Summative Assessment Newspaper Contribution and Art Piece for Gala

Throughout this inquiry project, students will be working with a local journalist on the creation of at
least two pieces of written work to be included in the classroom newspaper that answer the question,
What ecological and societal changes are caused by forest fires? They can choose the format of the
works: editorials, news reporting, interviews, fictional stories, or others as applicable.
Students will also create an art piece to be displayed at the gala which portrays an important aspect of
the inquiry project and is personally relevant to them as they reflect on the ecological and societal
changes caused by forest fires. There is no restriction on what can be made, but some examples include
drawings, compositions, paintings, dioramas, a cartoon, etc.
