Introduction
A curriculum pacing guide is a framework you can reference to help guide your instruction in Pre-K.
Using a curriculum pacing guide can help you organize and plan your instructional strategies for the
entire school year. It can help determine when to teach required skills so you can focus on how to
best teach those skills to the students in your classroom.

The information contained in this document can be used as a reference by Pre-K teachers. There
are helpful resources listed throughout that you can use in your classroom to support and
supplement your instructional strategies. Click on any of the highlighted words or images within to
be taken directly to those resources.

Of course, you are always free to adjust your own instructional strategies and supplement
whenever necessary to best meet the needs of your students.

Have a great year!

Note: This curriculum pacing guide is organized by week so you can use it no matter when your school year starts or
ends. Some topics of study last for two weeks and others for only one depending on the depth of the topic and
time of the year. Please feel free to adjust the timing or pace of the topics to best meet the specific instructional
needs of your students.

WHY? Collecting and analyzing student performance data helps teachers make informed instructional decisions
that will best help their students succeed. Effective assessment drives instruction.

WHEN? Assessing at the beginning of the year is important to get an understanding of where your students are so
you can help guide them through their next stage of development. Assessing in the middle of the year lets you
know if your instructional strategies are on the right track and what changes need to be made. Assessing at the end
of the school year isnt just for informing parents or sending along to the next teacher, it should also be used by the
teacher to reflect on any instructional adjustments that might be considered for next school year.

WHAT? Collect data that will give you the best understanding of where your students are in their stages of learning.
Then, take that data and use it to inform your instruction.

ASSESSMENT TOOLS: I created these simple assessment recording forms, a progress report, and an electronic report
card. These tools can help you organize and streamline your assessment process. The electronic report card can be
filled out quickly and has a variety of pre-written comments for all areas of development for you to choose from.

I have also used a super helpful electronic assessment tool called ESGI that saves hours of valuable time. ESGI is a
simple assessment platform that can help you quickly gather student performance data and automatically
generate multiple reports.

The data collected in ESGI can be used for identifying individuals or groups for targeted instruction. That means ESGI
will interpret your data and create your small groups for you!

With ESGI you can choose from 100's of pre-loaded tests or CREATE YOUR OWN custom tests in minutestest exactly
what you need, when you need it! ESGI can also help you keep parents informed of student progress by
automatically generating parent letters in English AND Spanish as well as personalized, printable flash cards specific
to each student.

Get a 60 day FREE trial of ESGI and use promo code PREKPAGES to save $40 off your first year!
