Unit 4 Task7 Equality and diversity Ana Bocancea

Exercise 3

a) Why it is important to challenge discrimination and promote equality and diversity

in school.
What are the benefits?
Discrimination sounds very personal to me , because all my childhood I was told that I am a
girl and need to work harder, jump higher or just to be able to defend myself when I was
attacked by someone because I needed to prove that I am not worse that a boy. I can tell it
is important to teach children that we are different but we all are human and there is very
unfair and our judgment or comments can lead to deep depressions and very severe
consequences if we admit that someone is week because its gender, colour, religion,
nationality or sexual orientation.
We need to challenge discrimination and inequality, because we are in charge for the next
generation and we need to educate our children, may be in the future no one will suffer in
silence and our children will have an opportunity to feel happy, free, and to follow their
dreams without barriers.
What are the benefits?
1. promote right education
2. promote friendship
3. cultural exchange
4. tolerance
5. respect
6. prevent side effects of being discriminated(low self-esteem, depressions, low confidence)
7. building community cohesion
8. built up relationships of trust
9. fight fear of other cultures or religion
b) Give two examples of how your own attitudes , values and behaviour can impact on
children and young people

My attitude regarding equality and diversity is very clear, I am an legal immigrant

and I was very surprised how kind people can be, even you are considered in some
cases a third class person.
I was lucky enough to receive a kind and tolerant attitude I would like to do my best
to share my experience to the children that even you are from a very poor country
or from a country where is practiced religious fanaticism it doesnt mean you are a
bad person, because when you see a person its country flag it is no on his forehead,
you see an human being with rights and feelings.

I got a very firm attitude that every child has to be educated with religious values
and positive behaviour, but in my opinion every child must to have a chance to
experience other religions and beliefs suitable with his own character and vision.
