The purpose of this lesson is to get students to start thinking critically, and to make predictions on the story
based on a few sentences and an illustration. Students will use their predictions and visualise them through
their own drawings.

Learning experiences Time: 20min

Introduction: 10 minutes
Today I have a mystery book for us to go through together. If you have read this book and
you know what is going to happen, I need you to be a secret squirrel and not tell anyone
else what happens.

Sequence of learning experiences:

Read students the first page of the book and show them the illustration. Pause to make
sure everyone can see.

You have 1 minutes to predict what is going to happen next with the people next to you and
write them down on a post it note.

Ba dada da dum To re-gain students attention

Ask the students if they would like to share any of their predictions

Continue to read the second page only.

I am going to give you another post it note, you are to write another prediction of what might
happen next on the post it note.

Get the timer on their tv for 2 minutes.

When I start this timer you will have two minutes to walk and mingle around the classroom
and discuss your predictions. When the timer goes off, you all need to be sitting quietly at
your desks for our next task. Of you go!

(While the students are mingling, hand out blank paper for students to draw on for their next
activity.)

What you will be doing with this piece of paper is drawing your prediction. So have a look at
what you have written down on your post it note, now you are going to draw a picture of
what you have written on the blank paper in front of you.

25-30min
Students to draw their prediction, using the materials they have with them.
Lesson conclusion: 5-10
Gather students back on the mat, to finish the story.

Ask students if their predictions were right or wrong

Lesson Evaluation:
(Reflect on the lesson. What worked? What did not work? What would you change? Why? Only complete this section if you actually taught the
lesson)
