Instructor: In this lesson we will cover possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns
in Spanish. Here are some examples of possessive adjectives in English:
My
Your
His
Her
Our
Their
When the noun is plural you would use Mis as in Mis perros Sus as in Sus perros.
Or Nuestros as in Nuestros perros.
Instructor: Are you imitating the Speakers accent? It is very important that you try to
sound exactly like the Spanish speaker.

Instructor: Cmo se dice my dog?
Ren: Y. Y. Y.
Ren: Y. Y.
Mara: Mis gatos. Gatos. Gatos. Mis. Mis. Mis gatos. Mis gatos.
Instructor: Did you notice that the word mi becomes mis when referring to a plural
noun?
Instructor: She just said its my cat. Otra vez Again Listen and repeat.

Ren: Es mi perro.
Mara: Es tu perro?

Ren: Es mi casa. Es mi casa.
Ren: S, es mi casa.
Instructor: There is another way to say they are in Spanish when referring to a
temporary condition or location. But for this lesson, use the word son when saying
they are.

Ren: Son tus gatos?
Instructor: He just asked Are they your cats? Listen and repeat.
Instructor: Did you notice that the word tu becomes tus when referring to a plural
noun?
Ren: Mis casas son tus casas. Mis casas son tus casas.

Ren: Es tu mesa? Es tu mesa?
Ren: Es tu silla?
Instructor: Note that su silla can mean either his chair or her chair. Su silla can
also mean your chair if speaking to someone who you normally address by Mr. or Mrs.
And su silla can also mean their chair and your chair if speaking to a group of
people.

Instructor: Otra vez, cmo se pregunta: Is it his chair??
Instructor: Did you remember that her chairs is said the same way as his chairs?
Instructor: Remember that their chairs is said the same way as his chairs?
Instructor: Now imagine that you are speaking to a group of people, pointing to several
tables, ask Are they your tables?
Instructor: Imagine that you are speaking to a couple, pointing to a cat, ask Is it your
cat?

Mara: S, es nuestro gato.
Mara: No, no son nuestros perros. Nuestros. No, no son nuestros perros.
Instructor: Remember, if a noun is plural, the possessive adjective must also be plural.
Say our dog.
Instructor: When referring to our houses you must say nuestras instead of
nuestros because possessive adjectives must match the nouns gender and casas is a
feminine word.

Ren: Abrigo. El abrigo. Abrigo.
Instructor: Now imagine that your friend is looking for her coat at a crowded fiesta or
party. She picks up a coat. Ask her if its her coat.
Instructor: Pointing to another woman at the party, how does your friend say Its her
coat.
Instructor: The host of the party then looks at two coats. How does he ask you and your
friend are they your coats?
Instructor: Now imagine that you are at the lavandera (laundry mat). Listen and
repeat the word pillow case.

Instructor: Now imagine that a woman next to you wants to remove a pillow case from
on top of a secadora (dryer). Speaking informally, how does she ask you Is it your
pillow case?
Mara: Es tuya?
Instructor: Now imagine that you are still at the lavandera (laundry mat). The same
woman now wants to remove some sheets from on top of a secadora (dryer).
Instructor: How does she ask you Are they your sheets?

Instructor: The same woman now picks up a coat from on top of a secadora.

Instructor: Cmo se dice Its mine?
Instructor: If talking about only one cat how do you say It is not mine.?
Instructor: And if talking about more than one cat, how do you say theyre mine?
