steel profiles, one end of the beam must be free to move horizontally when the rod
length change due to temperature changes.

b. Dial gauges should have the ability to at least 75 mm and the blocks anchoring should
be provided sufficient to cope with the maximum movement. Gauges must have an
accuracy of 12:25 mm. A smooth surface should be prepared perpendicular to gauge.
Scale readout to measure shifting should be read to 0.25 mm.

c. All gauges, scales and reference points should be given a reference number that is
clear to help recording the data closely. Arrange all the gauges, scales or reference
point so as to prevent relative movement of the supporting system during the test.

d. At least two pieces of dial gauges should be installed to monitor the movement of the
horizontal. Both dial gauges should be placed perpendicular to one another.

e. A separate measurement system using a measuring ruler, mirrors and fine wire according to
ASTM D 3966-90 should be held. Arrange a measuring ruler and a mirror on the top end of
the pile trial or on a stand that is arranged on the side of the pile tests on the line where

the load is given by the scale along the lines of a given load. Stretch of strings piano
wire or similar, perpendicular to the direction transverse forces via a measuring ruler.

Place the wire is not more than 25 mm from the face of the crossbar on the stand
mounted measuring and equipped to stretch the wire during the trial when there is an
interruption to the wire will return its original position. If the gauge bar and wire are
placed on opposite sides of the place where the force is applied, provide a sufficient
distance between the piles and wires to anticipate the lateral movement.

3. Overall testal equipment must be protected from change / variation of temperature changes.

d) Procedures Test

Load test done in 6 (six) cycle in accordance with ASTM D 1143-81 for vertical loading test and
four (4) cycles per ASTM D 3966-81 to test lateral loading, including the "cut-off-level", calibration,
manometer and extension meter and so forth. "Test Set-Up" for the test load pile by way of
"Kentledge" for the vertical load test and "Weighted Platform" for the lateral load test.

e) Procedure Readings
1. Vertical Load Test
Readings performed as follows:
- Before and after addition of load
- Before and after decreasing load
- Every 10 minutes
- At 300% load design, the reading is done as follows:
- Every 10 minutes during the first 2 hours

- Then every half hour for 10 hours

- Furthermore, every 1 hour.
- At the end loading (0% load design), the reading is done as follows:
- Every 1 hour for the first 4 hours
- Every 2 hours thereafter up to 8 hours
- Then every 4 hours.
2. Lateral Load Test
Readings performed as follows:
- Before and after the addition of load
- Before and after decreasing load
- Every 5 minutes
- At 200% load loading plan, readings were taken every 10 minutes.

f) Report of the results of the experiment loading

Reports of test must include of the following things:

1. The location and identification of project

2. The soil data and data processing pile for trial
3. All calibration certificates of equipment for test.

4. Data readings include: trial date, time reading, trial, loading, dial gauge readings and so on.

5. Curve relationship between: load - decrease; load-time; time - a decrease.

6. Conclusions from the trial.

g) Failure of Pile.

A pile or pile group shall be deemed to have failed the load test if at least four of the
following eight criteria are not satisfy:
The load at which settlement continues to increase without any further increase of load.
The load causing a gross settlement of 10% of the least pile width.

The load beyond which there is an increase in gross settlement disproportionate to the
increase of load.

The load beyond which there is an increase in net settlement disproportionate to the
increase of load.
The load that produces a plastic yielding or net settlement of 20mm.

The load indicated by the intersection of tangent lines drawn through the initial, flatter
portion of the gross settlement curve and the steeper portion of the same curve.
The load at which the slope of the net settlement is equal to 0.25mm per 10 kN of test load.

One - half of the load at which, when maintained for 24 hours, the net settlement after the
removal of the load does not exceed 0.25mm per 10 kN of test load.

Any pile or pile group which fails under the above stated conditions shall be replaced at
Contractor's cost by one or more piles to be installed as directed by the Engineer. If, in the
opinion of the Engineer, it is impractical or inadvisable to install substitute piles in place of a
failed pile, the Contractor shall submit proposals to rectify the defect. The proposals are
subject to the approval of the Engineer.

In addition, the Contractor shall at his expense carry out 1 more tests with a total test load
not exceeding 1.5 times the test load of the failed test. The piles for these tests shall be
selected by the Engineer.

h) Abandonment of Pile Test.

The load test shall be deemed to have failed if any of the following observations is reached:
The test cannot be completed due to instability of the Kent ledge.
Pre-loading before the commencement of the test.
Failure of the pile cap.
Improper setting of datum.
Disturbed or unstable bench marks or scales.

The scales and/or measuring instruments used are found to be defective or have been
tampered with.
Faulty gauges.

For any load test abandoned under the above stated conditions, the Contractor shall at his
expense carry out one more test with a total test load not exceeding 1.5 times (compression
tests) the test load of the failed test.
The piles for these tests shall be selected by the Engineer.

6. Measurement and Report.

a) The Contractor shall make all observations and take measurement under the presence of
the Engineer.

b) The Contractor shall submit a complete set of reports, which will include a graph of
load/time/settlement and a bearing capacity of piles.

7. Clearing.

After completion of the tests, the Contractor shall remove all preliminary pile tested, framing,
bracing and other temporary facilities for the tests unless otherwise permitted by the Engineer.
