The E-Val Flex Thermal Validation cable system is designed for validation applications that
require compliance with FDA guidelines and international GMP standards. The ValSuite software
keeps a complete database on all aspects of validation requirementstracking thermocouples,
calibration reports, test setup, data analysis, specific user access, and final compliance reports.
The E-Val Flex Modules can be used in any combination of Master and expansion modules, but
there must always be a Master in the configuration. When using more than one E-Val Flex
module, an Ethernet switch or hub is needed. If only one E-Val Flex module is being used, the
module can be directly connected to the computer Ethernet port with a crossover cable or
alternatively via USB using the USB/LAN adaptor.
Master Module:
4, 8 or 16 Channel modules
8 MB Memory
Stainless Steel 316
1 second to 24 hours sample rate
Weight: 1.9 kg
Less than 5 Watts in power consumption
LAN port
RS485 Port

4.2.1 Handling
The E-Val Flex module needs to be placed in a way that ensures no water and moisture
penetrate into the cables and further on into the E-Val Flex box. This is ensured by using
the support stand. The construction of the support stand allows good visibility of the
display and easy connection of the cables. The support stand is mounted on the back of the
E-Val Flex module.
Successful Install:
1. Module Configuration

and 0<Y<255
1. Move the cursor down to the right corner of the screen and select settings.
8. Choose Obtain an IP Address Automatically and click OK. For the Manual IP option,
choose Use the Following IP Address and enter the IP address assigned to the module
plus one. Example: If the module has an IP address of 192.168.1.50 then input
192.168.1.51. Input subnet mask address of 255.255.255.0 (if it does not automatically
default). Select OK.
Note: The PC must have a different IP address to any of the E-Val Flex modules.
2. The E-Val Flex Hardware Settings window opens. Enter the IP address of the E-Val Flex
module and click Add.

Clicking the left arrow activates the Set Marker option. Use the
up and down arrows to find the correct text and choose it by
clicking the enter button. There are four predefined markers
present but it is possible to custom define up to ten text
markers. This will be displayed on the graph. The Time Marker
names can be edited in the ValSuite software. Refer to the
software manual for instructions.
Right arrow:
No current functionality.
Display Process:
Move the cursor to the Dis. Process line and click Enter. Chose either Yes, No, or Smart
using the up and down arrows. Click Enter to accept the new setting. Yes means that a
process information line is present in the display. No means that it is not present. Smart
means that the process line is present if there is relevant information available. (default
is Smart)
Low/High:
Move the cursor to the D. Low/High line and click the Enter button. Chose either No,
Temp, F Val, or toggle using the up and down arrows. Click Enter to accept the new
setting. No means that no low/high information line is present in the display. Temp.
means that a temperature low/high line is present in the display. Toggle means that the
module scrolls and shows either a low/high F value or a low/high temperature value in
the display. The channel with the low value is marked with < and the channel with the
high value is marked with >. (default is No)
Press. Unit:
Move the cursor to the Press. Unit line and click the Enter button. The function can be
adjusted to mbar, psi, hPa, or kPa. The E-Val Flex module display will reflect the choice.
(default is mbar)
Length:
Move the cursor to the Length Unit line and click the Enter button. The function can be
adjusted to mm or inch. The E-Val Flex module display will reflect the choice. (default is
mm)
2. In the E-Val Flex Hardware Settings window, right click on the appropriate E-Val Flex
module and select Edit.
3. The sample rate can be adjusted and click OK. The module can now be disconnected
from PC and is now ready to be used as a stand-alone unit.
4. Use the following steps to start data collection on module:
Press Enter button on module
Select Start/Stop. Press Enter.
Select Erase/Start. Press Enter.
Select Erase/Start again. Press Enter.
5. Use the following steps to restart data collection on the module:

10. Disconnect all sensors from the E-Val Flex module and click OK.
5.7 Troubleshooting
2. Type CMD in the field and cmd.exe window appears. See below.
The E-Val Flex Master Module allow connection of 4-16 temperature probes as well as digital
pressure, rotation or deflection sensors via RS485 interface.
The E-Val Flex expansion module offers 4-16 temperature probes.
The E-Val Flex modules are designed for Ellab premium grade type T, 7 strand thermocouples.
The Ellab thermocouples are equipped with an electronic ID which eases the identification of the
thermocouples.
The standard ss* probes are supplied with threads that fit into packing glands which form a no-
leaking seal into packages or cans. See section about Accessories.

Connect the pressure sensor RS485 connector to the E-Val Flex RS485 port (always connect
all cables before adding the main power).
The ValSuite software will automatically configure the E-Val Flex module.
The data session with pressure sensor may look like the example below.
Warning: Do not try to clean the pressure sensor in other ways than with rinsing water, as
this will damage the sensor.
The picture below shows how temperature, rotation and deflection are connected to the
slipring contact and the E-Val Flex module.

DEFLECTION SYSTEM
B. The container is fixed with a stainless steel plate, and the holding device is
fastened with four screws, so it will not move around during processing.
C. The SHD stainless steel support (2) is positioned on top of the holding device so
that the clamp (3) is positioned at the measuring point wanted, and then fastened
with four screws.
For plastic trays, holding devices are available with up to three measuring points
(top, bottom and side) for establishing the most optimal process parameters.
D. The LVDT deflection transducer (4) is then introduced into the autoclave chamber
and positioned in the SHD stainless steel support tray, and the complete device is
positioned at the spot wanted. Normally the unit is placed in retort/autoclave with
a typical load. The position need to be stable during the process to avoid false
results. The transducer need to be able to move up and down. Normally the
maximum value on how much the packing will expand during the process is
important.
E. The LVDT deflection transducer cable is then connected to a D-Flex module (5)
which again is connected to the RS485 port at the E-Val Flex master module.
Switch off power on E-Val flex module, connect the multibox to E-Val flex box, and
connect all equipment that requires the RS485 connection.
Turn power on again. Verify that the parameters are presented in the display.
H. The E-Val Flex Quick Start box opens. Mark start automatically, select module(s)
and select OK.
J. Select the D-Flex module channel under the session name. Right click on mouse.
The D-Flex menu will appear.
K. Verify that the D-flex transducer and clamp are still placed in the correct position.
L. Select Adjust Zero Offset and the D-flex module will zero out.
R. When process has ended select E-Val Flex, select Stop in ValSuite program.
NOTE: The water reservoir and the probes should not be exposed to direct sunlight.
6.4.1 Installation:
1. Place the Fixture and the two probes for the Dry/Wet application in a well-ventilated
location, where the wind flow is 2.4 m/s.
2. Do not place the fixture near sources of heat or vapor.
3. Locate the Fixture approximately 1.2 to 2 meter above the ground.
3. Start the E-Val Flex module in ValSuite. See ValSuite manual for more information.
