Analyzing Jew
This word, when used by Jewish people, is just a shortened term for our identity. When used by
others, it is a dehumanizing term to avoid calling us people or acknowledging our
intersectionality in any space other than that of the Jew. Here are 10 examples of different
usages of the term, running from positive to negative, from textbooks to television shows to
everyday conversation and Facebook messages.
My intent is to show that, like in Kendrick Lamars song, and like with many other group-
specific words, Jew is not for others to reclaim, it is for us to do. Its for us to use, to identify
each other and to create familiarity and sympathy with each other. When others do it, it is always
to otherize, degrade, and dehumanize. For the record, the better way to phrase a discussion on
Jewish people would be to say Jewish people or Jewish person, because we are people and
individuals.
1) In a Facebook group for Jewish LGBT folks, someone posts Where are my queer
Jews at? I really just need someone to talk to right now. My mother kicked me out of
the house when she found out Im gay. --- about fifteen people responded with
loving reassurance, one even offering to send a pizza.
7) An internet forum suggests that Jews have a toilet paper conspiracy going, worldwide,
casting us a world dominating, greed monsters who seek to control and abuse the masses in
the most absurd ways. This usage of Jew is cleary an example of otherizing. It is the Jew who
does this to them, it is the Jew-ness that, first and foremost, is why they do this. It is the number
one descriptor.
8) The third definition for Jew on Urban Dictionary is someone that you burn. The
first definition is also offensive, Derogatory term for someone tight with their money or
someone not very generous. but acknowledges, at least, that it is derogatory. Many of the other
definitions are also wildly offensive, including the fourth definition A dirty penny saving, bread
crumb eating piece of sub-human garbage. and A person who can be in an oven or an ashtray..
or maybe both.
9) However, if you type in who is a Jew on Google, you are sent to a Jewish-run
website called Judaism 101 that is obviously not using the term to be offensive, but to identify
and include. They break down the cultural and religious laws that include or exclude someone as
Jewish.
10) Controlling the worlds sources of news, Jews can always prepare the minds of
people for their next move. The greatest exposure yet to be made is the way that news is
manufactured and the way in which the mind of whole nations is molded for a purpose. When
the powerful Jew is at last traced and his hand revealed, then comes the ready cry of persecution
and it echoes through the world presss. The real causes of the persecution (which is the
oppression of the people by the financial practices of the Jews) are never given publicity.
Henry Ford Senior in May, 1920.
This man invented the Ford Motor Company that we still support to this day. He also wrote a
book called The International Jew that spread anti-Semitism and globalist conspiracies
world wide that we are still combating. Right here I have just quoted a far reaching and toxic
quote that has birthed conspiracy after conspiracy to the point it is all beyond recognition. Here
is where the Jews run the world, Jews run the banks, Cries of anti-Semitism are just Jewish
tricks, and all the other hateful soundbites sort of stem from.
As we can clearly observe from these varied and powerful quotes, statements, images, websites,
and other pieces of history and writing, it isnt just one way in which this word is used. However,
it is clearly used in a fairly black and white manner; either for or against. Either humanizing and
sympathizing with fellow beings, or dehumanizing and demonizing others. I wrote my paper
on this word so that everyone out there who reads it can just learn what company they put
themselves in when they shorten a term like Jewish people to Jews--- but this same lesson
can be learned with shortening black people to blacks and gay people to gays.
People first language is paramount to humanizing and understanding those around you.
