passwords used for any financial transactions through accounts such as net
banking, debit or credit cards or even mobile wallets, even if they havent been contacted by
their banks as potentially impacted (by the debit card data breach), recommends Symantec
corporations Managing Director (India) Shrikant Shitole.

e-gyan by SBLC, Masulipatnam, September, 2016 Page 13

Essential precautions:

Mr. Shitole cautions that account holders should use strong password, change them every
three months, and never reuse a password. He also cautioned - Opening the wrong
attachment can also introduce a malware to your system. Never view, open or copy mail
attachments unless you are expecting the email attachments unless you are expecting the
email and trust the sender,

Saket Modi, co-founder of cyber security firm lucideus, suggests that instead of having just
one debit card, consumers should keep at least 3-4 cards and use the one with the lest
balance while shopping outside. Mr. Modi recommends using the safe banking features that
provide the option of generating virtual credit or debit cards with a set spending limit, valid
only for one-time use. Alternatively, switch to the United Payments Interface, which is
considered safer than debit cards.

Who bears the loss?

Asked about the implications for the victims of cybercrimes, cyber law expert Pawan Duggal
says, The law is very clear. All banks are intermediaries under the Income Tax act. Under
Section 79 of the Act they are mandated to do due diligence.

In case banks are negligent in doing this, leading to a loss, it is the banks that will have to
bear the brunt of the loss, Mr. Duggal says. However, a bank may not be liable if it asks the
customer to change his or her PIN but the customer chooses to ignore the advice.

1.Wether there is any specified cut off loan amount for submission of irregularity reports to controllers . 2. Any

specified format provided by Bank. Query is submission of irregularity reports is in respect of NBG branch

Dear Sir, In respect of SME loans, it is necessary to report irregularities in working capital limits, Term
Loans, non-fund based limits (included) occurring during a month in the subsequent month and at
monthly intervals thereafter, till the account is regularised. However, in case of irregularities occurring
only in non-fund based facilities, initial reporting alone would suffice and no subsequent reporting is
necessary, where no fresh exposure is contracted in the facility. Please refer to Manual on Loans and
Advances Chapter 3, page 278 In case of 'Per' or 'Agri" segment loans, irregularity report format for
individual reporting is to be made as per the Annexure -II placed in the Chapter 21 of Manual on Loans &
advances Part 3. The simple listing of such reporting is placed in Circular CCFO/ADV/123/06-07 dated
03.07.2006.
